Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hi Toshi,

That model was a Revell "box scale" kit from way back in 1954. It's about 1/92. I think the best part of it is that great globe display stand.

Atlantis is a new company that's re-popping old kits, including some really old ones from Aurora as well.

Have fun!

The 'J' version is my fav version of a B-24. You have to love that goofy looking nose turret. The bombardier had to squeeze under that turret.

I remember those "box scale" kits when I was a kid. Fun!

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Yes he does.  He picked out the old Monogram 1/48 B-17G but when I told him we've built that already he insisted on the J series Liberator.

Building kits has been on the back burner lately as it's been unusually warm and sunny hence outdoor play for Ezra has been a priority here in Northeast Ohio.  Soon, strong winds and sleet will accompany a change in seasons.  Fishing, playing at the park, concerts, and kite flying are just some of the fun things occupying our times together plus the fresh air is great for Mrs. Toshi and I.

As always sir, your knowledge never ceases to surprise me.  It is a 1/92 scale kit and it has a very interesting looking globe display standing.

There were several kits labeled "Atlantis" at Hobby Lobby.

I've only known of the J version until I started building recently.  And yes, the J version is the coolest version around.

Hi Toshi,

How is Grandma?

Bill

Grandma is very tired today as she has received her first treatment of chemo yesterday.  Thank you for asking.  She ate a little breakfast and lunch but drank lots of fluids and took a long nap with Ezra.  Other than that, she seems to be looking good.

Yes, with my assistance and on the count of three, he does extremely well cutting sprue.  As for grandma, rest and recuperation was needed today as her first session of chemo therapy occurred yesterday.  Thank you for asking.

I finally found where this thread was and blew the dust off the Tamiya liquid cement bottle.  I asked Ezra if he’s interested in helping papa in starting back up the kit, he told me later.  He is really interested in hand held games.

At least he told me he’ll make models with me later this evening as he knows the trouble with my arm so bare with me.

Here's some of Mrs. Toshi's handi work whom helped me with the wings.  Ezra asked for a Marvel Comics LEGO set.  I had issues with it and my son had to redo the whole assembly.  Lol!

I still preferred a good ole fashioned model kit!

It's good to see Ezra enjoying the build-and to see you enjoying it, too, naturally Wink

That's a very popular kit right now, too, if all of the posts I see online about it are true.  A lot of guys of our vintage (in their 50s and 60s) look back on building that when Revell issued it.  So it's good to see you guys having fun!

I agree with Bill, this was one of the old Revell box scale kits. They used that clear globe base, not Monogram.

To my fellow FSM Forum Members,

I having been in and out of the hospital with having Ezra getting a scare with COVID19 was an interesting summer.  Luckily Ezra tested negative and I'm doing holistic healing!  Everyone is doing fantastic.   Today Ezra and I decided to do some AB.  It's been six months since even touching this kit and we plan on finishing it before Ezra leaves either Friday or Saturday.  He's getting so big, Ezra is now four years old.

Due to such an economic shortage we've both try to use what we have in materials.  AB the B-24 with Vallejo silver chrome, we will do some weathering and place this kit on the globe stand.  At least that's our game plan.  My son also picked up a Academy 1/72 B-17F   "Memphis Belle" so that'll be our next project.  Please see the photos below.

Everyone is doing fantastic.

And there is Bill's birthday present, right there.

If that isn't the greatest news. We were all worried about you, Toshi.

Welcome back to you and your able assistant.

My friend,

It's great to be moving forward once again.  Ezra is into video games and games on my phone.  Oh, the irony!  I have tried to pursuade him and entice him with collecting philatelic "Stamps" items.  Although fun, he always manages back to games.

Today he really enjoyed AB once again with Papa.   Thank you so very much for your kind words and encouragement!

Well now, "Happy Birthday Bill"!  The Toshi household started on a rocky foot this year but we will endeavor.  Thank you sir for the welcome back.  Ezra and Mrs. Toshi are now enjoying nap time while I clean up the bench.

We were going to do a light second coat via AB, but Master Ezra insisted on utilizing a brush.  I was shocked, all this equipment sitting dormant and you want to brush paint?  Well, I can't argue with that so Ezra went ahead by HIMSELF, and hand painted over the acrylic Vallejo chrome with MM enamel  silver chrome and this is his idea.  Honestly, I wish I could have brushed enamel on that good when I was four!

Yes, Mrs. Toshi and I have been doing well.  Master Ezra on the other hand keeps us really busy.  Being four years old, I keep telling Mrs. Toshi in that our time is limited with him, like life, nothing lasts forever.

When Master Ezra turns five next summer, he's off to school.  That'll be dictated with friends, teachers, and sleepovers.  As for Mrs. Toshi & I we will probably see him less and less since Columbus is three hours away.  Or a six hour round trip.  Wow, not something I can always do.

For now, we cherish what we have and treat him like a King!  I felt our next project should be the old Monogram SR-71.  Synchrinosity my friend!

With Master Ezra and Mrs. Toshi taking a nap, I had to see if my brush painting skills were still intact.  I just couldn't let a four year old out brush me.  I decided to brush paint the top half by hand and with a really cheap Walmart brush.  I'm happy to say that you really feel good about yourself and take pride in what and how you do things.  It turned out very well, almost sureal.

