Just picked up the revell re-pop from the LHS yesterday. I won't be starting it immediately-some other kits are ahead of it on the bench. Not sure if I'll worry about the float or not. I hadn't seen the actual plastic in over 30 years and remember it as being molded in a brighter blue than in p38jl's issue. The stamp on the lower wing says "revell 1977", but that's apparently when they acquired the molds from monogram. The molds are actually 10 or 11 years older than that. There's a review of the kit in the June 1967 issue of Scale Modeller in which they called it the greatest injection molded kit of all time. My oh my have kits come a long way!

Thanks P38 for the info. Your build looks super!
plastickjunkie PJ Thanks for the headsup. I noticed on the LS site "new tooling". Are the resin parst pretty smooth or are they rough?

Installing the resin interior is not to bad,, the instructions are very vague and not well drawn, so test fit lots before glueing... the only other issue I had was a bonehead manuveur ,, REMEMBER to install the wing BEFORE closing the fuselage together. I got ahead of myself and glued the fuse together and forget to install the wing section first as the fuse sides slide over the wing.. U will have to notch the wing to fit the resin interior.
Other than that.. its not bad,, just pay attention.. and test fit...

I just may keep the original float since th resin one its just a bit wider, otherwise looks the same. I will get the cowl and interior. Did you have any problems sclosing up the fuse due to the interior resin parts? Thanks for posting the float.
p38jl I will post a pic later to show the dif.. but basicly the resin float is wider..

Thanks, that will be great!
plastickjunkie Great build and detailing job. I have this one in my stash, which has been recently re-released again and wanted to get the Lone Star sets. But what is the difference between the corrected float and the original kit's float? I can't see a difference from the few pictures I have seen. Don't know to get the float set too. Just watch Hobby Boss come out with a super detailed one for under $50.

Ahhh - I've used Squadron and Tamiya, never used the Testors - how do you like it? Tube-cutter: on my long-term list, especially if I start scratching more stuff. Xuron pliers - that's the pale blue right? Threw me off, mine are orange. Good ol' Maine-made product! The tubing I probably ID'd as more exacto knives. I think I did alright, but I wasn't looking for those seams that the ol' lizard found... rivet-counter!
On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister
20. a seam....not on the barrel...but still a seam....
21. fiddly bits galore...
I can't keep mine that cluttered, makes eating meals at the same table awkward.. "can you pass the salt? Oh, and the tamiya putty too please...."
You should have a scavenger hunt contest, see how many items people can ID. I see....

Now I've added the cowling with the motor. The wires thru the float have had brass pins soldered to them and them the pin pushed into the float and then epoxied to hold them. Also the antennae and pitot tube have been added.
You can just see the pins if you follow the 8" line up to the float. [View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]
Thanks for looking !
and... more last night.. opened up a hole thru the bottom of the cowl thru the float support and drilled two holes in the bottom of the float for the wires to exit.. Fed the wires from the bottom of the float thru the cowl.. then I will solder them to the motor.. the float ends will be soldered to pins that will protrude from the float for contacting the power. :550:0]

Pic of the motor mount I made...
