Nicely done, Toshi!

-BD-

Thank you BrandonD.  This was my first kit to be built in my new bench.  Moving from a three bedroom condo to a two bedroom condo was interesting at best.  At one point it became quite of an ordeal.

My model niche was the last to be set up.  Getting acclimated to the area trying to build a 1/32 Harrier was a challenge but everything turned out great!  Thank you BrandonD for your support in my builds!

That is a good looking Harrier you built, Tosh.

I saw one at a Confederate Air Force air show in Harlingen, Texas (very near the border with Mexico) back in about 1976. Maybe 1978, who knows, the memory is not as good as it once was. I do remember thinking it was like something out of a science fiction movie, taking off and landing vertically as it does. And it was so very loud!

As to the Academy P-38, I recently built that kit as the F-5 Lightning, the photo recon version. It is a really good kit with decent details. Your Eduard set will really spice up that bird. Look out for the wing to boom connections, and the booms can actually twist out of alignment to where the rudders are not properly vertical.

I've also seen the Harrier in airshows at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station. Your model is definitely loaded for bear! Maybe if they'd kept one of those at Jurrasic Park, the dinosaurs would have been better behaved.Big Smile

Watching a Harrier takeoff and land vertically must be an extremely unique experience.  I wish I got to see such a marvel.  Thank you sir for the read and reply.

Looking good there Toshi. I like the markings on the tail.

Thank you so much Bish.  I've learned so much from you.  I recall how you helped me with my Trumpeter 1/32 Stuka build.  Taking the knowledge of what you've given me, I have taken this to continue to improve my builds one step at a time.  I'm so thankful for this very kind gesture!

As for the; "Markings on the tail", I love how the black offsets the rest of the gray/grey on the Harrier.  It gives it a different look.  But most importantly at least for me is the fact that there is a cat decal for the tail as I am a catafanatic!  LOL!  Thank you so much Bish for always giving me the support and read and replies on my WIP builds!

Toshi

I agree about the tail. I do much prefer the grey Harrier scehem to the early RAF green one, but the black is a nice touch.

This hobby is all about learning and improving and the good thing about this place is we can all pick up tips and ideas from each other. No matter how long or short a time you have been building, we all have somthing to offer.

I'm a cat man as well. I love the independance and the 'I don't give a damn' attitude.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!  Never in a million years would I have thought to hang models vertically on the wall, but it makes perfect sense!  This will solve both my "not enough place for completed models" problem, and "lack of decor in spare room" problem.

You're welcome, you're welcome, and you're welcome.  It's my pleasure to help out in anyway.  I actually got this idea from several photos I saw here from FSM forum members.  There are so many inspirational members here with many years of knowledge, it never ceases to surprise me.

Enjoy your grandson, Toshi!  I have 3 grandsons under 3 years, and 8 grandkids in total soon to be 9.  There was a lot of screaming and running going on Thursday!

So far I have a couple of grandaughters who have built a few models, but the grandsons?  Nahhh!  Oh well.

Nice Harrier, and you did it pretty fast, too.  The skills are definitely there.

I definately am and will do so.  It sounds as if you had a great time with family especially with your grandchildren.  Someday I wish for the same.

Thank you for your kind comments on my Harrier build.  All I did was to be inspired by your builds and the many FSM forum members builds!  Also thanks for the visit!

You're Harrier turned out great, Toshi.

It's very nice that your first build in your new place turned out to be one of your favorites, what with your negative expectations and all.

I think your new grandbabysitting duty is awesome! Good for you.

Looking forward to your next project.

Once again, thank you so very much Greg for everything.  I'm very happy with the way the Harrier turned out.  I too am very excited for nt next project, it can't come too soon!  LOL!

Toshi

Enjoy your grandkids and don't you worry none. For me it has been 28 years since holding and caring for my newborn kids. My granddaughter can't wait for her daily ride in her blue wagon around the neighborhood (with grandpa pulling). She adores it and smiles during our stroll. I also can't wait to take them for ice cream and raiding the toy shops! Big Smile

Just want to show you how the Academy P-38 builds OOB. It's a very nice kit as I previously stated and all the am items will elevate the wow factor. I mentioned the decals cause they are very thick and refuse to stay put even with Solvaset that is very strong. The decals I went with are ultra thin and are fantastic specially over BMF.

