There will be 3 (I'll get the 3rd caught up, once the missing sprue shows up....tentatively on Monday). 2 will be OOB, the other is getting tricked out with an opened up engine, gun bay, and flaps.
I've got about 15 hours into this, so far. Will add more plumbing and wiring once it's attached to the firewall and in the fuselage, as well as a little more treatment to the exhausts.
Very nice! Love the engine detail. My wife graciously bought me the Royal Class kit for Christmas so Ill be following this thread for sure.

Fermis,
That is one great looking penny! Oh, and the engine looks really good too! LOL!
Seriously, that is a huge amount of detail in such a small engine! And the cockpits look fantastic too! If you didn't show the penny for scale, it would be hard to believe they are 1/72. Great job!

Wow! I can almost smell the gasoline! Or maybe that's paint thinner?
Anyway, great work on cockpit and engine.

Wow! Love that engine!

Seriously a fine build, what a steady hand you must have. Thanks, I'll be checking up on this WIP regularly.

Dang fermis, remove the penny and I'd swear this was quarter scale or larger. Awesome work man.

Attempted this a few weeks ago...failed. Couldn't get the engine to fit.
May have to buy some over trees to replace the opened up fuselage pieces.
Your skills are obviously way better than mine young jedi

I can already tell, from dry fitting...the engine mount is about a mm long. Nothing a little cuttin and drillin can't handle...I hope!
Thanks dudes!
Not much to show for today (spent most of the day outside)...missing sprue came in, so I got the 3rd one caught up to the others....
Amazing work!!!! where do you find wirer that small ?
Dam and then work with it. :)
Thats some impressively fine details you got for a 72nd kit. Beautiful.
No bucks, no Buck Rogers
I think the gearbox on the engine should be satin black instead of blue...
Really humbling and inspiring to see what experts can do with 1/72 scale!!
Marc
Excellent detail work Fermis, that engine is awesome. Looking forward to further progress

Much thanks!
The mag wires were PE...the fine wires I added in back are just fine copper wire, taken from some of the old runway/taxiway lights at my airport. Kinda fitting, to put em back into "aviational" use!
JackReacher I think the gearbox on the engine should be satin black instead of blue...
Yes...it has been repainted. The ref pic I was looking at turned out to be a Russian built copy used in rebuilt warbirds.
I haven't quite gotten that far yet, but a little test fitting shows the back of the exhaust stacks to be a bit over 1mm too far forward. The cowl will be wide open, so not much issue there. It does seem to fit nicely inside what little reamins of the cowl.
We shall see!
Any new pics?
Negatory.
Got some craptastic weather and got to spend many hours at my airport, keeping the runways clean. I did get a couple hours "down time" waiting for the snow to pile up a bit. Took the 190's, got seams sanded...that's about it.
That is amazing work on such a small scale. My hats off to you for being able to work so small. I just can't do it. Fantastic.

Thanks you!
The exhausts were painted flat black, then just drybrushed with a dark brown and lighter brown. At the end, they'll get a treatment of brown & tan pastels.
The engine did not want to fit. Either the bulkhead sits a bit too far forward, or the engine mount is too long. The end of the exhausts should be right about even with the front of the panel.
(Gotta clean up that seam on the exhausts!)
I trimmed the engine mount...
Attached to the bulkhead and added some more wires.
Just a few touch ups needed on the bare wires and I can proceed!
Amazing work fermis. You have to have incredible patience to put in that much detail. Your engine looks like it could start up and start belching smoke any minute now
Wow, That's fantastic, I think I'll give up now. And I wanted to start another 1/72 190 this month, Anything I'd do wold look like a snap tite comparied to yours. Amazing!
