Tiny Diorama GB Oct. 1-Mar. 1

Hi Sawdeanz!

Regarding the painting.

First I applied a base coat (desert yellow) with Acrylic paint. (I use Humbrol Acrylics, but I think they are pretty much the same as Vallejo Paint.) Then I made a “wash” of heavy diluted oil paint, that was darker than the base coat. I think I used a mix of Raw Sienna and Ochre for these figures. When applied it will automatically “sink into” the deeper areas of the figure and creating what looks as shadows on the uniform. After that, I dry brushed the figures with the base coat color, then with a lighter shade of the same color. After that it was just to paint the other areas, such as the weapon, belt and face.

I can really recommend the washing-dry brushing technique. It’s easy to learn, fast and gives great effect.

A agree with Stukabomb88 - this has been a dead place for quite a while. I havn't been too active myself. (Actually I forgot that I joined the groupbuild. I was finished with the dio a long time ago, and thought that I would wait until March 1st. Than I forgot all about it.) Well, it's a bit late, but here is the dio. I call it "The signal detachments last stand". It's in 1/72 and is set in the North African desert during WW2. Enjoy!

Stukabomb88: I really like the fighting that goes on in Stalingrad! Especially the industrial ruins with the piping system looks great! To bad there ain't figures in that scale, otherwise it would have looked even better if there were some russians hiding in the ruins or some german panzer grenadiers backing up the panzers.

wow...  thanks for the reply duckman... but I've been coming back to this site a few times, and it's been prettymuch un-changed everytime I look at it.  I have little to no time anymore to be on this forum.  I feel like leaving this groupbuild open as uncompleted until some of the other people decide to even look at it again.  With my job, and being away lots, it takes time to look at this site.  I wish others would take the time to even update their progress.  With this said, I will check up again, in a week or so, and if still no response from anyone, I will abandon finescale.com.  I just don't have the time anymore, just like those of you don't have the dedication to even read what I write, and write back.

I have not been doing any work and I mean at all on my dio since the last time I posted pictures, I have been doing comminsion builds for paintball guns http://www.freewebs.com/saratoga-paintball/newsupdates.htm I basically started to think of other stuff to do and im an avid paintballer and course owner so i started doing this and im having alot of fun with it!

when ever i can ill try to get back into the habbit of building again but im not sure about right now.

but your dio looks pretty sweet and hopefully every one else will have some pictures soon!

By the looks of things, not much has happened lately?  Where is everyone??  With the Ending date approaching, I hope you all are near completion.

To give an update on my progress,  I am Done!!

This is Stalingrad, in 1/144.   

I still have to add wooden trim around the edges, and do a few touch ups. But, here it is!!

Hello all!

I finally got a few days off from my work!  It's hard to build when you only have a half hour of free time at home each day...

It's good to see that everyone is still working away at their projects.  My stalingrad dio is running smoothly.  I eliminated the railway design, and added a large smokestack to the chemical factory, as well as some structural to the inside.  I have some plaster and putty curing right now, which is being used for the mound of rubble the numerous vehicles have pounded into a road.  Power lines are also being added, and soon I will be adding tonnes of rubble!!!

Aric, how goes the badge??  I haven't heard anything in a while.

Duckman, Great job on the Dio!  One thing I would add though would be some mudd and rutt marks on the runway where the tanks are rolling across.  A tank's tracks are capable of destroying tarmack, which means even with clean tracks, there would still be large marks and sometimes, imprints where they have been.  Other than that, great job on the additions, and I really love the weathering on the runway!

Sawdeanz, if you would like to be included into our Group Build, feel welcome!  If you like, I'll add you to the list.  By the sounds of it, you are about as far as most of us anyway.

Spinneyhead, that would make a great dio!!  Probably the only one where you could get away with modern, American troops, and a Mark 1 tank!!

Once again i have changed my dio,first it was stalingrad then markit garden.I have just order a german half track,2 sets of revell german 105 artilary and a 30" hedge row now what i plain to do is make a dio of d-day with a battery of german 105's as seen in the band of brothers movie, hiding in the heage row will be an American 101st 30 cal machine gun crew and a few rifle men about to open fire on one of the guns. Sweeeeeeeeet cant wait.

I'd thought i'd post some updated pics seeing as the diorama section is moving very very slow compared to the aircraft section! so basically i added 3 tanks and i also added an Fw-190 D9 because i read at this specific airbase they flew 190's before switching to He-162's!

Anyway, I've had no time at all to work on my Stalingrad Dio because, well,  I wake up at 4am, go to work, and am currently getting home at 9pm (joy.)  Please bear with me and my slow response time. (at least the money's coming in!!)  This job won't last too long.

well not a whole lot i think im gonna add a colum of tanks to my dio but i cant think of much else to i need to be inspired (liore451's Abandonned hangar, somewhere in France after WWII ) will do it so i hope to be done it before i leave for Basic Training!

I have decided to change my plans, i was going to make a stalingrad dio but i have decided to make a operation market garden dio set in Nunen.I have made the base for the dio so far and last night i started to make the house's,whats every one up to with there dio's?.