I think you will enjoy building this kit. I just remembered that I added resin nose guns, a vast improvement over the kit's. No filler at all except for a couple of small spots  at the boom/wing join area.

To plasticjunkie,

I will definately enjoy my time with my grandson and with your recommendation, will not; "Worry none".  He is just so little and fragile yet he's a tough little bugger!  LOL!  That must be really cool to be pulling your granddaughter around in her blue wagon around the neighborhood.  You must be one proud grandfather!

Your Academy P-38 looks awesome as a OOB.  I just hope I can do some justice with the Eduard Brassin AM kit.  I've only worked on one resin cockpit in my life.  It was a Revell Baa Baa Blacksheep kit.  The resin kit was from Verlinden.  I'll start to look for AM decals via eBay right now.

The resin nose machine guns is a very nice touch.  I'm also glad that little to next to no putty was needed in this build.  I have built a small handful of Academy 1/72 kits and greatly enjoyed the fit and finish of each kit that I assembled.  Thank you once again!

well done.

Theuns

Thank you Thuens.  I use your fantastic builds as inspiration.  For the ordinance, I was going to go with moderation as I knew that most fighter jets carry only a certain amount of ordinance.  And that's what I was going to do with the Harrier build.

fermis was building the same exact build during my build and he mentioned that his kit did not come with rails for certain armaments.  I thought I was in trouble as I did not have extra rails like fermis did.  He had the resources to do so.

After careful evaluation, I realized every single ordinance came with rails.  fermis mentioned that his was a early version while my kit was a revised edition of which I was happy about.  However at this juncture, since I had all of the resources needed to load up the Harrier, I decided to do so, hence the final reveal.

For me, the most important critique was from Mrs. Toshi.  She thought that the Harrier looked really cool with the ordinance loaded up.  That's all I needed.  I'm also very happy that you approve as well!  Thank you Theuns for your support, read, and reply!

To PlasticJunkie,

Thank you so very much for your kind comments in regards to the Harrier build.  That had to be one of my favorite builds thus far.  Other builds I enjoyed were the Visible B-17G with PE Interior, Strike Eagle, and the Visible Dauntless and Me 262 to name a few.  Well actually, all my builds were favorites in succession.  LOL!

I guess the Harrier build meant so much to me as it was my build after my move in which I thought I would have to quit due to space constraints.  Not only that but the fact of the matter is that this Harrier build looks like one of my best and favorites in my collection as of yet in my humble opinion.

Thank you for your feedback on the Academy P-38 Lightning kit!  I'm pleased to know how well it's design, fit and finish is.  I'm also pleased by your recommendation in that the Eduard Brassin Big Sin AM set was a wise choice.  I'll definately look into AM decals as you suggested.

As for watching grandchildren.  I at first was hesitant and a bit scared.  It's been 23 years since I cared for a baby.  It was like riding a bike.  Wobbly at first but straight forward after a few attempts.  LOL!  I'm amazed and give you lots and lots of credit for watching a one year old girl and a newborn baby boy no matter for a couple hours a day.  You're a brave man!

My babysitting time can run from three hours to nine hours a day.  Yes, that's a very long day for me yet very fulfilling.  Whew!  LOL!  But every time I look into my grandsons angelic face and he smiles or laughs back, it melts my heart.  I just don't miss the diaper changes but it has to be done at least for now.

I can't wait to take him on walks to the park and go fishing with him.  Building snaptite kits, and flying balsa wood gliders and rubber band propelled airplanes.  Then to finish the day off with ice cream, cotton candy, and chocolate only to send him on his way home on a sugar rush and let mom and dad deal with him.  LOL!  I guess that's what grandchildren are for, to spoil and have fun with grandparents!

Thank you for sharing your story as well as the visit on my thread.  I'm so happy to have these conversations with you!

Nice clean build toshi, another fine looking model. That Trumpy P-38 is HUGE!

The Academy P-38 is a very nice kit with a great fit. The pit needs some tlc but then you are getting some am goodies for it. I built one as a comission a while back and it was a joy to work with but DO NOT use the kit decals. They are terrible.

