Wondering if the build is still open. And if it is I'd like to join, Im building a Revell-Monogram 1/48 visible B-17G. the build is started only the radio room and half of the cockpit are painted and together...the build is coming slow due to I'm trying to and detail..

does anyone know where i can find 50cal ammo in 1/48 scale.

Feel free to join in man, this group build is technically unofficial, and never ends. So join in! Dont feel bad about the slow production times, my 2 forts are both coming up on the 3 year mark and they are still not done.

Eduard  makes really nice photo etch 50cal. sets.  There are two sets I think.  One is unpainted and has 50cal. ammo plus ammo chutes.  I recommend a photo etch bending tool to form the chutes.  The Small Shop makes very nice selection of bending tools.  Being a machinist my self I can assure you their product  is of high quality and will last you a life time.  I bought  the small square one for around $40.00 and it is worth it if you are going to start using photo etch.  Now back to the other ammo set.  The other set is pad printed and has very high detail in the print .  The shells are brass with copper metal jackets and color coded tips of AP and API rounds.  Just google Eduard photo etch and you should be directed to their site.  DO NOT look at the other photo etch stuff for the B-17 with out hiding all major credit cards first.  Other sites you are not allowed to look at  quickboost.net  for engines and gun barrels  or aries for browning 50 cal. waist guns.  I hope this helps. : )

Yes, feel free to join!!  Love to have more B-17 builders! Toast

Since you have the visible version, you might want to look at the Eduard cockpit, nose, mid, and rear detail sets.  They include the 50 cal ammo and belts for each section, plus the end result looks really great through the clear fuselodge.

Here's a website that has all accessories for the 1/48 B-17, some are OOP but a vast majority are still very much in production.

Post lots of pics of your WIP!

An alternative to the photo-etch ammo feed-chutes... Plastic zip-ties are pretty close and a LOT cheaper, lol..

Here's Tiny's zip-tie feed chute for the waist....

I used the same thing on mine, even though I had some PE chutes from the Pro Modeler B-17G, "Bit o' Lace"... Saving them for another project, namely the tail guns on the pair of Monogram B-26 Marauders I'm doing, Monogram PBY-5A waist blisters, and a Monogram P-47 Ammo bay.

With all this B-17 traffic, I decided to jump back on mine.  I still don't know how I'm going to proceed, but I will figure it out as I go.  The last time I looked at her, this is what she looked like.

What a great looking B-17, Lancair! YesYes

Like what Lancair said, with all this B-17 traffic I might have to get my D version going ahead of schedule.

Done with this one! For a kit that is actually a year older than me (this is an actual 1975 issue kit), it came together to be a pretty nice model. This is by no means without its flaws, but I am pretty happy with how it came out. I attached some cool pics of the real "Our Gal Sal" followed by my finished model. Sorry for all the pics....

Damn fine work redman. Love the battle damage!

And dont ever apologize for pics, apologize for not enough pics. Especially in this thread.

The pics of the real ship could make a good for study on paint fading. You can follow the time frame of the fade based off the bomb tally.

Redman71 Ditto what Krow113 said !!!

A stunning build and I think a show stopper too Toast I especially like the weathering and battle damage, those exhaust stains are dead on too.

Randy So many to build.......So little time

There's an EXCELLENT painting I saw once that that bird would fit right into... "Square D's at Farmingham" was the title IIRC.. I'll see if I can locate it..

Love the diorama.

It took some time, but was able to build the bomb bay and get painted.  Detailing is next with cables, pullies, electric motors for bomb bay doors, wiring, emergency gear crank, and weathering.

Redman ... your 17 is looking outstanding! I really like the paint chipping on the cowls and wings. Care to explain your method?