It’s so much fun doing stuff with the grandkids. We go bike riding around the block and both of mine love it, unfortunately it’s too freaking hot and they want to come back inside. Can’t blame them for wanting to get out of the heat.

Looks like Ezra is on his way on becoming a great modeler like his grandpa. Stay safe and keep posting.

Thank you so very much mustang1989!  Also, Mrs. Toshi says thank you.  And I thank you for your love and support as well.

As for this build, yes the parts count as you mentioned earlier is minimal at best and the detail is as such.  A very simple kit.  This is definately not a Zoukei Mura/Tamiya Kit with PE.

Although I haven't built one in a very long time, I'm just keeping it simple for now for Ezra!  If mistakes happen then it's not something I need to freak out about.  We just make simple adjustments and keep moving forward.  I'll most likely will be having Ezra back here by the end of this week.  My game plan is to complete this project by then.

Thank you crown r n7!  I think Ezra is now more capable then ever to start making the calls for what steps to take in a build, if things get weird then I'll step in.  Other than that, it's a matter of his mistakes and learning curve that'll be s obvious in the final product.  But the number one most important thing is that we can all have fun in this build!

Hi, modelcrazy!  How've you been doing.  I hope all is well!  As for this kit for what it is, the build, instructions, fit, and raised panel lines are all exceptable.  It's not for some modelers that are looking into something of a challenge.  But it is Definately an exceptable product and does serves its purpose well.  Do I recommended it?  Yes, for a simple and quick build it's excellent and for Ezra, it's a great learning tool for him as well as myself and we've both been enjoying ourselves in this build and that is what makes this hobby so fantastic.  Thank you modelcrazy for your support and being a great friend and follower to Ezra and I builds!

To my fellow FSM Forum Members,

This kit was a first for me, not only did it take 11 months to build, the parts count was minimal.  But for the cost, it was very fun and understanding that Ezra made a lot of the assembly process by himself.  It took a while as you all know by now I had pneumonia that was followed by Covid19 staycations at University Hospital in Portage county.

Thanks to all of you, I want to thank you for your support and help you've given the Toshi family.  Today I'd like to share our completed build.  I was ready to AB this kit with a NEO by Iwata, but Ezra wanted to utilize the Iwata Eclipse.  So he chose the Vallejo Chrome as the fueselauge color 77.707.  He then decided to brush paint with a old school Testors nylon brush with Testors Silver Enamel from the square bottles.  It was finished with Vallejo Acrylics.

To my surprise, the decals did not want to adhere after it dried so a little Tamiya liquid cement and Testors Spray Clear Lacquer was utilized to fuse the decals on.  In between a break with cartoons (Masha and the Bear, Paw Patrol) this kit was finally completed today, it now is proudly displayed right underneath the flat screen TV.  Once again, thank you all!!!

Your friend's, Toshi and Ezra

P.S. I submitted this build for the FSM digital readers gallery, I hope it will be chosen as an addition by the editors.

To plasticjunkie, It's always a joy and a blessing to be able to share a hobby with the next generation.  As you mentioned assisting your 4 year old granddaughter with her school project "Was a blast"!

Everytime when Mrs. Toshi and I gets to spend time with Ezra, we are always overjoyed with positive emotions.  Planning his day to day activities is so much fun and of course on cue, Ezra keeps us busy with his gigantic ball of energy!

Besides building styrene WWII aircraft kits and collecting USA stamps (We also collect stamps from the Kingdom of Hawaii, England, stamps with topical interest in WWII especially the Third Reich, and any if not everything in between that garners his and I attention and imagination) we both enjoy without any questions nor concerns of stamps (Philately) from around the world.  It's a historical teaching aid and a historical tutor for Ezra.  If my memory serves itself, I have Ezra on a at home program of where stamps are sent to us for approval to view, choose, pick, or return entirely at our discretion of up to 3 or 4 weeks to decide which one to pick or return.  This is also a paid postage plan by the philatelic company at their expense.  It ensures a good faith and honest way to do business.  That's something that is missing in today's world.  Once again, thank you very much sir for the read and reply.

You two guys make a great modeling team. Your B-24 looks really good! That stand brings back lots of memories.

Thank you very much lewbud!  It did take a long time to build this kit but in the end, it was worth the effort plus Ezra really had fun with this kit.  Thank you for the read and reply!

Thank you so much Shipwreck!  I've been told by other members that this kit had a lot of history with kit builders back in the day as this was a repopulated kit.  I'm glad that it brought great memories for you.  That's what makes this hobby so exciting!  Thank you for the read & reply!

Thank you Gamera!  I always try to occupy his mind with positive memories and show him how important life is.  I do miss him when he goes back to his moms house for 2 weeks, but knowing that we will be seeing him for 2 weeks as well Mrs. Toshi and I are always eagerly anticipating and planning his return to us.  Thank you Gamera for always giving the support to my threads, it really is a good feeling knowing that there are fantastic FSM forum members out there!

Ezra wanted to share this display he made for "Papa" and "Tutu" as he's going home today.  I thought it was a great example of combing the two hobbies together.  Model kits and football cards.  The items will remain displayed under our flat screen TV on top of a HP printer.  It's a simple yet humble display that I'll cherish.