I too have been taking care of my grandaughter since a newborn and now she is one. In a few weeks I will be taking care of my newborn grandson too so it will be two babies. My son and daughter inlaw work on different shifts so I will have both kids for about 3 hours or so daily.

I've have been proudly designated as the official babysitter for my 4 month old grandson Ezra James.  He is now the light of my life.  So my bench time is limited to a few days a week.  Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.  And I'm definately not complaining.  To me it's a blessing.  I'm enjoying every minute of my time with him.  You see, when he's old enough, I want to be building kits with him side by side.

He'll also never forget the time he spent with his Papa!  When I'm long gone he can look at these completed kits and have fond memories of his time with me building these detailed kits.  This is one facet of the meaning of life.

With sharing that moment in time, I'd like to add if I may the Harrier build mounted on my; "Wall of Fame", next to the Tamiya Avro Lancaster and a Trumpeter Stuka.  Thank you forum members.  And keep a look out for my P-38 Lightning build of which I just ordered.

stikpusher

Nice clean finish here Toshi. What is next for you here?

Thank you stikpusher!  Here's a interesting story.  Mrs. Toshi originally purchased for me a Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 Lightning L-5-LO.  She got it at such a steal via eBay, she's going to turn it around back on her eBay business.  She asked if I don't mind.  My answer was I'll do anything for her.  You see, she's a shrewd business woman.  And she's very good at it.  She's really good at turning around profit margins.

In consolation for me, she turned around and again got another steal for me, a Academy 1/48 P-38J Combination Version #12282 kit that can be either or a p-38J, P-38L, P-38 F-5E, or a Droopsnoop.  Plus as a bonus she also threw in for me a:

Eduard Brassin P-38J Big Sin Resin photoetch Super Detail Set for Academy

Collection of 5 photo-etched sets and Brassin sets for P-38J in 1/48 scale for Academy.

The set contains:

- wheels

- cockpit

- turbochargers and air intakes

- steel seatbelts

- painting mask

How could I say no!  LOL!

At some point, I did tell her that I'm interest in a Eduard Profipack.  Who knows what kind of deal she'll be able to get?

As soon as my Academy kit and Eduard Brassin set arrives you can bet I'll start a WIP as I've never built a Academy 1/48 kit nor utilized a Eduard Brassin set.  This is really exciting for me.  stikpusher, thank you for inquiring on my next project and the visit as well!

You have often said, you feel that your work is not up to the level of some of the other modelers on FSM, but you have proven yourself wrong. This Harrier is superb, thank you so much for the post and photos and for sharing your efforts with us.

I vote for you, to be one of the Top Guns here on the forums. And I'm very happy to see you have made your new building space workable, as others told you, if required you could build your models in any space available.

What's next for the production line? We'll be watching to see. Thanks again, Toshi, good to see you back in business.

LOL!  LOL!  Thank you so much for your kind words.  It's always my pleasure to post my WIP here on this forum.  As for the building space, I was most inspired by other FSM forum members and what they shared with me in regards to their space and bench area.

I have learned and gleaned so much from you all for me to progress this far and am forever indebted to you all.  Thank you so much for your vote in confidence as well as your belief in my abilities!

Here we go!  This is the last and final installment of the Trumpeter 1/32 Harrier build.  It was such a fun and exciting kit, I loved Trumpeter's kits so much so in that I just won a bid last night via eBay of a Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 Lightning.  I've read nothing but excellent reviews of this product.  There was next to little to no negative comments.

I really loved the way this kit came out.  It's fit and finish were great!  Although in the hands of a master modeler like fermis, he found a couple of errors in which he not only corrected but he informed me on how to correct the issue at hand.  Check out his Harrier thread!  He built the same kit as well, it's just awesome and very awe inspiring how his turned out.

If anything, I've learned from this kit, fermis taught me to be more vigilant and cognitive of any issues that arises no matter how small the detail in which was the case in this build.  I also learned how to use the AB to pre-highlight the panel lines.  It showed up finally on this build.  I was having such a difficult time trying to accomplish this.  I'm glad I got a hold on this technique.

