Everything is pinned and secured to the base. The figures add an idea of scale.
Near the end, due to lack of material and time most of the planes that were assembled by the Germans often times had no paint and went on to fight in NMF as shown here with this Me-262. Click on the images for closeups.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Finished painting both figures. I had forgotten about the great looking figures Monogram used to include in their kits. I just hit them with an oil wash so i will shoot some clear flat tomorrow and then will be mounted on the base.
Got sidelined by other things but finally got some work done. I used some very thin wire wrapped around a mini drill bit to make the spring for the canopy hold open wire.
EZ line was inserted into the tiny spring and super glued in place. The HF extra hands jig are a great help in aligning things.
Hold open wire in place along with some scratched out belts made from wine foil and left over pe parts. Aerial wire is EZ line and a pleasure to work with.
Got the wheels pinned and glued down to the plank surface. The flash reflected off the Floquil Silver and looks lighter than how it actually is.
The figures are next. Got them cleaned up and shot them with Floquil Engine Black enamel as a primer/pre shading coat.

I keep my models in closed glass cabinets but some dust works its way in. Like Bish, I use my ab to gently blow some of the junk off.
blackdog62 Man this is really nice work. Question though how do you dio builders keep the shrubs dust free with out busting them. I'm trying to plan mine without them for the same reason I button up my canopy dusting and breaking things.

Every so often i take my airbrush to my bases to remove dust and so on. I also use a dusting brush and just swipe it over gently. Unfortunatly i don't have cabinets for my models, so i try and dust often to stop it building up.
Thanks Mark. Very happy that you like hoe the dio is coming out.
Plane looks awesome, and so does the base. Great work!
Cheers, Mark

Thanks dog and mopar.
The PPP is pretty easy to work with and if it gets hard in the tube, add a few drops of water and shake it. Let it sit for a while and add more water if needed and it's like new again.
Ok, I really like that hardstand airfield dio! Nicely detailed "stained" wood!
"Can you fly this plane and land it?...Surely you can't be serious....I am serious, and don't call me Shirley"
Thanks fellas for the nice compliments. I see the finish line getting closer.
That is a really terrific effort you have put into your 262. Fine example of applying the panel line effects. It just looks sharp and clean. I like it. I am also very impressed with your base. Indeed, Bish is quite an inspiration for those and you've produced one fine example. I'm looking forward to the finished product.

Lovely job on the base PJ, love the look of the wood.
Cool project PJ! Lookin' really good!

Very nice work PJ, well done.
Apart from a stellar start to your build, the diorama base is excellent.
Keep up the brilliant work.
I finished the base by adding vegetation and some oil stains on the planks.
Mixed up some dark brown oil paint and thinner for the oil stains.
Thanks for the nice compliments Martin.
Super work so far....I love the "sealed" panel line effect and great work on the base.
Cheers

The base was started. I have several made of wood scraps from previous woodworking projects. A while back I bought lots of wood strips at HL which I use as paint stirrers and planking.
Sliced up a buch of strips and began to lay down the planking with Elmers glue.
Planks are down and glued. Craft acrylics were ued to tint the planking alternating colors. Next will be Woodland Scenics dirt and vegetation and weeds between the planks.
I also applied the decals and landing gears.Once the 262 is completed, it will be mounted to the plaking by pinning the wheels. I just may use the included German figures as part of the dio.
Thanks Nick! Glad you like how it's turning out.
nice work on that old kit very unique .
Nick.
Thanks Bish and TJ.
Working on the base now. Would love to add a couple of GIs looking around as in some pictures I have seen but I don't believe I have any in 1/48 scale. Have to go thru my spares junk to see what I have if any.
