What do the tail markings represent?

According to "Wings Palette":

Unit: unknown
Serial: EI-238

Shokaku carrier, Pearl Harbor Attack, 7th December 1941.

http://wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/1027/pics/65_10.jpg

EDIT: although they also list this possibility:

EI-238 was flown by a hikotaicho. The crew were Lt.Cmdr. Kakuichi Takahashi (pilot) and Lt.Seizo Koizumi (radioman/gunner). Note the three red hikotaicho horizontal stripes and 'bitter orange' camo (on fuselage only).

"Bitter Orange"----Don't they know "Controversial Caramel" when they see it?

 Manstein's revenge:

So what was your verdict on the kit itself, Fermis?  Does the Helldiver offering look to be about the same in quality?

It's a decent kit, the only drawback is the canopy. To my eye, it looks narrow and undersize toward the rear (just to my eyeball.....I didn't break out a Gaston canopy measuring wand), with a pretty good size step at each segment. Otherwise, I'd call it great!

Haven't really broken into the Helldiver yet....canopy looks much better, but it is a different set up. I'm excited to tear into it! Got a rainday today, so I aint got $#!t to do!!!!

I'm confused - in your Ju88 thread, you said you do have $#!t to do....

I saw the connection as I torpedoed the harbor!Propeller

So, the wing-tips were folded when it went into a dive?  Did they act as spoilers or what?

For 72nd that kit has a lot of panel line detail and your pre-shading really made it pop!  Love the hand-painted markings---if you can pull em off they always look better than decals IMO...

Great job on the "controversial caramel" color as well...

Dito, dito, dito!!!!

All that scrathing is making me itch!

That is one great looking Val and fantastic scratch work as usual Toast. You figure that for what the price the kit is going for it wouldn't have the issues you mentioned.

Beautiful work again fermis. Wingtips-up is a good look, even if not completely folded over on themselves! Big Smile