Below you'll find the very last of the ordinance in place of which are the AIM-9L's.  As I mentioned previously, I know I'm not supposed to load up the Harrier like this but with all the ordinance available I just couldn't resist.  There's still four more spruces that are still in bags of ordinance that I have not need to touch nor open.  Thank you so very much for your support through my short tenure on FSM Forums (I've been here 1 year and 8 months) and am still learning.  Thank you for all of your support and the visit to my threads!

Thank you very much goldhammer.  Highly appreciate your comments to my build.  The smaller space just takes me sometime to get used to but it's working out just fine.  Every time I do something I have to plan ahead, that's all.  Thank you so much for your support.

Your belief in me has inspired me to forge ahead.  Once again thank you!

Thank you WannabeFarmboy.  You're very kind sir.  I got a lot of help on this build from fermis.  He did a fantastic job on his Harrier.  I just tried to keep up with him.  But it wasn't so.  LOL!

Toshi,

Nice job on the Harrier!  I must admit that the ordnance on most modern jets is what keeps me away from them.  You've done an outstanding job here.

Meanwhile, I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but have you looked at putting up wall shelves for your models?  I am thinking of the rail with insertable supports you can mount directly to the wall.  I looked for a picture of these, but couldn't find them.  Or just go to your local Home Depot / Lowes hardware store, buy some brackets and some lumber and make your own.  Would add a bit more storage space.  Smile

Wishing you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving!

Gary

To GAF,

Your very kind words humble me.  I'm most appreciatetive on such glowing comments.  I don't normally do modern aircraft as well but I just had to have a Harrier in my growing collection.  It's just such an awesome aircraft and it looks so cool.  Like you, I too am weary of all the ordinance.  But once you attach everything for it's final reveal, it enhances the model.

I was thinking about shelving but my bench is so close to the wall front and back in that I could not get into my work area.  I would be bumping into the shelves.  Hence my new way of hanging my models flat on the wall.  Plus my daughter thinks it's so cool.

GAF, thank you for your support and the read and replies!  And to you also, have a "Happy Thanksgiving"!

That Harrier kit is quite a large bird! I really like that aircraft and have seen it at airshows in the past. Extremely loud which makes its performance all the better.

Hello roger_wilco!  It's good to hear from you.  The Trumpeter 1/32 Harrier kit is big.  More like a monstrosity!  LOL!  Seeing the actual Harrier live must have been an amazing sight.

I would have loved to see a Harrier in person but sadly, it's not the case.  Seeing the Harrier during it's vertical takeoff and landing must have been mind blowing!  Thank you so much for your support in my projects as well as the read and reply!

To my fellow forum members,

I wish you all a very "Happy Thanksgiving" tomorrow.  If you're traveling, please be safe especially if you're driving.  And do not drive and drink!  Be merry and happy and know that in one way or another that we are all blessed.  It is a time to be thankful for everything.

I just put together the largest drop tanks (Fuel tanks) I've ever seen.  Still, they do look very cool on the Harrier.  I've read that the Harrier can only fly for short distances, I guess it needs these large drop tanks and needs to be fueled in the air for long missions.

I know I shouldn't technically be putting this much ordinance on the Harrier build as it would not be able to vertically take off nor take off on short or a long distance run way.  LOL!  I still have two AIM-9L's to install so I'll have another update then.  That will be my completed photos.  Thank you all for stopping by and once again, have a "Happy Thanksgiving" tomorrow.

In all seriousness putting in 8 to 10 hours of work for a commission (On just ordinance) can be challenging.  I'll never get to know what's that like as I'm still just a baby in this hobby.  I do see with the high standards of quality you expect that this; "The last part" will be the most tedious for as you so described in your top thread reply.  Thank you for that, I never knew the extent that goes into building and completing ordinance of this caliber.

Yes...you may ask!Propeller

Because I hate it, real hard!

Mainly, it's the monotony of it...especially when there's a lot. Just a couple is no big deal, but when you have ALL of them...two projects at the same time doesn't help...BLLUUUGGGHHHHH. I feel like I have done nothing but mess with the 33 pieces of ordnance for the past week.

Building them...Cool

Clean up/sanding...Tongue Tied

Painting...Cool

Masking for color rings...Indifferent

Glossing...Confused

Decals...Super AngryBang Head AngryBlack Eye

Gloss/seal...Indifferent

Wash/weather...Confused

Final install...Cool

The other thing is...by the time I get to the ordnance, being the last thing...I'm ready to be done with the model.

