Hi Toshi:

I can go on and on about this wonderful hobby. It is so therapeutic in so many ways.

Of all my kids number 5 took to the hobby and loves it.

He is 12 years old and in 6th grade. Back when he was 5 years old in Kindergarden his teacher was concerned that he scored low on his reading portion of his state exam. I have a library in the finished portion of our basement and I have a collection of airplane books mostly World War 2 and WW 1. He started pulling these books and looking at them and my wife and I would read to him. By the time he was in 2nd grade he was reading at a 4th grade level. Fast forward to 6th grade where he knows many many aircraft of both WW1 and WW2. He knows more than I DO!!!!!!

And he reads at about an 8th grade level and now reads alot of my books in my library and tells me about them!!!

We also spend weekend freetime together working on the many models he has WIP. Right now I am trying to teach him how to airbrush. I recently have been overhauling my model paints from enamel to acryllic which I think are a lot safer to use, no smell in the house and clean up a LOT easier!!!

So keep up the great work Toshi you are on the right track to happy healing and a lot of fun. Not to mention this FORUM reflects the wonderful spirit of the modeling community. I can't tell you how many times I have posted "HELP ME" questions and people enthusiastically come forward with plenty of helpful information. I try to return the favor whenever I can.

Best wishes Toshi. I always look forward to your builds and your stories that go along with the builds!!

Thank you for the heart felt warmth words.  I love hearing stories like how your son was able to overcome and now excell in his studies.  The Japanese has a saying, "It's the parents that mold their children".

One day he'll remember all of this and look back at what you've done for him.  Isn't this priceless?  All this hard work will definately payoff For the both of you, and it has at this point.  Congratulations to you, your wife, and of course to your son.

To my fellow forum neighbors,

Yesterday reminded me of a much simple atmosphere.  What happened was that all of a sudden, we had no cable, landline, internet, and or no breakfast sandwiches.  Ultimately, my daughter came home with a couple of bags of McDonalds!  I have a sweet tooth addiction.  My daughter also got me a large chocolate shake.  Mrs. Toshi and Allana (My daughter) really knows how to make me happy!

Without the basic electrical items, I thought we were going to die.  That's when a epiphany hit me.  Our parents had no such thing as a cell phone.   In all honesty, Mrs Toshi and I had no cell phones as well.  That was some thirty years ago.  The realization of ones self came unto my mind.  Sometimes we need to remove ourselves from all of this technology, yet, the very odd culprit makes life that much easier.  Or does it?

I know for a fact, my newly found hobby of building aircraft came to me as a all healing tonic!  LOL!  That's what makes modeling so much fun, everything from preparation, assembly, and the final finishing of the kit brings me such joy to be able to accomplish such a huge task.  I'll close with a mantra that FSM members have taught me.  Just have fun, just have fun, just have fun, and for safety measures just have fun.  Below, I have included some photos of what I've accomplished.  Thank you forum members in advance.

Toshi

Bad news about the canopy but I am sure it will be taken care of. The bird looks great as always.

Good looking Hornisse (German for Hornet). Bummer about the canopy but Revell will fix that for you.

To Brandon,

The paint scheme is a unusual one at best.  It's actually the box cover art.

Looks good, Toshi. I don't think I've seen that scheme before, and I like it.

Nicely done!

This build was a first for me as I post shaded (Weathering) this kit.  I went to Hobby Lobby to see if they had anything like this in regards to a wash post weathering paint.  Luckily I found this and I really like the way Vallejo has marketed themselves.  Although this weathering set is geared towards armour type vehicles, I think it really went out well.

This was all an experiment for me.  As I continue to build, I should get this set to help me with post washes.

These next photos are from today.  I'm unable to finish this kit as the canopy glass has been warped by some type of heat.  I'm going to contact Revell of Germany to get some replacement canopies.  This is what I have for now.

Here is an update for Monday.  So far I have the gloss coat on for preparations in decal placement.  Included are photos of the 410 with decals.

1943Mike

It's a good thing I just got back from a lunch buffet at Spirit Mountain (the local Native American casino about 30 miles from where I live). I sometimes join my brother there for lunch - he likes to play the slots. If I hadn't already eaten I'd be salivating having read Toshi's description of his cooking.

As usual Toshi your WIP is going quickly and looks really good!

I really like your (and Mrs. Toshi's) taste in aircraft. In the last week or so I've ordered both the old 1/48 Monogram Kingfisher with etched parts and the Revell 1/48 Messerschmitt ME 410B-6/R-2. I normally need to budget more tightly for my hobbies but today I don't feel too badly since, while at the casino with my brother, I came away with over $100.00 more than I went in with. That even includes the lunch Big Smile.

So now, if I can just get the camo airbrushing technique down for my 1/48 Tamiya Fock Wulf 190 F-8, I have lots and lots more aircraft kits to keep me happy.

Mike

To Mike1943,

At first practice on a piece of styrene.  I use a half of a Monogram B-17G.  It came with the visible kit.  That's how I got started.  You'll do just fine!

To my fellow forum members,

Mrs. Toshi and I had a very nice calm and quite Easter Sunday.  The weather was absolutely stunning at 70+ degrees.  For our Easter Sunday dinner, I cooked a Prime Rib with loaded baked potatoes and broccoli.  I was able to work on the build last night.  I feel that today, I progressed a lot further than anticipated.  As you can see, the main wings and tail were completed and attached.

While I let the glue adhere and cure, I took last nights Prime Rib, chopped it into cubes and stir fried it with onions, mushrooms, garlic, salt, and pepper.  I'll serve this over some Japanese style sticky rice.  While I prepare dinner, I'm already planning my next step into the build.  I really enjoy this build as it is unique in every way.  I can't wait to AB this kit!  Until then, please view the build below.  Thank you forum members for following and supporting my thread.

I just picked this up out of curiosity to see how well the gloss varnish worked.  I like it very much.  Here is what was completed on this Easter Sunday.

You've done a really nice job on the pit. It is a busy one. Kind of looks like a jet fighter pit.                     gk

Thank you knox.  I agree in your statement, it does look like a cockpit that belongs to a jet.  LOL!

Toshi -

What can I say that has not already been stated. You sir are on a awesome roll with the builds you have been putting out!Yes I really like the kit you have chosen, and the PE in the pit is remarkable. Yet another fantastic build my friend! I will be here until you finish her. Enjoy the build.

Thank you for the kind words.  It is Mrs. Toshi of whom purchased this particular kit for me.  Thank you for following my builds.

Great work on the pit Toshi, and a good choice of subject. I have never heard of Revell puting PE in there kits, never seen it in an RoG kit thats for sure.

Thank you Bish.  I can thank Mrs. Toshi for this choice as she purchased this particular kit.  There is another Revell kit that I built that includes PE, that would be the High Tech Kingfisher model kit.

You're doing great things with the PE Toshi. Looks excellent. I have to admit that the PE set that is included is quite impressive.

Thank you JOE RIX.  Yes, I agree, the PE that's included is impressive.  It looks to me as it's been produced by Eduard.
