Nice work Keyda, you skill has really imporved over the time since you first started posting.  The Voodoo is one cool looking plane in camo.

Thanks Scott!  It really has.  I used to just throw them together when I first started.  I really do cringe at some of the first ones I've built.  I've become a lot more detail orientated now.  There is no point in rushing through it, cause it just turns out looking like crap, and I land up building another one cause I can't stand to look at the first one, lol.  I do like the camo paint jobs on most plane.  The Herc, Voodoo, Phantom, Skyraider, P-40, A-10.  Just to name a few.

Excellent build Keyda81, I too enjoy shooting the camoflauge AB freehand.  IMHO it gives the camoflauge a more convincing look.  And you hit it spot on!  I have a question?  What kind of AB do you have/use on your builds?  Also what type of compressor do you utilize and at what PSI did you shoot the camoflauge with?  Thank you in advance!

There's a C-119 on display at the local air base.  Along with a C-47, F-4, F-100, RF-101 and soon a C-130. 

 

 

What airbase are you near. As nice as museum aircraft are, gate guards aren't bad either.

 

Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.  Can't really see the C-119 or C-47 too well.  They are near the main entrance gate, but behind a mound of dirt.  The Phantom is farther on the base, and can only be seen from a distance.  The F-100 is near a rarely used entrance, and can be seen well.  On the opposite side of the base at another rarely used entrance is the F-101, it's the most visible of all their displays.  The Herc hasn't been moved to it's display area yet, so I'm not sure where it's going to end up.

VERY nice clean build there Keyda.  Your free hand camo is inspirational and something I have yet to try. Even though the masking of the canopy was a PITA as you say,you pulled it off and it looks great.

 

Thanks Jay Jay!  With the right airbrush it's pretty easy!  I couldn't of done it without my Iwata.  It was a pain, but worth the effort.  I brush painted in on the first Voodoo I did, and had less than nice results, lol.

1943Mike, Thanks!  They are a decent sized bird.  There is one on display at the local base, I think it's actually a recon Voodoo too, nose cone is different though.

Shipwreck, Thank you!  That's the goal, to improve with each one!  I did free hand the camo with the Iwata airbrush I have.  Paint booth is home made with corrugated plastic, and a dust collector that I run out the bedroom window.  It works fairly well.  You still end with a paint smell, but it's nothing to horrible.

Nice build Keyda. Those century series aircraft always look neat when finished. Your clean build makes it look even better.

Fine finish Keyda.

I'm always surprised as to how big the Voodo was. Not a small aircraft by any stretch of the imagination.

Turned out great.  Exhaust/heat stains look convincing.  

Landed up with a change in plans today, and didn't go work on my car.  So I spent the day working on the Voodoo instead.

Decals done.  They fought me most of the way too.  Thankfully I keep all unsed decals in a bin, I needed a few of them!

This masking about drove me insane.  I usually just use a paint brush, but I tried to refrain from doing that as much as possible with this build.

Used MM Metalizer paint under the tail.  Used four different colors, to give some variation.  Still learning the technique.

All finished up.

One with the Voodoo this one is replacing.  I did a horrible job on the first one, lol.  I've come a long way since then.  I know it doesn't look bad in the pic, but it's bad, trust me.

Spent the day painting the Voodoo.

Going to let it dry tomorrow while I go work on my car.  I'll get back to it sometime Monday.  Still have decals, weathering, final assembely and some painting to do, but I'm getting closer to the finish line.

The Yankee Air Force. Man, I recall many fun days there as a Civil Air Patrol Cadet in high school around the museum there. That B-52 is documented to have returned to Guam with an SA-2 SAM in its wingtip. Guess that made for some long pucker-factor minutes for the aircrew and ground crew. Also did an there airshow as an F-16 crew chief early in my military career.

There's also a F101 on static display outside Base Ops at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. I want to say it's in Canadian NORAD markings.

Got primer on the top and sides of the Voodoo.  I'm actually surprised, I usually find a whole ton of spots that I didn't see before that need work, but it's not that bad this time, lol.  There are still areas that need work though. 

This is my first time playing around with MM Metalizer in the airbrush.  Trying to up my game a little bit so to speak.  Instead of one shade on the exhaust I decided to play around and try to get some tonal differences and used 4 different colors.  Hopefully it looks more convincing than what I normally end up with. 

The rest of the fiddly bits primed/painted.

On to some putty and sanding!

In 1969, I was departing Spokane International Airport in a NW Airlines Lockheed Electra at the runway threshold, when two Washington State ANG F-101's took the runway. After sitting a few seconds, they both throttled up and immediately hit afterburners, rattling the windows in the Electra. I suppose they had to know what they had done and were just having a little fun. While working a spring break job in Spokane, I also saw the 101's roaring down the canyon valley, apparently below canyon rim level at 400+ knots, so close I could see their little helmeted heads bobbing in the cockpit.

 

That's awesome!  I think the most thrilling of aircraft moments with me was watching the departures from the airshow we had this year.  The F-15E that left took off and stayed super low to the runway I was watching through my camera, and knew he was making an exit that would be remembered by the group of us standing out there.  He pulled up right over our heads, and I'm surprised I didn't lose my hearing!  This is the shot I got and I'm not zoomed in.

fotofrank, Yikes!  I've seen two static display C-119's, but obviously neither one of them fly.  NFARS flew them from 1963-71, but that was before my time.  I would love to see some planes that are no longer in service fly.  I know that is impossible depending on the aircraft, but I can dream can't I?!  Lol.

The C-119 was so unloved by its pilots!

 

Back in the '60s, when I was in the Air Force, it was said that when you lost an engine in flight on a C-119, you were pretty much over the scene of the crash.
