Chasing the ultimate build.
Thx for the encouragement, men. That lathed IRP tip is pretty sweet. I may go that route if I can get some dimensions to make the tube part.
Alternatively, If you really have to have one, check out this ebay item. it's the most difficult piece to scratch build -- the tip). the rest is pretty much just a tube...

SargeUSMCWell, I guess this build is in the toilet.......somehow I either threw away or otherwise lost the IRP for this thing.....and apparently the probe just folds into the fuselage without a door covering it, or I'd just fill in the hole.....

Ya I was thinking that.......does anyone have one of these kits that they could maybe take some photos and shoot me some measurements? Monogram kit #5148. RM sez they can't send me a part because the kit is out of production.
I would imagine you could scratch-build one with some round styrene rod of various sizes. Don't give up yet!

Sarge, it's looking great! Too bad the Marines didn't use that bird. I would love to see one in Marine markings.

Build one at a time? Hah! That'll be the day!!
nope.......seems like that might be more complicated??
Sarge, have you ever tried filling a seam with stretched sprue and liquid glue?
Normally no, although I believe I have run across a few photos where they are drooped.

Mustang.......Don't do what I did.....don't mount the launch rails until after the wings are on and the roots are done.....hehehehe
Wings!
Prep for puttying up the wing roots...gonna take echolmberg's suggestion and tape it.....where I can get the tape in......where I can't I'll just have to wing it......hehehe
Yes, there is some rearward tilt. Like your port stabilizer. Go to www.airliners.net enter a-7 corsair ii in the search engine, and you'll see.
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
aaahhhh.....roger that.
So I guess I goofed mounting up the LAU9's before the wings......gonna have a helluva time puttying up the underside wing roots.
Like the B-52 was the BUFF... Big Ugly Fat Fella*, the A-7 was the SLUF, Short Little Ugly Fella*

Thanks. Whats a SLUF?
For those who do not know the backgroud of this kit, I will elaborate. This kit was originally a 1960s vintage Aurora mold with features like retractable landing gear (with empty open wheel wells as a result), spartan cockpit, and IIRC an opening canopy hood. Monogram, when they took over Aurora's molds in the late 1970's, retooled the kit and added a much better cockpit, wheel wells, weapons, better exterior panel lines, etc. But it still retains the orginal Aurora shapes and lines overall. It's no state of the art kit today, some 40+ years later, but if you want an affordable SLUF in your 1/48 colleection, this is your only real option.
Sarge, I am enjoying watching you wrassle this one into shape.
ahhh, that's good. The picture had me fooled.
oooh.....no those were separate parts...............
Allow me to show my ignorance. ....what is an LAU9?
