2015 Messerschmitt Bf 109 Group Build

Jay: Man first off it's great to have you back on board. Secondly you just gave me a great idea for those hard to replicate harnesses in the pit. It's gotta be the mechanic in us!! Don't we have the neatest resources????

Good to be back building something, Joe. Had a few issues to deal with and a little loss of *** but it's nice to be back at the bench. I have been watching everyone's excellent work.

Moving along. I rescribed the top of the oddly shaped radio access panel. Got the radius on the corner wrong, but I will live with it. The Hasegawa IP fits fine. I will try to dig up an AM gunsight. Trumpeter does give you K tailwheel doors, but you have to modify the fuselage to install them. The rear cockpit bulkhead needs to be corrected as there is no battery box on a K. I do like the way Trumpeter does the supercharger intake. It mounts flush with the cowling, thus eliminating that annoying seam you have to deal with on Hasegawa kits.

Thanks Joe. Got the fuselage closed up last night. I always feel good when I get to that point. Cleaned up seams and reriveted areas where they were lost from sanding. Rear cockpit area blended in so I can work on detailing there. Starting to look like a 109!

PJ, your G-6 looks a treat. funny how just a few patches of bright colours can lift the camouflage - not like the modern grey on grey schemes...

Bish, so are you a convert to1/32 scale or are you returning back to us in tiny town? H-J's plane is looking very good there. The weathering is nicely restrained, and the presentation great.

I have come back to my has 1/48 G 2 trop now I have finally finished my airliner build. Got some solid time at it, all the control surfaces are on, belts, gunsight and canopy on and masked.

I have primed, done some way too heavy preshading and done the white theatre markings.

The exhausts have been done in browns and rusts, and then given a bit of black around the tips:

Don't worry lst, 32nd will just get the occasonal visit from me. I have about 10 more in the stash and have no plans to grow it much bigger. My heart lays with the OTS

Had a short work week, so I could get the colour on the Gustav.

For the first time I have used bluetack sausages to get a scaleish spray line. Happy with how it came out.

Lost the preshading in the areas where I painted blue over brown; post shading white didn't really bring it back.

The preshading underneath was  better, but could have been more subtle. Gloss coat next weekend.

Looks like we're all getting some work done. Got the preshading on the F & G done

Looking good guys! Glad to see some building getting done. Worked a little more on my K-4. Detailing on the rear cockpit area and underneath.

Into the painting phase. The scheme I settled on is "White 10" from JG27 which I already have on an EagleCals sheet. Early K scheme of 75/83/76. Still have to do the fin and rudder.

Hey fellas, I’ve been pondering a decision that I have just recently had to put into action. I’ve had some personal things at home that have been progressively getting worse and it needs my attention pertaining to my son and school. I thought that things were in the clear and then it took a wrong turn. It’s quite apparent that my attention needs to be focused on that for a while. I spend a lot of time on the forum and enjoy it immensely but that time has to be suspended for a while until my wife and I get all this sorted out. My building, while slowed, will not stop and I’ll pop in from time to time to show progress but I just can’t be on in the capacity that I have been right now. In the interim my friend Joe Rix will be taking over for the next three weeks until the end of the GB. I know he'll do the GB proud and help to carry it through to the end. I appreciate everyone’s participation here more than I can say and I hope to make a solid return at some point in the next few months. For those of you who celebrate it, may you have a  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, your host Joe.

Sorry to hear about that, Joe, but glad to hear you're taking the time to get it all settled. Your kid will thank you for it later, whether he verbalizes it or not. I had a blast in this group build (my first one!) and really appreciate all the time and effort you put into it.

Well, here's one I made earlier ... in the year! You might recall I had a Tammy E7 underway with the intention of doing the famous Black 8, but I stalled way back -- maybe I'd just had enough of the 109 for a while, I've done a Spit, Panzers II and III, a Sherman, a Banshee and made inroads on a 262 since you last saw this bird.

She's preshaded, cockpit interior masked and strut colour sprayed, theatre band sprayed and masked, and the landing gear and prop are well along. I'll be mixing RLMs in Tamiya Acrylics as usual, and may use AM balkenkreutzer and stencil data.

Greetings Everyone! As Joe has mentioned, he has asked me if I would step in and administer this GB for him while he deals with some life challenges that we all get tossed at us from time to time. I am more than happy to help my dear friend out and to be here with all of you absolutely fantastic modelers. And, yes, my name is Joe also so that might alliviate some confusion. Lol. I've actually been following this GB a bit early on so, I'm familiar with it mildly. I also build aircraft and I am a fan of Luftwaffe aircraft yet, I do not possess near the wealth of information as you all do. So, bear with me in that regard. I'm not blessed with a whole lot of free time as I am not retired and I work full time, have other obligations and need to be at my bench also but, I will do the very best that I can to ensure things run smoothly. Also, this is the first time I've ever admined a GB.

Let me just say that the quality of skills, talent and knowledge displayed here are absolutely stellar. You folks know how to turn out some gorgeous 109's.

As for myself, I am currently building a Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubbletop for the 1945 GB.

I am indeed very happy to be here amongst you all and let's just have fun.

I have started on my G-2, I'll post some progress pictures in the next couple days. I know I will not finish before the end of the year, but, I'm commited to finishing this 109. 

Mustang, I'm sure you will get the issue sorted quickly. You are one of the good guys on this forum, and I wish you the best.

I can't believe I never submitted my finished 109 G-6,  I think I finished it this last summer,  Anyhow  here she is.
