Well it's taken me a bit longer for the finishing steps than I'd anticipated, but it's done!

Since my last post, I've got the door in place with its fiddly PE latching mechanism, the canopy is on, and the weathering is done.

After the washes, I chipped some of the paint with a Prismacolor silver pencil, then used pastel chalks for the gun stains, exhaust stains and the dirt on the wheels. I went with a light brown for the dirt because I couldn't figure out if this one would have flown off a coral strip, which would have been more pinkish.

All in all, I can say this was a blast to build. I have very few complaints about this kit - namely the two-piece hood, the propeller that falls out and the way the exhaust stacks are installed. The last one really wasn't a big problem, and thanks to Antoni for the advice on leaving the hood unglued until after paint to make installing them easy.

Superb!  Well lit and well filmed too.  I think your hard demarcation lines are perfectly fine too.  There's enough business here that it's not really a thought at all.  The Cartograph decals are really amazing too.  I love painting everything I can, but it's hard to argue with those bad boys.  This is a sweet build BD...thanks for sharing!

I hope to add one to the shelf one day.  =]

That Spitfire is absolutely outstanding BD. That paint work and detailing all around is stellar. I just received this kit as a B-day present from my good friend Greg and I was ecstatic. Having watched you build this up has certainly got me amped to cut the sprue on this baby. Thanks for the heads up on the panels and exhaust. Thank you so much for sharing your WIP. You definitely have some excellent skills and techniques.

Joe (lawdog) - yes it is a beautiful kit. I figured as long as I was careful with the glue and didn't muck about too much with the paint, it would turn out well, and I'm happy with it.

Joe Rix - you've got a nice friend with great taste! One more thing - if I were to build this kit again, I'd paint the backside of the three bottom nag lights silver. The rear one shows up as just a dark hole on mine, and the red and green lights are fine, but a silver backing would have ben preferable, I believe. Also, when you do the latch on the cockpit door, you will most likely have to widen the holes for the rod in the two brackets. The rod was too big to fit through on mine, and I'm not sure if it was because it was ever-sos-lightly deformed from removing it from the fret or if they got too much paint or if they really are too small. A few turns with a No. 11 blade solved the issue.
