Simply outstanding. Like Dre and some others, I'd not have guessed 1/72nd in a million years if I didn't know. YesYes

BTW, your RC and your flying skills ain't too shabby either, mate. Wink

Thanks for taking the time to let us follow along with this build.

Still looks great.  I don't know which photo I like better- the full sunlit shot or the head-on tent shot.

...is there anyplace that makes ace combat decals im playing the game again and want to build a couple of the air frames from the game

Hasegawa makes the kits for Ace Combat. http://acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/Merchandise  Hasegawa USA will also let you order replacement decals. Email partssupport@hobbico.com to request a quote for the decals you want.  I ordered an extra set for this Flanker for $10 shipped.  It comes from Japan by way of Hasegawa USA (Hobbico) and then ships to you.  I was told the process takes 4-8 weeks.  I do not know what the availability of any of the decals are, so you'll just have to contact them to see what they say...

Hope this helps.

Nice! If you hadn't mentioned it, I never would've known that you had made some mistakes while building it. Great job!

WOW, this is one beautiful model.  If you didn't tell us that it's 1/72 I would have thought that it's a larger scale as the build quality and paint are so good.

Oh, man, that is SWEEEEEEEET, T3chDad. That's a ridiculous amount of weaponry and I love it (why I also like the A-10 so much). Great scheme, finish, and that base is just the icing on the cake. Awesome job. Hope my Flanker comes out looking half that good. Seriously.

Here we go!!

She's definitely not perfect, but overall, I'm very happy with how she turned-out. It has been a very worthwhile learning experience to me.  It was gloomy and rainy here all day, so I didn't have any natural light for pics.  I made due in my shop with lights I had on hand.  I hope you enjoy the pictures!

The base is a Polar Lights universal model stand (about $7USD).  I had a nameplate engraved at my local "Things Remembered".  I custom cut 1/8" plexi to mount the squadron badge on.  I modified the stand by using carbon fiber tube I had laying around from my RC stuff.

This is the only pic with natural light.  The sun peaked through my loft windows for a few minutes yesterday and I snapped a couple.

Those red warning decals are a PITA, no matter what.

You're never gonna notice, I put the red walkways back to front on my mirage 2000. It was way too late to correct, and to be honest it's not that obvious.

I cannot catch a break....from being a dumb-ass.

You know the two big red square panel decals?  The ones I messed up the bird with the first time?  I was wondering why they didn't seem to fit properly...a little long in one dimension and a little short in the other.  Surely Hasegawa was better with getting the decals right than this!? They are.  I put the decals on backwards and rotated.  I didn't notice until after wash-touch-up and gloss.  Oh well...let's let it be our little secret.

This proves the point how we humans go into things with preconceptions...

Small update.  The armament and the pylons are done.

That only leaves the decals and flat coat.  Wink

Dre

Beautiful recovery, dude.   I'd love to see more of your work.

In the future, would you be open to cutting a splinter mask (or two) in 1/32??  I'd pay for it!

Thanks!  I'm sure we can work something out with the masking.

In the previous pictures I used a variety of masking material (pictured below).  Yes, in one it was a paper towel with some blue 3M Edge-Lock tape.  I also use the yellow Tamiya 6mm tape.  Lastly, I use transfer paper that is typically for use with vinyl cutter lettering/design.

In this case, I used the vinyl cutter to cut out all of the camo shapes at once on the transfer paper and used that for the mask. The transfer paper is low-tack and works great for large masking jobs.  It's really nice to be able to take a scanned image of the scheme and make all the masking in a matter of minutes.

Heck yea!  Great save.

What are you masking with?   Once looked like paper towel, that last mask made with packaging material?

Fix is done!  I'm very happy with the results.

Here she is right after the camo painting.

...and after the gloss-wash-gloss...

I think I'll work on the armament next...

The fix is looking god so farYes.  I know for me when I screw up a build sometimes its best if I just set the model down and take a break from it for a while.  Although it looks like whatever you're doing is working fine.
