Hi John,

I love that big B-29 kit.  As you may have already guessed, it's going to take a lot of weight to keep the nose down but it can be done!  On my last kit, I stuffed split fishing weights in as many places (in the model) as I could.  Since then, I have purchased lead shot from a good hunting store.  The tiny lead shot can really fill up a space more densely than large fishing weights.  When it comes to the B-29, you'll even need to fill the gun tubs with weight and that's where the lead shot will really do a great job.  Just fill it with shot, pour in some white glue (or any other adhesive of your choice) and let it set.

Well, as you said including them in the kit would increase the price. And if they sold them separtly they'd have to contract them out to another company, then package them, set up a whole stock-keeping and distribution system- I expect it would be a lot of work. Plus some companies stopped making lead figures and switched to pewter because some areas were so afraid some kid would swallow a chunk of lead that they banned stuff like this.

There are aftermarket parts already, a net search found this guy:

Says 2007 on the link, no idea if he's still in business or not though.

No. But I do know of someone working on a 1/48 scale B-29. You're gonna need nose weights big time. Not only in the nose but elsewhere on the fuselage.

Revel's response to my e-mail ;Why doesn't Revell provide nose weights to prevent tail sitters?

I have built a number of aircraft that require nose weights to prevent them from sitting on their tails. It is always guess work. I recently finished a 1/48 B-24 and could not install enough weight to prevent a tail sitter. I will be working on a 1/48 B-29 and I have no idea as to how much nose weight will be required. It will be guess work. SO I sent the following e-mail to Revell:

"I just completed your 1/48 B-24 and am working on your 1/48 B29.  Both of these models require the installation of nose weights to prevent the airplane from sitting on its tail.  It would be great if you provided molded nose weights with your kits. If you do not want to increase the price of your kits, why not sell them as separate parts? Why do you not provide nose weights?"

Following is their response:

Dear John,
This is an interesting idea. We will give it consideration at our next Product Development meeting. Thank you for your suggestion.

What do you think? Will it happen?
