Theuns, I look forward to seeing that. I want a MiG 15 but have been holding out for the Eduard kits, but I have thought about the Airfix one.

I read a few reviews on it, I am not so worried about getting the best kit on the market, I am more of a "budget builder" LOL.

I am also doing all these "el -cheapos" as a practice run on all the ins and outs of alclad NMF before I tackle my 1/32 Tam P-51 next year.........I hope to have made all the mistakes before then!

I am busy with a series of "adversary" builds like the F-86 I just completed needs a MiG to keep it company ;-)

It will be out the box North Korean NMF delivery scheeme.

well the foiling has started (why oh why) this is about 3 hours worth, looks too "perfect" but ill beat them up a bit later. Im only going to foill the acadamy pf as i cant face doing two at once.

talentless, those foiled parts are amazing!  I can't imagine doing that but the part of me that loves to beat my head against a wall wants to give it a try.  Maybe try it on something small but I like the look.

Updated my F-86D......I've used differents primer instead to use several alclad laquer:tamiya gloss black and a tamiya gray and future mixed togheter.....then I've sprayed the chrome Alclad.......then it's the red stripe time.....that's all ......ciao from Italy

Hey guys.  I've been quite busy at work and with everything else.  But here's a peak at the little snafu I'm trying to fix.  One thing I've noticed while painting with Alclad's gloss black is how it lays down over itself.  What I'm seeing looks to me as the same thing that happens when you paint from too far away.  The paint begins to dry and collect in larger droplets which lay down further away from themselves preventing light to reflect back more seamlessly. The light gets sent out in different directions causing a somewhat flatter look.  So I'm thinking it's the "overspray" that's pushed out from the sides that dulls the shine we all need.  The only thing I've come up with so far to combat this is to plan out my painting strokes.  Allow one side to dry or get set up, block it and move on to whatever is next to it (like moving from a wing to a fuselage).

But here's what I'll have fixed tonight hopefully.

Hey bvallot!  On my Mustang, after spraying on the Alclad black, I had to sand it to get the smoothness I wanted as well.  I also shot a test piece (the tail piece without the fillet) with the black and sanded that down but also hit it with some Novus 2 plastic polish and was amazed at the smoothness it gave.  However, I don't know if it was the waxiness of the polish (I didn't try to wash it off) or not but when I shot the Aluminum on it, it didn't look as good as the piece I just sanded with the 4k to 6k to 8k to 12k grit micromesh.  I didn't want to take the chance on the Novus 2 all over my model so I just went with sanding the gloss black to the finish I felt was sufficient.  Good luck brother, I feel your pain!

@bvallot - another note: I also made sure my psi was about 15 psi and I was only maybe 2 to 3 inches away with the airbrush when applying the gloss black.  The first coat is a light mist to give the paint something to grip to and then wait 10 minutes or so and hit it again with a nice "wet" coat and that seemed to work best for me.  I also had my model fairly close to my "fan" that pulls the overspray away and out the window (my cheap version of a spray booth - haha!).  Good luck!

i am going to give alclads black a miss on this one. i have never been impressed with it so will try humbrol enamel gloss black instead and see how it goes.

A fan huh!?! I like that.  I think I'll have to shop me a cheap fan now. =]

Talent: I hear ya man.  I'm gonna try to work with it a little more to see if I can pull some more tricks out of her.  If I find anything noteworthy, I'll be sure to spread the word.  

I really like using Tamiya's rattle can paint (TS-14) decanted and sprayed with my AB... It gives a nice finish (a bit of polishing with fine sandpaper and polishing paste is always needed) and one of those cans lasts for 3 48th models or 2 32nd ones (it's a different story with those large bombers though...)

So here it is.  Taped it off, laid down a nice coat of gloss black, and everything is as it should be again. =]

In the second photo, you can see that surface is nice and flat again (no more nail marks scrubbing away the finish...).  I have left the ammo & gun doors slightly buffed hoping that I'll get a different tone with the Duraluminum I put down over the wings.

So much happier with this now.  I'm glad I didn't rush it.

Britt - looking good!  Glad you were able to get the black laid on like you wanted it.  There are times when I feel like "rushing it" so I know what you mean.  There were a few times where the engine in my Mustang was not aligned properly so the exhaust on the left side was causing a panel to not line up properly.  I ALMOST was about to start hacking away at the engine to shave it down but bit the bullet and did it right.

Anyway, I use a smaller box-type of fan that I prop in the window where it blows outside and when I spray my model, I have the model fairly close to the back of the fan so as to pull away any mist.  Don't know if it's actually working but I seem to be getting good results.  I can't wait to see the aluminum on it, I know it'll be awesome.  I didn't have my main wing with black on it, just the primer gray when I shot the Duraluminum on it so I am looking forward to see if there's a difference.

All-in-all, I am very pleased with my Mustang.  It's the proudest model in my collection.  I'm still wondering what to build next.  I want to throw in some sci-fi like the War of the Worlds alien tripod (the newer Tom Cruise version) or to go with a Bat Tumbler.  Decisions...

you know how much i love the oez mig im building  well the fuselage never fitted well. it was twisted and i had to clamp it to keep it in place while gluing. damn thing just split along the spine  i have tried to fix it better, i hope this one doesnt end up a crash victim 

Hi modellers........the Super Scale decal sheet is not good like I believed......so I have changed subject.....fortunally I've found an other one Micro Scale very very old but still good!The new subject will be Julie .....heare same shot of decaling......ciao from Italy...Enrico.

Your sabre looks relly sharp! (pun intended) The NMF looks great, as do the decals!

not much to report, this has taken me most of the week. underside of left wing is also done as is the hidden half of the fuselage
