I noticed the footsteps, like i said, great detail. How long did it take you to make that mud?

it was actually just acrylic paint with baking soda mixed in for shape.

Ohhhh.... i see what you're saying. That's just where the mud was pushed forward by the wing. It's not splashing, although it does kinda look like it is Big Smile [:D]

btw... anybody notice the pilot's muddy footsteps? :)

Brandon: go to the first page, and check out the 4th picture. If you notice, where the wing is, theres a huge splash of mud flying in the air. Now, im guessing that it would take atleast 35 seconds from the time the plane stops moving, for the guy to get out, and walk on over, the splash of mud probaly only takes about 2 seconds for it to go into the air, and come back down, but in the model, its still up there.

Now do you know what im saying? lol. but the model looks absaloutly amazing, and so does the mud and everything, i was just pointing that out.

brandonp51,

I just got a new book the other day that has several pictures of German aircraft that have made crash landings, these pictures would be of interest to you and give you more information on the sort of damage a Bf 109 or Fw 190 would sustain in a belly landing.
The title of the book is ''Bodenplatte, The Luftwaffe's Last Hope'' and for anybody doing, or thinking of doing a diorama that has an aircraft in it that made a forced landing this book would be VERY useful.

Excellent work otherwise.

Great looking dio.
If anything, as others have mentioned, I think that 109 should be sunk in much deeper into the groundwork. Might be a little difficult to do now that the work is done, but keep it in mind next time. Also, your landing gear is intact, and generally speaking, I'm fairly certain that in a crash, the lowered landing gear is the first thing to go, and is usually found a fair distance from the main crash site.

Nice diorama, but just a word of criticism:

Isn't the glade air freshener out of scale???????

And is it historically accurate????

Great lookin dio man keep it up

I'd fill that space with something other than a vehicle. With the P-51 cruising around like that, a Kubelwagen would be more appropriately called a Kubel-target.

My next one involves the blue angels (you can see one of them in one of the pictures) and that's all i can say right now. Don't want to spoil the surprise ;). it's a work in progress though.

Nice first effort!

As others have mentioned, perhaps the 109 should be sunk into the earth a bit more.

Looks well. I also thing your 109 ( if that an f or a Gustav?) sits a bit high. Its really noticable in your side pics. I would like a pic zoomed out so we can see the whole thing in one shot if ya dont mind. I love the stang bro and that a good looking one.

well, this was actually an art project. hehe. I had built model aircraft for years and then i decided to try a dio. My Advanced 3D art teacher let me go for it...

and about the landing gear... the right strut is extended but the left one is folded under the wing so you can't really see it. I'll take a pic of the underside if you guys want to see it.

thanks for all the positive feedback. Big Smile [:D]

Great job on your first dio, brandon.

I like how you suspended the P-51...shows good action.
Are the landing gear on the 109 partially retracted?

pretty nice for a first try. keep it up. One question: how come the 109 is kinda perched up on the mud?Confused [%-)] is a part of plane holding it up? I'd think that the plane would have settled a bit more into the soft earth. But I don't know. neways cool dio!Thumbs Up [tup]

And the one comment is that there seems to be alot of "dead space", or space where there is just nothing there. Something you can do is just put a bush or rock or debris there to fill it in. The muddy patches help, but it is not enough. That's just me being nitpicky though. Looks great!

well, to fill that dead space, i did have a 1:48 scale tamiya kubelwagen ordered so i could have a german soldier or officer coming to pick up the downed pilot, but the website i ordered it from obviously didn't have their sh*t together, so that's the reason for the void in the middle.

Oh, and as far as mounting the mustang, i just went to the hobby shop and bought a fairly skinny plexiglass rod (they may come in packs of many, depending on what kind you get). The rod goes from the bottom of the base to the underside of the p-51.
