Toshi

You did a great job on “Flak Bait”!  Congratulations on a job well done.

Toshi

Ditto  That came out really well.  Your weathering looks good to me, but hey, who cares, as long as you like it!  Nice to see you were able to get the bench time to finish this.  Congrats.

I have always been fond of WWII bomber's and your's is a gem!

Nobody said you had to weatherize it to look like it was returning from it's 200 mission.

I think you got the oil and grease on the engine's "JUST RIGHT"!

( Just say it's on it's way to her 100th mission.)

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

1943Mike, I was terrified that I was going to have issues with all that masking, but it worked out really well and there wasn't much to clean up!  Tooth picks are a must on my bench!  I used to put them back in the drawer when I wasn't using them, but I got annoyed having to open the drawer for another one every few minutes, so now they just stay on the bench!

Thanks so much Jay Jay!  I did use poster tack, you can't really see it buried under the masking tape, lol.  It works great!  I just get mad when it stick to my fingers instead of the plane, I found a little bit of water on the tips of my fingers helps with that.

roony, yea you are probably right, but sometimes I get a little carried away, so I figured less is more in this case!

I finished up with "Flak Bait" this afternoon.  Here's a whole bunch of pics!

Had a lot of fun building this bird.  I figured if any subject was good to try some weathering on it was the famous "Flak Bait".  Now comes the nerve racking part of hanging her on the wall.Indifferent

A very productive Sunday.  The ship flew over 200 missions, I don't think chipping & oil stains could be over done.

As a huge fan of the B-26 I must say that you're doing a beautful job on the Flak Bait.  i built this same kit and felt that am masking was a must and I admire you for doing it by hand.

No problems about your take on the "beating up"  techniques as I've seen pics of these B-26's even a lot more beat up than yours...good job there as well.

The horrible fit and seams have disappeared under your capable hands .Well done there .

A tip from your Uncle Jay ;  In the future you may want to try masking the demarcation lines with worms of poster tack. It's much easier and re-useable too.I got mine for cheap at one of those "party" stores.

Keyda,

Looks like your masking worked out well and I think it's coming together very nicely.

Looking more closely at your pictures reminds me I must head up the street to Walmart for more toothpicks .. and Q-tips.

Thanks Hunter!

Got the decals on the Marauder, officially making her "Flak Bait"

Did some touch ups, pulled masking, and attached the front landing gear.

I'm done for today.  Hopefully I can finish her up tomorrow.

I've made leaps and bounds on the Marauder today.  It's a crappy Sunday, so I've spent pretty much all day at the bench.

Underside painted neutral grey.

It felt like it took 2 hours to mask it off!

Top side olive drab.

All the masking peeled off.  Always a very nerve racking part for me, lol.

Some chipping and scratches added all over the place, lol.  Hope I didn't go overboard.

Just taped the cowlings/props on to see how they look.

Added some oil and grime in places, again hoping I didn't go overboard.  I seen a B-17 over the summer, and honestly that thing was loaded in oil, it was just about everywhere!

Clear coated, getting ready for decals!

Thanks Shipwreck, Hunter!

Gamera, Exactly!  I've been through a few rounds of working on the same spot, and seams just don't want to cooperate!

Thanks Toshi!

Devil Dawg, hopefully, lol.  Once I get this finished up it's on to a different type of transportation.

JOE RIX, Thank you!  It does feel good to be back at the bench having some kind of progress.  Keeps me occupied!

Terrific progress. Smashing job on your weathering. I hope you are having fun with giving those techniques a try. You certainly seem to have a firm grasp of the idea.

Mainly, I do hope that sitting down at your bench and making some progress on the B-26 is raising your spirits and bringing you some serenity.

Making progress, Miss Keyda! Before you know it, you'll be done with it, and it'll be basking in glory sitting on your display shelf!

Thanks Devil Dawg!

I got a coat of primer on her a few days ago.  There is a lot of work to be done, lol.  I'm not going to drive myself crazy and try to get everything perfect but I'll do my best.

This is also my first crack at doing some weathering.  Hope I'm doing alright.  This is basically trial and error for me at this point.  I used some Tamiya smoke to dirty up the wheels, engine, and prop hubs.  Then used some chrome silver on the props to look like chips and scratches.

Second coat of primer and still more work to be done, lol.

Lookin' good, Miss Keyda! The B-26 was a pretty design to my eyes. Looking forward to seeing the finished product here.

Thanks Toshi!

ManCityFan, Thank you.  It's been hard to find time, and the desire to get back to the bench.  I have the desire, now it's just finding the time!

JOERIX, thank you.  I'm going to try and get a coat of primer on it today.  I'm sure it is going to bring out all the flaws I need to work on.  Then I'll just have to start in the front and work my way back!

I've got to give you high marks on patience Keyda. Your masking work is very nicely done. I am a fan of Plastic Putty also but, I do not use it exclusively. I'm sure looking forward to you getting some paint on the Marauder.

Hey Keyda, somehow I lost this thread.  Just a couple of days ago, I was thinking that you had not posted in a while.  Now I know why.  My condolences for your loss.

Glad to see you are back at the bench.  Looking forward to future updates on this project.  The masking is impressive.

Thanks Shipwreck!

MrStecks, thanks! I love the perfect plastic putty.  It is just so much easier to work with than anything else I've tried.  I usually make a giant mess with putty, and this stuff is easy to clean up.

Thank you Gamera.

Glad to see you back Keyda, and the Marauder is looking great.  Also, I switched over to Perfect Plastic Putty after following your F-117 WIP, and I love it.  I find it much easier to work with.  So... Thanks!  Smile

Cheers, Mark
