Looking Good Toshi.  Is this a tailsitter or did they include a weight or "prop"?

Oh, it's definitely a tail sitter and not something that was included with the kit.  But that's ok as I'm hanging it from my wall of fame (Planes)!  LOL!  Thanks for the visit!

These last several days I'd had to step back and get some much needed rest.  So I decided that I'll do some bench time a little at a time.  This proves tedious yet relaxing as it seems the last 250 parts are what constitutes the finality of the build.

Things attended to were the four radiator intakes at 12 pcs each and there's four.  And then there are the smallest of details that take time and I just don't want to rush it.  Just to finish it.  At each step as usual, things must be cleaned up.  So here are some of the latest photos of the lightning in it's current status.  Thank you for your patience!

Hi scottrc, it's good to see you too!!!  Thank you for your very kind words.  I too like the way the engines have turned out hence my decision to cut the top cowling off to display the engines.

I'm going to leave the turbocharger panels off too as they look really detailed.  And I'm opening up the cockpit to show off the details done.  Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it.

To my fellow forum members,

Mrs. Toshi and I have been very busy with our grandson.  So this explains my absence for a few days.

This evening I got the chance to spray the P-38 with some Tamiya Gray Laqcuer Primer.  You can see that the first photo is just of the P-38 without primer.  The second and third photos are with primer.  I will be spraying the Lightning with Model Master Chrome Silver Enamel FS17178.  Thank you for the visit.

Toshi, do some tests with the Chrome Silver first.  It takes forever to dry.

That's a great idea!  I'll do that first thing tomorrow and see how it cures.  Thank you for watching my back, I greatly appreciate it!

This is what makes FSM Forum such a great place to be.  Everyone here is my second family to me.  I love you all for this.  jeaton01 made sure in that I won't make a horrible mistake spraying MM Chrome Silver FS17178.  This enamel paint just looks fantastic but has a habit of taking a long time to cure.  jeaton01 got my back!

I do have experience with this paint as I used this on my Monogram 1/48 Visible B-17G.  That took a week to dry, well actually it took 3 days as I took photos of the B-17G after letting it cure for 2 days and I did a photo shoot of it for FSM Magazines.  Then I left it alone for a week and it turned out perfect.  Well not so perfect as I only had been building models for six months at that time frame.

To my surprise it actually made it into the digital showcase.  But this is not why I'm writing this, jeaton01 reached out to me and took the time and effort to ensure that I won't fail.  jeaton01 I want to once again, thank you for this.  You see, that's what makes FSM Forums such a great place to be, maybe the number one place to be.  In my humble opinion, this is the best place to be.

I say this as I notice when anyone has a question, it is replied within a few minutes.  And these answers come from well seasoned experienced long time pro modelers, of whom create works of arts.  What more can you ask for.  And then there's forum members from every building level sharing their work in progress (WIP) in the many categories and genres of modeling.  What happens next is that the most positive engaging comments from many forum members answer with encouragement and or how to do something better or easier comes about.  That is just so cool.

For those members that are new, I had a terrible accident at work in which I have Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI) I don't remember what I did yesterday, half the time I have no idea what I'm doing, but when I sit down to model and follow the directions, I end up being focused for a short while.  I had 250 pounds of board hit me down to a concrete floor.  I was found buried and in a coma.  I was in a coma for a week.  When I came to, I had no idea what had happened and who I was.  Hence my insane quick building time frame.  Time has know meaning to me.  I don't know what day or time it is.  I build at such pace as I don't want to forget what I am doing.

You see modeling at the very first for me was a therapy project.  When the therapist gave me a model (Testors 1/72 Corsair) I went ballistic, I did not want to build models.  I had to be subdued and chemically enhanced to calm me down.  Upon arising from this incident I told my self to calm down.  I went over to the Corsair and immediately started building this kit, it took me three days.  This Corsair is my avatar.

The therapist told me it's good for my cognitive, fine hand motor skills, and many more neurological issues.  I actually started to remember my child hood when I built models.  So with encouragement from Mrs. Toshi I went with her to Hobby Lobby (I was living at the brain injury facility called MENTIS which was literally next door) and purchased the Revell 1/48 P-61 Black Widow and bought every PE available from eBay and resin parts as well.  This was my first WIP on FSM Forums.

Because of my first purchase of this Black Widow I also bought my first tools and misc. items needed from Hobby Lobby.  When I ordered my AM items via eBay, the therapists were so impressed, I was sent home immediately.  I was so happy to be home again!  It felt like I was in prison at MENTIS.  Don't get me wrong the people at MENTIS were wonderful people as they really took care of me.  But you just don't know how much I wanted to be home and sleep in my own bed.

In conclusion, all members here are such great individuals helping each other in this digital community that spans the world over.  I realize, I'm just a humble builder, glueing styrene plastic together.  I watch masters of this art form perform such amazing pieces of art.  I want to thank you all for helping me in this road to recovery and also helping me to find myself with a hobby that I'm so excited to have!

As a newcomer here, I just wanted to comment on your amazing story and to thank you for sharing. I'm always interested in seeing what you're up to here, and I inferred there was a theraputic aspect, but I didn't quite put everything together.

Oh, and that P38 is looking really great! Looking forward to seeing it come to fruition.

Cheers

I remember you mentioned a while back about getting injured at work but didn't know the details. You are very lucky to be alive. I'm sorry that you went thru that and wish you the best. It sucks when we get injured and sometimes wonder how one survived.

Have you considered Alclad or even the new AK Extreme Metal paints? The AK product goes on unpainted plastic for maximum metallic effect and is a bit easier to apply than Alclad.

Hey Toshi,

I think you sell yourself short.  I have watched every WIP you have done since I started with this forum, and even went back to see some of your work from before I started.  You sir, despite the TBI, do wonderful work, and are an inspiration.  This forum is a wonderful resource for learning, and I have learned from watching your builds and comments as well as from others.  So thanks for posting your WIP builds.

Cheers,

Dman

[quote]Yes, I'm very lucky that I'm alive.  The doctors all said that most people would die from such an accident.  I did not know about that until I recovered.  I had know memory of these years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013.  I got injured on, 5/5/2010.

I want to try Alclad.  Every one on FSM Forums, speak highly of Alclad.  I'll also look into AK.  Thank you for the tips.  Also thank you for visiting my WIP thread.

Dman, your thoughts touches my heart.  Thank you so much for your support.  I didn't know that you went back to my older threads to see my work.  Thank you!  It is my pleasure to do WIP threads on my builds.  My first WIP was the Revell/Monogram, Black Widow.

I also had fun on that build, as I had ordered PE and resin parts for that build.  I think I was way over my head!  LOL!  Thank you for everything!

Thank you PlasticJunkie!  Yes, the P-38 is huge.  The wing span from tip to tip is 19 inches long and from the gun tips to the back tail is 14 inches long.

I've been busy with my grandson.  He just left to visit his other grandparents in Columbus, Ohio.  He will be gone for four days.  That'll give me some time to work on the ordinance on the P-38.

I'm going for two drop tanks and ten rockets.  That'll make this lightning look mean And awesome!  Until then, here is my current update of my lightning build.
