OFFICAL NATURAL METAL FINISH GB V (2013-2014)

Okay, here are a few pics of the"Pit" I don't have anymore taken right now. The camera died last night so I had to put the batteries in the charger.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how the MM Chrome Silver was going to work out but I think I'm starting to like it.

Greentracker, I just came across this build and he shows what colors he used where on the wing.  Stainless wasn't used but at least it gives you some ideas.

I just got myself some  Alclad Stainless Steel at my LHS today. I'll use it for all the radial engines I have to paint in the future. I planned on using Gunze Metalizer (the stuff you have to polish) for the engines, but they only had the darkest metalizer (way too dark) in stock, so I just got me some alclad instead...

And I can tell you one thing: It will produce a horrible NMF. It is really dark and doesnt look like aluminium at all. It is great for engines though...

I was referring to the Alclad Color. It is perfect for engines and steel parts, but horrible for NMF, as every aircraft with that finish was made out of aluminium as far as i know.

Okay, the but all the aluminum I've used has no shine at all. Will Alcad Aluminum have a shine to it? What I am looking for is a shine that is only on part of the airplane depending on the light that hits it.

Just have a look at this. If it doesn't answer all your questions, feel free to ask. I'll try to answer them, but I can't guarantee for anything.

Moving along with the 105 and I have gone from clean to a weathered look.

I have the landing gear and doors done but have a little more painting to do.

Landing gear is on but I still have to install the exhaust, paint the nose black and a paint a few gray spots.

Hi. may I enter my 1/28 Academy P-36a? Not sure about the percentege it is, but there is still loads of work left to do LOL!

I think that one qualifies. You're on the list! It doesn't really match the 30% rule, but I like the P-36 and this GB needs a bit more attention anyway...

Ok, thanx. To make up for the "not 30% rule" I will enter another model aswell to go with this one, but not statred yet. Maybe a Sabre and or MiG 15  :-)

A Sabre? I'd love to have a Sabre in here. I might even build one myself, but I have to complete/start work on some projects I have to finish untill the end of December...

I have the Hasagawa 1/48 F-86f-40 in the stach I wanted to do with the 1/48 Trumpeter MiG 15 as a Korea Deo, but the decals I want to put on the Sabre is for a non Korea based sqn.

Failing that I will do the deo in 1/72 with the Academy 86-E and the Airfix MiG 15.

I have found Alclads a really nice (but sometimes difficult) paint to work with, the results are in my view unmatched.

I'm a bit confused right now. Which model do you want to build for this GB?

At this stage I am in with the P-36 in bare metal USAAF colors. If I have time left lateron I will enter something else aswell. Not entirely sure what yet. It depends on my modling budget at that stage LOL.

Before I start another I will inform you first.

Well, might as well dive in head-first here.  Just getting back to the model scene after 50 years.  Bish referred me here so here goes:

I'll be starting the Tamiya 1/32 P-51 Mustang in a week.  I would like to join this group and please excuse me if I step on any toes here.  This build will be mostly NMF and I'm hoping to get some good tips here on bringing out that NMF look!  Thanks for the opportunity!

I put you on the list! I am building one of those Tamiya kits as well. May I ask you which particular bird you are building?

@SS - concerning the P-51 Build, I haven't nailed that down yet.  I'm waiting to get the model in my hands and let it speak to me!  Haha! Probably leaning to the one depicted on the cover - Blondie, red nose and tail...subject to change.

I was actually leaning towards "Glengary Guy" - NMF bird with OD upper surfaces, but I went for "Feeble Eagle" - NMF with yellow nose and a big eagle on the left side.
