USMC GB : Now until Sept 2015

I’m closing on my new house right around then, so I’m going to be busy with some 1:1 scale projects for a few weeks… but I’ll be there in spirit, and I’ll catch right up when I can!

Hey Josiah, can I crossover from the Vietnam GB and submit for your approval my newly acquired 1/72 Hasegawa F-4B/N Phantom II?? I was 'debating' in my mind to go NAVY or MARINES, but, I noticed this GB and I'd love to do my first ever crossover. Keeping with Hase tradition, NO weapons included, so, I had to go out and order the Weapons Set 1 (gonna be brimming with MK82 bombs):

No worries, I too have some projects to get finished as well, both modeling and non modeling. Though I haven't set an end date, I'm thinking early september, so there's plenty of time.

Josiah, just bought a PE cockpit detail set from Eduard and some resin ejection seats from Squadron. I'll be a bit delayed on my start until these arrive.

Is it too late for me to enter this group build?  Ir not put me down

Oh boy oh boy, can't wait to break the plastic on my F4S,V22 and or F4U.

I removed the shrink wrap off the box and took a peep at the kit instructions. Have built the Monogram A-6 some number of years ago and it was a fun build, with the exception of a decal sheet it will be an OOB build. Found I can sure get myself bogged down when I want to detail something out.

Scott, for some reason I had failed to put you on the roster list, my apologies, I've got you added now....if anybody else had found that I have skipped over them OR would like to join up, it's definitely not too late and just let me know.

If their A-6 is anything like any of their other jets I'm sure there's a good base to go crazy with detailing. Even though I'm not that good at it yet, I find myself wanting to try to add more and more detail as well. I look forward to seeing what you do to it!

I finally have some work to show of my 1/72 Hasegawa F-4B, USMC, VMFA-115 "Silver Eagles". I have the pit done with some beautiful Eduard painted PE. My first ever cockpit detail set and I'm not gonna lie, I'm hooked!! The detail is incredible. The IPs are mostly two part so there's depth in the guages (you can see the white underneath). Just wicked. Also, installed some crisp True Details resin seats. Hase weapons set should arrive this week, I hope.

Here's that epic Eduard set:

That tiny white spot on the right side set against the black is a guage face. I painted a dot of silver, then, glued that black clear piece down first to show the silver through:

You can just see the gauge face on the right side. The left side is installed.

There's about 10 PE pieces stacked up to build up both IPs. No decal can do this!! Really turned out better than I thought:

Rob, holy cats, you've come along way already. Perfect work with the small pe set. Looks really nice for 72nd. I've found Eduard's color pe sets can look pretty rough and grainy in 1/48 scale, and they stand out like a sore thumb. Thats why I opted to just install some Quickboost seats in my cockpit and paint and drybrush the rest of the guts in there.

MC- Great choice and post a pic of your scheme! I've noticed you're in alot of GBs. Your bench must be overflowing with parts and boxes!

Got some minor progress tonight. Sealed the front half of the fuselage around the cockpit. I had to pry out the front seat to allow the fuselage to close. No probs. It went back in just fine. Sealed well and I don't think there will be any putty needed. Maybe just a minor bit to seal the spine on the rear fuselage, but, we'll see after it sits overnight. My only real issue so far is the shallow panel lines usual with Hasegawa along with Hase's hard hard plastic. I will prob spend a few hours running over all panel lines with the scribing tool. I fear the molds are getting worn? 

Alright, time to add another Eph-Phour to the mix. Got started on this big boy the other night:

Yeah I know the box art is a squid machine but I have the help of this awesome Furball sheet:

I'll have to pic one of the bottom 2 shcemes, not sure which yet. I decided to just use some Resin seats from Quickboost and do some scratch work in the cockpit, as I don't feel like working with a huge chunk of resin on my phirst phantom kit. Got them painted up using Tamiya Nato black as a base, and painting the rest of the details using Vallejo paints. I'll be using the kit ejection handles for sure though!:

Next I detailed up the burner cans with small strips of plastic on the ends of the petals and made some rivets in each one. Pretty subtle under some black primer:

I also had to remove the boiler plates from the slotted stabs, and restore some lost panel line and rivet detail:

Next on the list was adding some details to the gear doors:

Yeah, maybe. Dunno how long this one will be, but, I work on it daily, so hopefully my Weapons set arrives from Hong Kong soon. I fused the fuselage front and back tonite, but, that's pretty much it for today. Oh, I did have to put down a tiny bead of putty to take care of a pesky seam. Sanded and polished it up and it's gone.
