WOW! the CP looks great fermis. I have a question, how in the world did you mask the spinners.Indifferent I could never do that.Big Smile

Thanks guys!!!!   Once I get this project finished, I'll put up another little toot on the spinners. It's not really hard,,,,but it's a PITA!!!!!

Manny, when SHE'S done, I'll let you marry her!!!!Stick out tongue

As of right now, she's waiting for paint, but I'm gonna do a trial run on an old 410 testbed tonight, If all goes well, I'll be painting the real deal this weekend. Got band practice tomorrow then going to Megadeth, Slayer, Testament on thursday..........YEAH!!!!!

Man, this is awesome to watch.  Not only the speed at which you post progress pics, but the overall quality of the build.  I am extremely envious!  Great stuff fermis, love the attention to the details.

Another little update.

Gun sights and grab handles attached.

001-6.jpg picture by fermisb

Internal framing painted.

003-4.jpg

And in place on the plane.

007-2.jpg

Both ends of the telescopic sight were drilled out and filled with clear glue for "glass".

001-6.jpg picture by fermisb

All was going well with the spinner pinwheel. I had to do a little touchup, ended up demolishing the rest of the decal, but the touchup spot was beautifulAngry

So, I stripped off the old decal and did some masking.

006-4.jpg picture by fermisb

Here's the result

001-8.jpg

And in place on my old 410.

I think they look the part!!!

Fuse is closed up, seams cleaned up and scribed for the centerline seam. Finished the rest of the pit. The gunners station got simple scratched sights and a couple wires.

Superb work fermis!  Love that cockpit, that is a stunning example of how they should look IMHO.  Well done!  I have been hesitant to post any more replies, after that cartoon man in a Speedo the last time I did! Dead LOL

LOL!!!   Don't be scared Frank!!!!  No matter what, there's one more for ya!!!! HEEHEE

Modelgeek, I use just a single layer, not folded. I also use tiny dabs of CA here and there. Sometimes, over time, the adhesive from the tape alone seems to wear off, and the tape will lift. I haven't had any problems with the ones that had a couple dabs of CA though.

Thanks again guys!!!Toast

model geek:

Ditto on the cockpit! Amazing detail. Can you share your method for making masking tape belts. I've done it but it doesn't come anywhere near as good as yours looks.

These ones here are PE, but you can check out page 6 in the link, about half way down for some scratched belts and buckles.

/forums/t/128955.aspx?PageIndex=6

Thanks for the link Fermis. One other question, do you fold the masking tape over on itself? I tried that and the tape seemed a little too stiff. So I've used it with the adhesive side applied right on the seat.

Thanks in advance for any hints.

Fermis, I'm not sure that "I can really do that", but it sounded good five minutes ago.  Great work.  Rick.

Hey, if I can do it....you can too!!!Toast

C'mon Doogs!!!  WIP it up. The worst that can happen is, you'll get some helpful advice. Plus, knowing that others are watching will help push you to take the extra step. It has worked wonders for my models. Now I have to replace all the ones I did before I joined up here, cause they just can't stand up next to what I can do now!!!

It's hard to put into words.  Chukw's work is meticulous with incredible attention to detail.  I think that most of us watch his threads in awe.  In my case I can take bits and pieces of his work and expand my skills.  But to duplicate the effort in the total project is out of the question for me.  That is where the good Dr. Fermis comes in.  I think what he does with a kit can be looked at as "Hey I could do that !"  But it still is at a level where I will have to grow and improve in all aspects of the hobby.  So, following these artists and the many other great contributors in this forum allows us all to grow with the hobby.  We give and we take and we share.

Dang this thing's looking like a beauty!

I'm tempted to do a WIP thread for my Dauntless, but totally intimidated by how great this and others look even at the early stages!

Got the main parts of the pit finished. The rest will be done prior to the canopy.

Started with kit parts and colored PE. Scratched a new "stick" from stretched sprue and a few other tiny bits and pieces.

001-4.jpg picture by fermisb

I also added some wiring to the instrument panel.

002-3.jpg

It got RLM 66 (MM enamel) followed by some drybrushing and a Raw Umber wash.

003-2.jpg

The seat pad is folded up and wrinkled masking tape.

004-1.jpg

All the instruments got a dab of clear glue to represent glass.

Here's the gunners pit. Just added a couple wires and aluminum foot rests.

Should have her closed up this evening!!!!

Thanks 38Toast

The spilled blood badge aint a bad idea, but I think everyone would have one, or at least be in line for WHEN it happens!!!  Just like drivers, there are those who have had a flat tire, and the rest just haven't had one YET!!!

Pics will be coming in a while...pit's almost done!!!
