Not quite "Kermit the Forgfoot" but unusual nonetheless..  I call it "Dogbone Rorshach".

If that doesn't sound bad, I don't know what would.

I'm puzzled, confused, and intrigued all at the same time!

Well new styles we are not comfortable with usually take time to catch on Dre, also like I said before was there any filler required for your Frogfoot?

LOL, I'm not completely comfortable with the new camo.

There was a lot of filler used on the looooonnnnggggg seams on both nacelles and on the fuselage seams.   Some parts of the top fuselage seam had a valley that had to be filled and other sections had a nasty little step that had to fixed.   Mind you, this kit has close to 1 meter of seams to work on.

It wasn't so much gaps to fill as the parts fit really well but uneven surfaces at the join lines.

I made a mixture of Squadron Green and White putties diluted with Testor's liquid cement to make a slurry that I used to fill the majority of easy seams and then used a stronger putty mix to fill the valley.   Lots of wet sanding and polishing was done to fix the issues.

If you get one of these, I'd strongly suggest that you build the nacelles completely before attaching them to the fuselage halfs and then close the fuselage and then add the wings.

Oh, also add a ton of weight to the nose because there's a lot of heavy plastic back in the tail section...

Ah thanks for the heads up Dre, it's a great looking plane, but not in the way a Su-27 or Rafale or Typhoon is but you know like an A-10 or Apache is, kinda ugly but awesome? Tricky o describe. Did you know that one of the A-10 prototypes looked very similar to the Frogfoot?

I wouldn't be surprised at that.   I think that it has a startling resemblance to the Dassault/Dornier Alpha jet too.  It isn't graceful like the Flanker, but its proportions are pleasing.

Here it is, not the same but you see what I mean, very similar to the Frogfoot.

I had thought to keep the camo a secret until I finished, but oh well...  here she is as of late last night.

I started by cutting out shapes and laying them onto the model to get an idea of what looked good when I hit upon this design.   To me, it can be seen as a flying bird or aircraft design.

I would like to think that each viewer will see something different in it than just an incomplete and odd camo job.   Or maybe I'm looking to see more than is there?   I think it will look good next to my bright green Afghan MiG.

I'm so glad that the Fairchild went with another design, gawd that's ugly!!  No proportion in the tail and aft fuselage.

Thanks, but I'm still apprenticing my trade.   The paint is far too clean for what I had envisioned with all that heavy preshading.   The subtleties of color and tone that I achieved are much more apparent in person than in these pics.   If I could sling paint like Vermeer I'd be a happy, happy man.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a hard critic on myself- it's what pushes me to keep trying something different than before.

It's what keeps us progressing Dre, if you were content even when others said it was great I guess you would never improve. Either way nice looking Frogfoot. What country is it from again?

I'll probably put Russian markings on it.

Is the paint job one you created? Or is it an actual scheme?

Oh, this is all mine but loosely based on a scheme shown at top and listed as Iraqi on this decal sheet.  (same set of decals that I used on that MiG-21MF)

Basically, I just took the muted colors and some of the camo (wings and spine) and made it mine.  I had cut out colored shapes and was placing them on the model when I noticed the design coming together.   It's far from accurate, but it looks neat.Wink

It really does look good there, I don't know if you noticed on the Su-27 Best fighter in the world video's but there was no consistency among the camouflage patterns on many of the Russian aircraft, so with that you could say it could actually be out there.

While imaginary, i did try to keep it plausible...  I've got to find some more kits so I can use up those remaining decals.

Hey, guys:

I've started my Su-25K. The RLM 76 is a little too light for my tastes, but, well, every Russian cockpit seems to be a different shade of blue, gray, and green, so that's my excuse. :-) Even tamed some photoetch bits.

Looks good, Porkbits.    Nailing down Russian colors is a fun and exciting hobby in itself.

Looks good to me Dre, and I can see some of that pre-shading of the panel lines. The colours you have used have a sort of dusty/faded look to them already, I don't think you need anything more that some panel line washes etc to finish it off. The only thing I'd question (keeping in mind this is the graphic designer's brain talking) is whether it is perhaps too balanced, left-to-right?? I like to see some conflict in proportions!

Glad you like the paint, that's just the effect I've been going for.   Both colors have 4 different mixes in them to give them depth and variety but they will get yet more fading soon.

I think that there's enough tension in the design due to the forward thrust of the spine shape in relation to the wings.  I could have shifted the spine shape back towards the tail for  more balance with the wings but it started to look too cross-like...   The fun thing is that what the eye sees and tries to recognize as a familiar shape changes depending on your viewing angle to the model.   Is it a bird, is it a plane IS IT COMING STRAIGHT AT ME????

One thing's for certain, it ought to stand out on a contest table!

Porkbits & Dre: Great work there guys!!!

BTW guys: The Northrop A-9A lost to the Fairchild Republic A-10 in the contest for the USAF's new ground attack aircraft. The Soviets copied the A-9 to design the Frogfoot. Always stuck me as weird they would copy the losing aircraft.

I didn't know that either...  but at least the Soviets made it a better looking copy IMO than Northrop's original design!

Excellent work there Porkbits, out of curiosity what brand of kit is the 1/48 SU-25K you're making? Dre as ever looking great, also as you wanna use up your decals, I can recommend the 1/32 Mig-23, I am planning on buying another.

Thanks, guys! Dean, it's the Eduard limited-edition re-pop of the Kopro kit. Specifically, the version that Eduard sold with Frogfoot t-shirts. The L-sized-shirt kits sold out quickly, so I had to snag one with an XXL shirt. Too big for me, but I'm more interested in the kit. :-)

HA!  Got one after I saw the photos of yours!

My Soviet stash stands like this- MiG-15bis, MiG-17, MiG-23, MiG-29, Su-27, Su-27, Su-30.

I might desire another MiG-21 and Su-25 though.....

Hi guys,

Wow!!!

This has been progressing quite a bit,  guess I will need the rest of the day just catching up :)

Did some work on my SU-27 last day, I would like to close the sandwich.

But I have encountered a small problem, when I follow Eduard's instructions and cut of the lip that is protruding from the rear of the cockpit top hull and assemble the rear cockpit wall I am left with a significant gap.

How would you resolve this?

I am a bit surprised that Eduard give you a Brassin part that fits so badly...

Or is it just me?
