Like GM, I do love the F-104 as well... talk about built for speed. Her red line was limited by the engine temperatures, not by the airframe

and after all what other fighter can intercept a Starship?

(Raises his hand and frantically waves!) 1/72 scale Fujimi F-4B with homemade decals:

Just lovely! Of course I had to look at all your pictures from the link, and I see that you've built one of my all-time favorite bombers - the North American B-45 Tornado!

Sorry for the off-topic, but I had to say something. Lots of other nifty things there, too.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm one of the few who survived building the Mach 2 B-45. I ended up selling it off to someone who just had to have it. Might do another someday (he said masochistically).

Neeto pic. There's a corner of the old elevated Embarcadero freeway lower right the big curve. Demolished after 89 and not missed. Just above that the Hills Bros. plant, roasting the mornings beans. Man that smelled good. Headquarters of Firefox now.

The center anchorage of the Bay Bridge- our friend Subfixer tried to hit it with Ranger back in the 70's.

Back in 2010 I had a hired car and driver in Jordan, driving all over looking at history.

we're on our way somewhere and we passed a gate guardian, an F-104 D two seater. I've posted the one pic I got, before.

So Jordan had 8 in delivery in May 1967, but they were "detained" in Turkey I think is how the story goes.

Barbara Eden was gorgeous! As a kid I had a crush on her, and still do 50 years later.

I have read that she and Gen. Yeager are still friends to this day since the cast took a trip to Edwards.

Apparently Mrs Douglas from Green Acres (Eva Gabor) got to meet the ace as well back when he was a Lt Col...

Jeannie and Mrs Douglas? Yeah, that's a MAN Wink

For me it's the F86.....first jet I ever saw as a kid.

There is something about that airframe......it looks like a fighter.....as kids we'd sit out in the yard in the summer and watch the ANG flying formations and patterns in our area....first one to call out a plane with the gear down was considered a real "eagle-eye".

Growing up in the UK, I have to say the Harrier and the Tornado, followed closely by the Jaguar and Phantom! Smile

We talking looks, perfromance, reputation or what? My picks will probably be a little different then most...

Purely for looks, I've always had a thing for the F100 Super Sabre, especially the "F" 2 seat model in Vietnam camo...

 '

Most people probably find this next one ugly but from a simple "Its totally BA at what it does perspective" POV, I'm a big fan of the A-10 Warthog...

But if I had the skill and the stomach for it and there was one plane I could take for a joy ride, it would be the F-16...

I'd love to take a joyride in any fighter jet - especially in a crazy Dutch F-16! Take off like these:

Including Blue Angels' Fat Albert in a JATO take-off and short airfield landings.

My favorite is the Grumman F9 Cougar. Looks good in Navy blue or white and orange. To me it just looks perfect!  Image

I'm going to go with Seastallion on this one.  MANY beautiful and powerful fighters mentioned here as well as a few Attack aircraft the Air Force labeled as fighters but, each to their own.  To me, a "real fighter" is single seat, single engine.  There is only one.  The mighty F-8 Cursader.  The Mig Master.  No one ever said "When you're out of Phantoms or Sabers, you're out of fighters" but, it WAS said about the F-8...

I dunno, tough question- too many to choose from. I like the looks of the F-15 Eagle, SR-71 Blackbird, F-101 VooDoo, even the F-4 Phantom.

Little surprised no one listed the MiG-25 Foxbat- two gigantic engines with a tiny cockpit in the middle and two stubby wings on the sides- what's not to like? Stick out tongue
