I couldnt remember if I had posted this picture of my 109 G-6 Late version yet. If I had, sorry. It is not 100% complete as I still have a few small bits to add and a few other decals. I have done some weathering using pastels chalks around the engine exhaust and I've added a light earth colored was. I dont think I had added the wash yet when this picture was taken a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to have it all buttoned up in the next day or so.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

Hey Mustang Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. If you are able, the first (profile) photo of black 6 please. I will post another photo when I have finished with it over in the aces GB. Thanks everyone for the kind words, I keep seeing the bits I missed in the build. And there has been some other completions since I was last here. Jay white 10 has finished as it started, a very smooth looking plane with a great finish. Beautifully done. TJ, for a while there I thought you had twins, but as they grew up I could see how different they were. You must be a proud father. Jelliot, that's just teasing, you need to show us the finished product. Mustang, thanks again for hosting and top work on the pickup. Piers

And I have just seen that 'quick reply' doesn't let you add line spacing as well as anything else...

Bobby Gibbes and his Bf 109 G2 Trop

In Libya in 1943, Australians from 3 Squadron RAAF 'captured' a Bf 109 "Black 6"

Which I made up for this GB:

Bobby Gibbes as Squadron CO, had the markings redone as his personal aircraft, which I did for the Aces GB:

And had his photo taken with it:

Which is where the inspiration came for making this model in the first place:

The plane went full circle and ended up as "Black6" in the IWM Duxford Collection.

Thanks for watching

Piers

Lost, those both look right on.  Yes

Is the Gibbes figure altered from the spares bin?

Jack

Man that is a great idea for those builds. I'm glad to see that you finished them up for the group build! Thank you for being a part of this group build lost. It's builds like this from all the participants that helped to make this a great group build.

Let me know which ones you want posted in the intro post and I'll get 'em there. Yes

Thanks for the kind words and hosting the group build Mustang

The moment I saw that photo a few years ago, I was always going to build it in Gibbes' markings. Then there was the inspiration of the 109 GB and the Aces GB. Then the LHS had a special on 1/48 Hasegawa kits including the 109 G2 Trop.

So it just had to happen. Initially I was going to just build Gibbes', but I thought I would start building it as Black 6 before overmarking it as Gibbes', just as really happy. I suppose I should now repaint it as Black 6 at Duxford (before it crashed).

For the photo, please use the profile of "Black 6"

Jack,

Thanks for the kind words. The figure was converted from the Tamiya 1/48 figure of Montgomery. I researched Monty and Gibbes, both were around 5'6" so that seemed right. Trouble is, he did not look as tall as he should from the original photo, no matter how I shot it.

Measuring the figure, it is actually 5'0" - no wonder it doesn't look right... maybe I will redo him a bit taller sometime...

And I have to say I am enjoying your miniscule but great Hanriot build.Piers

Gotcha posted lostagain. Again , a beauty of a build and many, many thanks for taking part in this group build.

One of my biggest regrets was not completing a 109 for my own GB. I can only say at this point that when the automotive modeling bug bit me, it bit hard. I hope to return to aircraft some time later on this year when I get through with my current '54 Chevy Panel Wagon build I'm in right now for my Red Hot and Rollin' GB for 2016.

Thanks to everyone for another awesome 109 GB!!

Thanks Mustang, and thanks for hosting.

I have occasionally looked at the RH&R GB, your wagon is looking good. Some good stuff happening there, I really should try a non plane build once the current planes are finished...

Hey everyone.  As some of you might know, I had a life changing thing happen and I was out of the model building bit while moving and all.  I have finally gotten settled down (as much as possible), have a new home, and have started building again.  I had entered this GB but was not able to finish it.  Well, as they say, better late then never.  Finally finished her up.  Not my best build (getting back into it is taken some time Embarrassed), but looks nice on the shelf.  LOL.  Enjoy.

It's really great to see you around again Eagle. Sorry to hear what happened to your wife bud. Still lifting up prayers for you pal. I almost lost my wife in February due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. Scary stuff but she survived it all and we are blessed to have her here. Take care and will be in touch.

Your pic is posted on the wall of fame up front BTW.

Thanks Bobby and I never stop letting her know just how much I love her. Hang in there bud and I look forward to seeing more building out of you. I'll try to do a better job of posting in the 1946 GB. These dang auto builds have just about taken me over.

Thank you!  It does feel pretty good.  Have to get used to my new set up.  The one I had before was much bigger and I was used to the layout.  LOL!  I frequently sit there and look around trying to find something.  Embarrassed  That, and I don't have the family saying I'm stinking up the house now that I have the paint booth.  LOL!

Nice work, Eagle. Glad to see you making itback to the bench.

Side note - what about a 2017 109 build? Eduard has released its gorgeous G and F series, and I somehow just realized that I've apparently been stashing these and have something like eight 109s I need to build.

If somebody wants to run one of those that would be great! I might be up for a co-hosting job if anyone is interested in taking the reigns.

Thank you Jack.  I looked up colors for those and specifically Barkhorn's.  Got close I think, but not exact. Thanks again.
