Hi Chris - Thanks for the accolades! As for the semi-circle that credit goes to the decal made by Eagle Strike.

Tony - Again thanks for the kind words. Will post my next F-4 when I start.

Berny - Appreciate your comments especially since you had your hand on some this build!

Julez - Thanks for "Thumbs Up"

That is one phantastic Phantom!!!!

Great work on the paint job, I could stare at it for hours.  Such a refreshing change from the normal SEA and Navy/Marine shemes (not that there's anything wrong with them).

Ditto  Nice job.

How did you mask the semi-circle section under the fuselage?  I always have so much trouble masking curves, that i just avoid them at all costs.

Any tips on how to get a nice curved mask would be greatly appreciated Wink

I am calling this one done. Being my first Phantom I am now hooked!

Matter of fact I bought a Monongram Black Bunny kit on E-Bay and when that arrives I will start on it.

Thanks to all of you who provided input and technical answers.

Why is it so wrinkly? Oh boy, that inspires confidence!(No offense to your wife)

Well, she's sure dressed to impress now. And that actually looks like a lot of fun. Scary. But fun. Keep up the good work.

Dirk,

Thanks for the "WOW"! Motivation is a good thing!

Tony,

It was scary. Especially after my wife who usually doesn't take that much of an  interest even said, "why is it so wrinkly?"

Here is todays update:

Following is an update on this build. As mentioned earlier the 2 challenges that I foresaw where the colors and the "Large" Eagle Strike decal for the underside of the this aircraft.

The color issue was solved by scalefinishes.com. Once I laid the paint down my confidence grew.

After careful thought on how to place this decal because the auxiliary doors where in the open position and you only get one shot, I think it turned out An over abundance of Micro Sol also help.

                   IMG_4312.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

Now onto the upper fuslage decals.

Comments, suggestions, thoughts welcome.

Its been a few weeks since my last post were I was going to paint.

Unfortunately my feeble attempt at mixing the colors failed so I contacted ScaleFinishes.com, Jameston Kroon to see if he could.

He did and I well am pleased with the results.

Guten Morgen,

Following are 3 photos of where I am with this build. 1 is the real aircraft I am building the other 2 are 1 primed and 2/3 where I have laid the Flat White down.

I was trying to find the official RAL colors used for this aircraft and I even emailed Bundeswehr and did receive an e-mail from a Sergeant Major telling me that, "There are no documents available concerning the former aircraft."

            12258131361.jpg picture by xlt2002ms

With that said, I have decided to use Tamiya's Flat White, Flat Red and Blue thinned with white to come close.

Here its primed:

Here it is with the Flat White:

Next up is the Flat Blue.

Until then thanks for looking!

When I initially bought this kit it was because I wanted to build a Phantom. Since that time I have learned quite a bit from GOOGLE and here on FSM from former posts and replies.

So far this Revell kit has given me no problems and it has been a delight to assemble. After doing a search for decals I have selected Eagle Strikes, West German Bundesluftwaffe commemorating the 35th anniversary of JG 72 with the galloping white horse.

However I am hoping someone can help me with the "RED' and "BLUE" colors. Eagle strike says that these where nonmilitary colors and I buy that.

Following are two links of this aircraft along with my photo. They look "FLAT". Can anyone share a color match?

Yeah you can use that scheme on your F-4F.

Mikeym_us,

OK. Staying with the German aircraft can I use this scheme and decals?

Mikeym_us,

It is this Revell Kit 04522, http://www.tstrains.com/catalog/DSCN6481.JPG. It says that it will build an F-4F for the German AF, "35 Jahre JG74 Molders.

I wanted to do a USAF camo theme with AM decals but like I said, I do not have the information/pictures to find the decals that would make an "F" so I decided to build OB.

I'm afraid there are no American F-4F's only LuftWaffe F-4F's the F-4F was the export model of the F-4E hence the nose gun. So basically it is the same as a E model on the outside the only difference would have been the cockpit.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6
