Great work so far on your Spit. Your builds always turn out fantastic.

As for a Battle of Britain movie, there is an announced production of a new version of the movie, with Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down) slated to direct. IMDB does not show any information as to when this will be released.

Thanks Aggie, and that is great news!  I'll be first in line to see it.

I am done.  To recap, it's in the markings of 609 Squadron Frank Howell in August of 1940. Howell was a Dunkirk and Battle of Britain veteran who scored 5 kills and 3 damaged.

I said I would compare this one to the earlier one, so here's the short list:

*  I liked the instrument panel on the earlier one better. That's all I got....lol.  That's all I can say with a straight face.  This kit is stupid awesome and it would be quite tough to screw up.  End of Story.  I'm glad I bought two (I will still build the earlier one I have in my stash though). I did add some brake lines and extra tape on the gun ports from Tamiya flexible tape (painted red).  I wanted to make it look like these were taped over a few times.  I like the used effect.

.......and I really need to paint an RAF pilot.  I'm sure Ole Hans is tired of pretending to be British.

So if their upcoming P-38 is anything like this turkey, we will be in for a real treat.

Very nice work again, Joe. Thanks for the review. Looks like one to add to the list. Where do you get you Montex masks?

Joe, great results!Yes

Another method for the gun patches is to spray the approriate colour on clear decal film. Trim to required size and apply like any other decal.

About the roundels on the underside, did the masks stretch out of shape, or is that photo distortion?

Jack

Thanks Brandon. I get them off eBay. One particular vendor on there carries an assortment of them.

Thanks Jack. I like the 3 dimensional look of the tape. Maybe someone makes red tape?

Must be the angle of the photo, no distortion that I’m aware of.

That reminds of a thread dating back a few years concerning 'washi' brand tape as a better priced alternative to Tamiya tape.   Found in craft stores/deparment or amazon.

Excellent build Joe of a beautiful subject, makes me wish I hadn't bought the older Airfix version...has anyone compared the Tamiya vs Airfix (new tool)?

Wow, what a beautiful looking kit, and your build certainly done it justice. That must be the best OOB cockpit I've seen in 1/48 scale. The weather job you did there is great.

Joe, another cracker. Love what you’ve done here, especially with the “reverse black basing”. I think all these painting techniques are really just about tonal variation, and keeping things “moving” so to speak. You’ve proven time and again to be a master of this.

I noticed you’re having issues with your masks again... have you thought about making your own using kabuki tape and some sort of mechanized cutter?

Thanks Jack, I my have to look into this.  I got the idea from  Corsair build someone did, looked great. Those were white and he didn't have to paint them.

Thanks Reasoned.  The new Airfix one is good, but quite inferior to this one.  Tamiya outdid theirselves here.

Thanks Wai, Indeed the Tamiya pit is quite impressive and needs nothing.

Thanks Max.  That's exactly what I was trying to achieve.  Tonal variation.  I used to fade, then just streak, now I do a mixed of both with different shades and some marbling for good measure.

I have cut my own Japanese meatballs before using circle templates, but anything more complicated would be above my skill level. I'd rather let someone else do it....lol.  I'm hoping these were just isolated incidents.
