Well at almost half of the MSRP and WITH all the goodies, I'm happy with the quarter-scale Eduard...Its already BIG even at that scale...and let's face it, once built, probably every Flanker kit out tyhere pretty much looks like a Flanker, which IMO is one of the most attractive jets ever made...

Seems that no one has yet gotten all the facets of a Flanker model kit right yet...  even the Trumpeter 1/32 series have their problems (but gods, what a big, beautiful model).  They fixed some of the problems from the first release, the Su-27B, in the later runs of the -27UB C and -30MK G but some supercritics are still not pleased.   Zactoman, Aires and Wolfpack make sweet resin bits to round out these kits.  The Aires resin seats are fan-freaking-tastic.

For the money that Eduard wants for that kit, I'd go up a scale and get one of the Trumpeter monsters for pretty much the same price (although you don't get all the extra goodies).

Got the nose-cone but that canopy is a bit harder to find...probably pose it open anyway and won't be able to tell much...

I ordered the correct nose cone from TD...Is there a replacement canopy out there? What's the issue???

It is a licensed Academy with resin tube & seat, preprinted PE for the cockpit and a regular sheet for added detail.

Some problems with the Academy kit have been corrected (Seat, tube and wheels) while problems reported with the canopy and nose cone remain.

I have it in the stash, paid 500 Sek ($75) and still think it is somewhat pricey especially when you consider that the MIG 21 ProfiPack is available at the same price.

It's scheduled to run through the end of the year, but it'll probably go until I finish mine.

If Manny is OK with it, I'll allow a cross-GB build.

To stay on topic for this GB...   I got the 4 quarter sections of the engine glued up and waiting for the glue to fully cure before I attempt to clean up the seams.   Most of the big sub-assemblies are glued up and awaiting seam cleaning...  I guess it's time to focus on the little things.

Nah, just jealous that Jester joined this GB with a Flanker instead of the Flanker GB that is ongoing.

It's OK since I'll save on postage...

So is this open to all Sukhoi and Migs? If so, I may grace it with a Hasegawa 72nd Su-27 if thats cool.

I managed to get some green stuff on the sprues.

Thought I could manage without primer which was foolish considering that I am covering clear and dark grey.

No biggy, just have to give it a second set of layers tomorrow.

Herr Generalfeldtmarschall,

Your encouragement is invaluable!

Strengthend in spirit and mind and with this interesting reference picture to back me I will start mixing acrylics...

Dre,

I guess you are right but the Model Master range is not easily available here.

Also the kit includes printed stencils for the side walls that should be matched to whatever color.

Word of warning here to anyone building the weekend edition, the instructions ask you to attache the side wall stencils to "plastic" but the "plastic" parts are not provided which is a bit odd since they are a bit complex in shape. I will use the stencils as a mask and let you know how it goes.

Looks like ya'll are starting to make some progress...if ya'll can quit crying and fussing over this "Russian interior color" thing you might get past the cockpits...

Svenne, I use the Model Master enamel Interior Blue/Green- it's just about spot-on.

Mixing this color might not be worth the effort when there's an easier path.

Hi,

Celebrations are over, it got a bit late after someone landed Croatian mooneshine at two in the morning :)

Anyone who can advice on a good recipe for interior green/blue using Tamiya acrylics?

Svenne, I'm glad that you posted those seat photos- now I know better than to paint it similar to a KM-36 seat.

What little progress that I've made-

cockpit parts with a first coat of turquoise paint and the kit's basic seat; another coat of paint and I'll start detail painting stuff.

Main wings with wheel well detail (ha, there's precious little to see in there!!)

and that's all for now.