LOL!  Cat's do have that attitude and perspective of life.  LOL!

As for this hobby and FSM forum, I agree with your entire statement.  This is a fantastic forum with even a more fantastic group of individuals; "My second family"!

Good show, sir!

We had the same weather here...73 on Friday(new record), then a blizzard last night. Piled up to an inch and a half, then was already melted away when we left the restaurant. 32 for todays high. Crazy!

Toshi

fermis is building the same exact kit on his thread as I am.  At least that's what I thought so until last night.  He mentioned that his kit did not come with any rails to accompany his ordinance.  So I thought I was in trouble due to this issue.  To my surprise, I noticed an extra insert in the assembly book that contained the instructions on how to assemble all the ordinance to the rails then to the Harrier itself.

Mine is the earlier version that doesn't have the big "wart" on top of the nose. I believe there's also a difference in the LEX's(???...is that what they're called?)...the rounded dealies at the front of the wings/fuselage.

Yes, the weather is absolutely out of control!  LOL!

fermis, I am most honored in that you gave me such a compliment on my Harrier build.  You are a phenom of a master modeler and that coming from you makes me most humbled.  If it wasn't for your assistance on this Harrier WIP, I don't think it would have turned out correctly.  Of course I've been utilizing your Harrier WIP as a example of what a true model in your hands should look like.  Thank you for the support, help, and read and replies you've given me.  I am most appreciative of this!

Toshi

P.S. I didn't realize those differences you pointed out in the two Harriers we are building.  That's a very interesting fact.

fermis is building the same exact kit on his thread as I am.

Wow, Toshi! Looking excellent, my friend!

I am most honored and humbled that you would consider my Harrier WIP build as excellent.  Thank you so much for everything as I definately would not have advanced without your help as well as the help of FSM forum members.

Do you remember my Academy M1 Abrams tank build?  I learned so much from you during that build.  We went back and forth in real time trying to highlight and weather the Abrams.  Ever since then, I've been trying to improve on that technique that you've taken the valuable time to teach me! I will never forget that, once again, thank you M.Brindos!

This is typical Ohio crazy weather!  On Friday the 18th, it was 71 degrees and I did some AB outside on the patio.  It was a very lovely day.  On Saturday the 19th, we had hail, snow storm, and temps in the 30's!  I thought the snow wouldn't stick due to the ground being too warm.  Boy, was I wrong.  Today, everything is blanketed in white.  I definately won't be AB outside!  LOL!  Thank's to my portable paint booth, the only thing that'll stick outside is the air vent.  LOL!

fermis is building the same exact kit on his thread as I am.

When I carefully checked all of the required spruces, there it was.  Every single rail needed to comply with the ordinance.  I have come to the conclusion that this is an updated kit.  Some of the step by step insert instructions are printed on another piece of paper and crudely glued onto the updated insert page sheets.

I have photos below of the Harrier from VMF-311 Tomcat.  I, being a cat fanatic had to have the Sylvester the cat decal on the tail.  It looks like Sylvester is riding a bomb.  How cool is that!  I also chose this squadron as the tail is painted black.  It offsets all this gray and really brings out the detail of the Harrier.  Today, I'm going to spray a Model Master flat coat #4636 onto  the aircraft  to seal  in the decals. Then it's a wash followed by the attachment of the ordinance as im going to load the Harrier up with everything possible.  Please view the disclosed photos of the updated kit assembly.  Thank you so much for visiting and supporting my build thread!

Toshi

Here's the GUB-12 with rail.  There will be two sets of three GUB-12's to total 6 all together.  This will look really cool.  I'll also be adding two huge fuel tanks and a pair of AIM-9L's.

I tried to copy the fermis technique in (Det Cord) that you do a quarter inch at a time and lightly wipe away the excess with your finger.  I tried that four times without success.  Each time it got worst.  LOL!  Sorry fermis, I did try my best.  Also I did use craft acrylic paint as per his recommendation.

I finally just held my breath literally and took a very small brush and hand painted the detail in with Testors white enamel.  It's not perfect yet I think once it gets mounted on the frame and attached to the cockpit, it should look somewhat exceptable.  I hope?  LOL!  Honestly, I was disappointed in not being able to follow fermis instructions.  I don't know what I did wrong.  But I did correct the issue at hand so here is the canopy with the Det Cord hand painted in.

