Well DM that is a very nice pit you have there. But in case you are not aware of it, the floor board on a real P-40 is the top of the wing. It is not flat; but nobody will notice if you do not tell them!

Got pain in today. 

Well I'm usually pretty hammered by the time I'm ready to post on here so there is that I guess. 

I spent about two hours last night writing my latest thread, I feel ya, bud. But I use a free hosting site in Turkey and I can only upload one picture at a time, copy the link, open FSM, edit post, paste link and write text, then update post. Go back to Link picture, upload, copy link, etc.

It wasn't this hard with Photoshop before it screwed us all for a profit.

If it helps, as I would do on my laptop before it died, I would actually open up a notepad and compose my post there, getting all of my picture links inserted and going through an editing phase before copying the entire thing and then posting in my threads.

But otherwise, this is how this forum works. It's a bit of a pain, but it's reliable. Hang in there. 

Lol yeah. I ordered a big set of the Army painters acrillics that should be here tomorrow. Hopefully they will provide what I need. 

One final caveat is that I'm seriously considering not posting on this forum anymore. It is so difficult for me just to post text, never mind what I have to go through for pictures! I only use an iPhone and it takes me way more effort to post here than in any other web forum on the web. Is there something Im not doing right? Even my spell check makes me have to correct each sentence at least once on here! 

I did something similar with my build as well. You're still looking good, bud.

Aside from have a few of testors metalic colors for dry brushing, I've mostly moved to Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics. They're a lot easier to use in my airbrush.

Testors gloss enamels have always been problematic for me, even when I just used the ol' hairy sticks.

I know it's far from perfect but I wanted to flesh it out down there some. I'll get it better on the next build. 

Thanks. I have some basic colors available but in my haste to purchase them the other day I failed to remember how crappy the Testors gloss black is. 

I decided to go ahead and glue the wings together. Howeve, after I did so I realized that I should have added detail to the wheel wells, or whatever they are called. 

I decided to just run the strakes across where the weel nests and simply build a box to cover the space where the struts lay across. I'm probably messing up the vernacular something aweful here but I'm sure the pictures will clarify. 

"Not satisfactory" I understand this feeling quite well.

I don't know if you've considered it, but I like to keep some basic colors (Red, Green Yellow, Blue, White, and Black) in case I need to mix my own colors or change the tones.

I think it's been mentioned, but color mixing formulas are available online. Just so you have that option if you want it.

I started painting but haven't applied any washes or anything yet. I mixed some aluminum and olive drab together for the seat pan. 

I know that's going to look good once you paint it. The detail level is great!

Waiting on paint for the cockpit has allowed me to go a little farther with the detail that I had expected to. 

I opened those up on my Monovell P-40B as well. It's an easy fix and you'll be happier for doing it.

But like I said, I'm only guessing that's what those slots are for.

As far as I know, these two slots behind the cowl flaps are where the casings eject.

On the P-36 they ejected out of some spring loaded covers in the wing roots just forward of the cockpit.

Where did the casings from the ma deuces in the nose come out of or were they retained till on the ground?

Very impressive work so far. It's fun and interesting to see this come together. 

No problem, DM. This is my all time favorite airframe so I know a little bit about it. I loved how my last build turned out and I've been slowly working on my Airfix kit at my leisure over a year now lol.

I've got a P-36A from Hobby Craft that I've been pimping out the cockpit with a lot of scratch work I'm quite happy with, including building the visible part of the fuel tank that will barely be noticed behind the seat lol.

I've really enjoyed that part lol. And, I'm not the only guy who knows a lot about these planes, as I believe you've noticed, so ask questions and expect a lot of enthusiastic responses!

You'll always have lots of help on this aircraft lol.

You have to try the new Airfix P-40B eventually. It's a much better kit and has few vices to overcome.

Here's a shot of mine to give you a better pattern to follow than the directions. Using a circle template to cut out where the british markings should go on the wings only and then masking the camo pattern. It's easy and more accurate.

About finished with the cockpit details.

 Thirty Years, are you sure? That's the old White Box Export edition. Oh, By the way.It's good you've gotten some advice on the pit. When I built my first one I had a neighbor that helped the "Little Neighbor Kid" build it right . Mr Ryan may you rest in Peace. 

 He served with the Eighth Air Force in Europe. He got transfered to a to a new unit just as the War in the Pacific ended. Oh, the stories he'd tell!  

 

At least 30 years, if not more. I boxed up all of my models I had left in the early 90's and have drug that box all over the place with me while I was in the service. After I retired in 2008 it got stuck in my kids closet and stayed there until I drug it out a few weeks ago.
