Pj's thunderbolt

Did he ever post a finished picture of the plane somewhere or did I miss something.

Nope, doesn't look like it, sadly.

Geez, another resurrected thread! I didn't see the date two posts previous to mine. Would be interesting to see the finished model.

Seems to be a number of resurrected threads lately..............very nice work on that old kit.
I especially like the "gizmology" as Hans liked to say........
Makes me want to build old Revell kits..................... Hans would be pleased at that.Wink

Wow, it really is shaping up nicely!

So, are you going to sculpt a little 1/32 John Belushi for the cockpit, a la "1941"?  Big Smile [:D]

(Actually, the kit pilot figure is about the right build for the Belushi of the time.)

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

This is a really nice build. I like how you addressed the rear wheel and the making of the tigers mouth. I look forward to seeing the rest of the build.

Doog - I doubt this would of helped you any on your Stuka. I use Model Master Enamels , I am too old and set in my ways to venture over into Acrylics. Whistling [:-^] From what little I have used the Tamiya tape it seems to be one of the lowest tacky surfaces. The Shark mouth was masked with Tamiya as it curves easily. Main reason I use the Blue tape is it covers a large area very cheaply on the wallet.  I have Disasters also - mine are usually overspray though... You have whipped that Stuka back in shape I see - Outstanding job on the Camo Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank, Aaron , Dave - Thanks for the comments and follwing the progress Smile [:)] Aaron I had a few pictures in books to Guestamate the other side. Curtis was supposed to have used templates at the factory. Either they somewhat different patterns, or Field Repair painting had been done as Not Many of them were Cookie Cutter Matches.

OUTSTANDING, MAN!!

Boy, I wish I saw this result before masking my Stuka! I had a minor disaster over there if you didn't catch it. Damned Tamiya masking tape!

Doog - Thanks for looking and commenting. Great to see you looking up out of the Dirt and into the sky !

Well I know I was suppose to show the New Guns being made out of Hypo. needles.  I have decided not to show how I cut them as I think there must be a Better and Safer Method.  However I strongly Suggest to anyone attempting to cut the Needles  to Wear Safety Glasses.

Introducing the New Guns.

Photobucket

They do stick out farther then they molded on kit guns, but I wanted them to draw attention and not blend in

Photobucket

After filling all the Maverick Seams It is time for some color.

This is the Paint Scheme that caught my attention for this build.

Markings

Tamiya Tape and Blue Painters tape form the Hardware store was used to do the masking.PhotobucketLather -Rinse- Repeat Laugh [(-D] ~translation = Paint- Mask-Paint

Photobucket

Following several refrences for the Camo Markings, I would place several pieces of tape on the fuselage and sketch out the pattern. Then I would remove the tape and cut out the design with Tamiya Decal Scissors, place the cutout design back on the aircraft and repeat the process with more tape.

Getting close

The results after hours of masking.

Still need to touch up the lips on the mouth in places.Photobucket

Well there are a lot worse things to take the blame for! I'd say that Shark Mouth looks better than the decal!  Amazing work!  Very tough to do!  I don't think I'd be able to match up both sides without going crazy!

Steven -  You are correct on the airbrushing.  I first painted the white background. I printed an old Revell decal for a sudo pattern. Using the printoff I used Frisket Film to make a stencil of the teeth. I took the paper pattern and with a pencil outlined on the Fuselage where it should go.

Photobucket

Using the pencil line for a guide I then applied the "tooth stencil" and with a q-tip I  rubbed over  the teeth to set them. I colored the film blue to show up for the pic.

Photobucket

Next I painted enough red to cover the tounge area.

Photobucket

After the red was sprayed and ample drying times of course I used another piece of Frisket Film in the shape of the tounge to overlay the red .

Photobucket

Photobucket

All that was not left masked off was what would be the blue area.  So I painted that last as it was dark enough to cover any red that was not wanted.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I made the lips by splicing some 1/4" Tamiya tape and following the bottom of the tooth line for an Inner Lip. Then went back taping about an 1/8" away from that tape to make the outside lip. I will still need to go back and make mask off the small areas with some Tamiya Tape in the rear of the mouth and touch up with the red and blue. Once all this is done I will seal it and mask over the whole thing so I can paint the body colors.