I did some of the AB portion on the patio last night.  Yes it was that nice especially during this time of year during mid-November part of which is very rare.  Today is supposed to be in the high 60's with tomorrow's temps breaking records within the 70's.  Wow!  More work on the Harrier can be carried on outside on the patio.

I'll spend today cleaning up the Harrier and applying the decals.  Then it's time to seal it in.

The primer makes evident lots of nice surface detail on that kit. Yes

The primer did do well on the Harrier build.  I used the Tamiya gray Lacquer Primer for this aircraft.  It turned out really well in my humble opinion.  Next up is the main color and the camoflauge.  Thank you for the read and reply!

WOW what a beautifully detailed kit . You're doing a stunning job on it as well and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest .

Yes, uncle Jay Jay.  The Trumpeter kits are always beautifully detailed interior and exterior wise.  Next to Tamiya and Zoukei Mura, Trumpeter is probably my next favorite kit to build.  I've seen that Trumpeter also has a 1/32 P-38 Lightning kit that I just might be interested in.  I'll have to wait and see.

Thank you for the compliment, I don't know that it's; "Stunning" as you mentioned but I gave it all my best.  It's definately a very nice kit to build.  Looking forward, I have some small detailed parts to glue and the application of decals.  Thank you for always supporting my builds and visiting my WIP threads.

This is what was done from this morning.  I still need to clean things up yet I'm very pleased with the outcome of the AB process of the fueselage.  I'm planning on painting the tail black.  After that I'll add the camoflauge to the top of the wing.

From that point, I'll apply the decals, seal it in, and work on the canopy last.  Please enjoy the photos below and thank you forum members for your support in my Harrier WIP thread.

Mike

Thank you so much Buckeye.  I'm most humbled by your very kind words.  Especially coming back from a four week break in building a kit, well for that matter any kit!  LOL!  The move did delay my building of the Trumpeter Harrier model.

I've learned to appreciate and respect even more so now having this hobby almost taken away from me due to the move in regards to space constraints.  Thank you so much for the read and reply.

Greg

That looks like a super-fun kit. Again, great to see you back and building in your new quarters, Toshi.

Been meaning to comment on the beautiful cockpit, stuff kept popping up and now it's a bit late, but, I love that cockpit!

Can I come over for Heads-up-display assembling lessons? Yours looks great, mine look like crap. Every time.

Hello Greg, it's so nice to hear from you and it feels fantastic to be finally back on FSM forum with a Harrier WIP.  Thank you Greg, I made a couple of mistakes on the cockpit but I'm pleased with the overall finish with it, especially the IP.

With your support as well as FSM forum members, I was able to learn how to correct these errors and move forward with this build.  As for things"Popping up", I want to thank you for your inclusion of my WIP in your very busy schedule.  And you're never late to any of my threads!  LOL!

I don't think your cockpit looks bad at all, I think it's quite the opposite.  As for coming over, I would be estactic to have you over!  LOL!  In all seriousnes, it would bring me great pleasure if you did come over.  We can have coffee and or tea, talk shop, I'll even cook a meal for us, and you'll get to meet Mrs. Toshi.  That would be a very exciting day.  You're always welcome as well as other FSM forum members!

Looking good, Toshi. It's nice watching you take on increasingly challenging builds. I need to add a Harrier to the stash.

BK

Thank's BrandonK.  I must agree in that this is a challenging build for me and a big one too at 1/32.  LOL!  As fermis has pointed out, there are some very minor discrepancies but he is a very skilled master modeler.  He can scratch build a part better than the original pieces.

I on the other hand do not have the ability to scratch build.  What I did was to modify the flawed part with some sanding and cutting.  That's the only way I could build this kit and there was only one piece that needed modification.

I am excited for you in that you will add a Harrier to your stash.  This is a really cool plane.  I did not know that the Harrier is still in service until 2025.  That's pretty amazing for a 70's designed aircraft.  BrandonK, thank you for always supporting my builds and visiting my WIP threads.

