Looks great, Chuck! Though I must say, on a quick glance, it looks like Hannah is showing off a new Corian countertop install, the opening looks like a sink. "Deutsche Welle praesentiert, "Dieses Alte Haus" "

Baron, you got me laughing with that one! As a matter of fact, our bathroom remodeling project should be all wrapped up as of today- knock on wood!bsyamato : Yes, I do all the sketches, too!Everybody: Many thanks! I've never done quite this much scratchbuilding in a cockpit before- what fun! A bit more to do, then paint and major assembly! Stay tuned-chuk
Cool work on the pressure hatch!

Once again a great build! And a great thread for everyone to learn from. Thanks for sharing your techniques!
Thanks, Finescalers! Kind of a quickie today- fighting crazy allergies!
Chuck,
Looking good...love seeing your updates

Great how-to on building a bulkhead full of gizmos! I like the description of how the rear turret operated.... So either a rear attack wasn't in much danger of being shot down, or rear gunners were spectacularly coordinated!
On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister
Thanks, Herc, VanceA bit more progress- show us, Hannah!
Damned great cockpit !!! i love too many details !

Insert "slow clap" here:
The wiring... solder??
The amount of detail you capture is amazing. As a side note I am sure that the middle seat would have been a tight fit. Man I can't even imagine sitting there.

uh?
Thank you for a such informative class !
I love the seats, Chuck, they are suitably worn and have such a great texture! And thank you for showing that it is possible to make wheels like that. I need to make some for some F4B-4s and Bf-109s in 1/48. I used to have the brake wheels from my old Tyco HO railroad cars, but I can't find them anymore. But you've shown that it can be done. Now, I just have to get a soldering pen....
Hercmech The amount of detail you capture is amazing. As a side note I am sure that the middle seat would have been a tight fit. Man I can't even imagine sitting there.
That is a tight fit, sort of like putting a bowling ball into a light socket. You'd need one very skinny man, so I wouldn't qualify. My's too big!
As for Pfennig, I just wish I were a wizard.
"Make me a wheel!" POOF! "Okay, Pfennig, you're a wheel!"
Hey, thanks, guys!
bsyamato, I draw the gals in photoshop on my Wacom cintiq 21 ux drawing tablet. Cheers!
Vance, the cables are .0010 solder, and the other skinny stuff is various iron and copper wire scrounged from here 'n' ther.
Hercmech, that center seat is on rails and slides to the right after the pilot sits down. Then the RIO comes in, slides the seat over and takes his place. Lastly, the Funker climbs in and they all go flying! I think the RIO/Bombardier would slide hi seat back to the right, open up the folding floor (not yet in my cockpit) and man the Lofte bombsight to work his mischief.
Baron, that wheel is the poster child for "This Kit needs a PE set!"
Again, guys- thanks! I hope to get some time in this holiday weekend- but duty calls from work, and it's my wife's birthday!
Cheers!
chuk
As usual, amazing work there!
Thanks, Buckeye!
I wish all my fellow Americans a safe and happy holiday weekend- and hope that you will join me in giving thanks to those who gave all in the service of our nation. Fritzi needs a break, too- let's check in on her progress...
Hey chuck, those sanding sticks are nice but try these if you dont have them:
A little set of metal files, the 2 skinny ones have all but replaced the plastic sanding sticks on my bench. they can be found at hobby lobby in the beading section for about $5.
Wow- those look perfect! I'll have to see if there's a Hobby Lobby in the area- and there's always on-line shopping. Do they carry beading sets as well- you know, those "rivet-makers?"
Cheers, B-17 Guy!
Something new for me- zenithal lighting! Show, 'em, Fritzi!
Great update
What you use to thin mr surfacer? i use commercial acrylic thinner.
chukw Something new for me- zenithal lighting! Show, 'em, Fritzi!
Uhh, rule 1: never argue with Fritzi, especially when she's onto something. Great results from the zenithal, kind of a forced-perspective shadow effect, I like it. I may have to give it a shot next time I'm thinking in 1/48, not sure it would show much at the smaller scales.
("zenithal"... sounds like the next great prescription... Discontinue using zenithal if you experience nausea, heartburn, dizziness or rivet-counting!)

I use automotive lacquer thinners. Curious to see what our Modeling Mr. Miyagi uses

Chuk,
With all the other detail tricks you have, and access to photoshop and such, I'm surprised you don't do photo-etch. Perhaps is a natural progression. When are you going to start that?
Thanks again for the update. I check this subforum for an update from Chuk to see what you're up to on your latest kit. The use of materials and tools gives me plenty of ideas. When I lost the anemometer for my 'Spirit of St. Louis' kit, I laughed when I caught myself thinking "What would Chuk do?" "WWCD"? :-D I'm about done with my scratchbuild of that part, and will soon finish the kit.
Thanks again!

tried with it but not worked. Probably was different base. Unfortunately the thinner that work with mr surfacer is high destructive for plastic and i use it carefully
