I’ve tried both. My personal experience is that silly putty is alittle too pliable. It has been kinda of mess for me to take off. My blue tack did get very stiff and dry but I used some hand soap and water with some kneading it softened up nicely used it on the mosquito

 

That's what I like about it.  It fits into all the little nooks and crannies.  I couldn't have gotten into small slits that I just did if I used blue tack.  

Walmart has it, Target has it.  You can buy a pound of it on Amazon for like 25 bucks.  Abeiltung sells a variation of it for about 15 bucks, though I prefer the silly putty as it's cheaper.

Thank you Peaches!  I had thought about it, but haven't run into any of it at the stores.  In fact I can't remember the last time I seen silly putty in a store.  If I do find some I will pick it up and give it a try.  The poster tack works pretty well once you stretch it thin enough.

Keyda, that's an amazing build, I hope my F-15 looks as good when it comes out.  ANd have you thought about Silly Putty instead of blue tack?  I find that the Silly putty is a lot more pliable (I masked a part of it off that was almost .5mm thick and it worked out perfectly)as well as it doesn't dry out.

Greatmaker, Thank you, yes it is!  I was pleasently surprised when I pulled all the masking off the clear parts and found no bleed.  I was expecting something that would need attention.

Thanks Eagle90!  I'm sorry for your loss.  I can not imagine losing my hubby.  He drives me nuts sometimes, but I'd be lost without him!  I keep telling him to quit smoking, and exercise, lol.  I'm afraid to lose him to soon like I did my Dad.  He was only 62 and I seen him the evening before and he seemed fine.  You just never know sometimes I guess.

Hey Keyda, I've been off on a different path and project lately and I just caught back up on your post. All looking good! Having got to stick my head in the cockpit of the museum display of Flak Bait and looking out the cockpit window, your model has special meaning to me and I'm sure others about the past mission of this specimen and the men who flew it. Good work and good subject to project History with modeling.

Sorry to hear about your lose.  I speak strength and peace for you and your family.  I lost my wife in 2015 and man...once I got back into building, it REALLY helped me emotionally, so good for you jumping back in (in the right time of course). 

Looks terrific! I hear ya on the de-masking.  It's like christmas, at least for me. Sometimes you get a nice present and sometimes you get a lump of coal.