Your model building is very impressive, Toshi.  And, I see you are now working on your photos with a graphics program to add text.  Might I suggest that you keep the text out of the subject area?  I may be the only one afflicted with this, but it confuses my eyes when it is on or near the model.

I'm most honored that such an esteemed FSM forum member like you would be impressed by my Harrier build as I've only been doing this for one year and eight months.  Thank you as I've only progressed this far due to learning from you and other forum members.

I just found out how to use the graphic text yesterday.  It was fun adding something in that was different.  Still, I completely agree with you as it does distract from the main subject of which is the kit itself.  Thank you so much for always visiting and supporting my projects!

Planning the next step of this Harrier build, I used fermis's WIP Harrier as a base on what direction I should be going in.  I'm extremely greatfull of his assistance with my build as this has helped me so much.  Thank you fermis!

I've also learned through many mistakes to utilize photos on the Internet of which Mrs. Toshi helps me with for examples on how this build should look.  What was really cool is that last night I got to see True Lies playing on HBO. This is one of the major ideas, reasons, and inspirations in building a Harrier kit.  Plus you've got to love a jet the can do a vertical takeoff and landing.

Watching True Lies for the umpteenth time, I never bore of the Harrier scene.  At the very least, I was able to see what I was doing wrong and how to correct any issues to the best of my abilities.  What you see above is what was done last night as well as this mornings bench time.  I've got several doctors appointments so I won't be able to do anything else with this kit until the early evening.  Thank you forum members for your dedication in following my builds!

Toshi

P.S. The Eduard PE is really a great and accurate representation of what the parts and pieces it replaces should look like.  For anyone interested in building this kit with an aftermarket Eduard PE set, the set number is 32673.

Following along as usual. Vertical/Short/Takeoff(and)/Landing aircraft have always fascinated me as well. I keep wondering when the POGO will go into production ???? Oops, I just dated myself - as if my user name doesn't Embarrassed

P.S. If they'd had computerized avionics and rear view cameras back in '66 I bet the XFY-1 VTO might have come in handy when the UH-1 Hueys were in short supply.

Thank's to the support from FSM forum members like you I had to find a way to return to the hobby albeit it took a good month to figure this out.  LOL!  Thank you for sharing this information in regards to the XFY-1 VTO.  I had no idea.  It's good to be back with my FSM family members!

Tanker - Builder

Hey Toshi !

Glad to see that Bird on your new bench . I told you it would all work out . I build these mostly in 1/144 .

Now gotta tell you why . My first missus bought me one of the original 1/144 kits pre 1980 . It was fun to do . But after I finished arming it up she called it the " Mad Mosquito " on her coffee table ! So I have at least one in this scale all bombed and armed up in her memory . Gotta have a " Mad Mosquito " somewhere in my build area . It makes me smile !

Have to tell you this too . I have six "O" scale rail-road buildings and three ships under construction in my area . One is a 1/96 scale monster too ! . Catchya Later  T.B.           P.S. Remember My build area is half of a five foot folding table now .

Thank you for your support in this past move for me.  It has given me a whole new perspective/outlook into space saving techniques.  This is such a great hobby especially if you can have a ; "Mad Mosquito" in memory of your missus.  That is so touching.  Thank you for sharing that.

I can't comprehend how you build all of that on half of a five foot table.  That's just amazing.  Thank you so much for the read and reply as well, I so enjoy these interactions and look forward to this each day!

Ah, Toshi-San

The Main Modeling Man, great to see you back at the bench, and just a few weeks ago you were thinking you might have to quit.

You're right, that Pegasus is quite an engine, it fills a lot of space inside the airframe. Looking forward to watching this one grow in the Toshi model garden, thanks for the post. Always a good day, when I get to see what Toshi is up to currently.

Build on.

Patrick

I am very happy and greatfull to be back again.  It brings me great joy to be able to converse with you and fellow forum members.  As for me, it's always a good day to see your visit on my WIP.  Thank you patrick206!

Thanks to fermis, I was able to get through an issue with the nose gear.  As you see above, fermis went into detail with the part number to be trimmed for a better fit and finish.  The nose gear actually has a plastic type of spring loaded mechanism that allows it to move forward and backwards like the real Harrier.  Pretty cool!

Build on.

