Where the hell was I at when this beauty was being built?? You build way to fast to keep up with sometimes brutha Joe.

Yep, me too. Missed the whole thing.

What a nice-looking Spitfire, Joe. Beautiful.

I've been thinking about a nice Tamiya kit where the pieces just fit. You are making me think some more.

Thanks Greg............and look no further.  This would be it.  As I said, stupid good kit.  Can't wait to see their P-38.

Joe, another cracker. Love what you’ve done here, especially with the “reverse black basing”. I think all these painting techniques are really just about tonal variation, and keeping things “moving” so to speak. You’ve proven time and again to be a master of this.

I noticed you’re having issues with your masks again... have you thought about making your own using kabuki tape and some sort of mechanized cutter?

Thanks Max.  That's exactly what I was trying to achieve.  Tonal variation.  I used to fade, then just streak, now I do a mixed of both with different shades and some marbling for good measure.

I have cut my own Japanese meatballs before using circle templates, but anything more complicated would be above my skill level. I'd rather let someone else do it....lol.  I'm hoping these were just isolated incidents.

Wow, what a beautiful looking kit, and your build certainly done it justice. That must be the best OOB cockpit I've seen in 1/48 scale. The weather job you did there is great.

Thanks Wai, Indeed the Tamiya pit is quite impressive and needs nothing.

Excellent build Joe of a beautiful subject, makes me wish I hadn't bought the older Airfix version...has anyone compared the Tamiya vs Airfix (new tool)?

Thanks Reasoned.  The new Airfix one is good, but quite inferior to this one.  Tamiya outdid theirselves here.

That reminds of a thread dating back a few years concerning 'washi' brand tape as a better priced alternative to Tamiya tape.   Found in craft stores/deparment or amazon.

Thanks Jack, I my have to look into this.  I got the idea from  Corsair build someone did, looked great. Those were white and he didn't have to paint them.

Joe, great results!Yes

Another method for the gun patches is to spray the approriate colour on clear decal film. Trim to required size and apply like any other decal.

About the roundels on the underside, did the masks stretch out of shape, or is that photo distortion?

regards,

Jack

Thanks Jack. I like the 3 dimensional look of the tape. Maybe someone makes red tape?

Must be the angle of the photo, no distortion that I’m aware of.

Very nice work again, Joe. Thanks for the review. Looks like one to add to the list. Where do you get you Montex masks?

BK

Thanks Brandon. I get them off eBay. One particular vendor on there carries an assortment of them.