I had to trim part #E12 a bit, to get it to fit into the slot of the "fork" E46. Just a little, along the bottom edge of the "blade" portion.

Thanks for the tip, I just trimmed that part.  Once again thank you so much!

The nose gear is one of the most strongest landing gears I've ever built.  It reminds me of the Revell/Monogram 1/48 B-24 Liberator's front landing gear.  Just extremely sturdy that you could almost put the full weight of the model on and then some.

I have included an exploded view of the assembly parts of the Harrier nose gear cabin.

Also...when it comes time to put the wings on. There is a gap at the bottom where the wings meet the fuselage. I cut lengths of sprue and wedged em in, spreading/widening the fuselage, to meet the wing.

I will definately look out for this issue and will correct that with your valuable information.  Thank you so much fermi!

Yeah, there's a lot there that will never be seen. I skipped on all the extra stuff...just painted the inside of the rear section, as that is the only bit that can be seen, if you contort your eyeball!Stick out tongue

FYI...the rings on the rear of the engines, that the exhaust nozzles attach to, wedge in between the fuselage and engine(held in place once fuselage is assembled)...no glue required. That way the nozzles can be positioned/moved as you see fit.

fermis, you are a wealth of knowledge.  Thank you so much for this information.  I highly regard this as important as the knowledge you have in your builds.  I'm glad you mentioned that the rings for the vertical takeoff needed not be cemented.  I was wondering about that as I left that unglued.  Once again, thank you sir!

Boy, does Trumpeter really love their engines!  This engine is all OOB in detail.  What surprises me is the level of detail that will not be seen as it will be encased in the fuselage.  But, isn't that what most detailed models do?

Unless a modeler is extremely skilled and will perform scratch building and open up some panels exposing the engine details, that will be the only example to be able to view such intricate building techniques.  I for one am not skilled enough to do such work albeit I can vicariously live such scratch building through other master modelers scratch building here on FSM Forums.

Still, ultimately the assembly process was very difficult and inspiring at that same time plus, most importantly I had a great time with this.  Although no one will see this, I am going to AB and weather this monster of an engine.  Please view my progress below and thank you for visiting my post!

Here is the start of the engine.  I assumed that the engine would be large especially in 1/32.  What I didn't expect was how large.  LOL!

Thank you Griffin25.  The blue screens are aftermarket Eduard PE.  The only thing of the IP that's part of the kit is the IP's base.  Everything else you see is from the Eduard PE set #32673.  Thank you so much for the visit!

Glad your back Toshi......True Lies was a classic..

I'm so happy to be back!  I miss making kits but I miss you and all of the forum members.  I so enjoy these conversations.  Every time we move, the surround sound system needs to get broken down.  Upon set up, I always calibrate the speakers using the scene from Matrix where Keanu Reaves "Neo" is in the Huey chopper saving Morpheus.  Trinity is the pilot.

For shear intensity the machine gun and the helicopter crash scene is what I use to see if the subwoofer is set up right.  Then I use the scene in True Lies of where the two Harriers intertwine and shoot their missiles at the bridge.  I love to use that as a test scene as that test scene puts emphasis on the left, center, right, rear left, and rear right surround speakers as the missiles are launched and the two Harriers fly their tandem patterns.  If everything is set up right, you can hear the missiles fly around you and hear the jets move around the room.  As you stated; "True Lies was a classic"!  I must agree with you on that note!

To Bish,

Finally!  This was one of the last rooms to do.  I too love this subject as I still recall this jets performance in a movie called True Lies.  I just loved the concept of a VSTOL aircraft and thought how cool it would be to build one!  Thank you for the read and reply!

Isn't that always the case. I am now finally in my own model den after years of building in the dinning room.

You can always trust the Brits to come up with something special. Wink

Yes, the OG Sidley Harrier was an amazing innovation.  You Brits really made a fantastic aircraft and a cool one at that.

This will not be as big of a model as your F-4G that fell and was destroyed recently. The Harrier is maybe 2/3 the size of the Phantom.

Thank you sir.  It's actually a wall that separates the model/niche room from the stairs hence you're correct on both counts.  Yes, it scares both Mrs. Toshi and I!  LOL!  I have to find room for these planes somehow.  Thanks for the read and reply.
