Oooh, that's a neat idea! And a whole year to do it!

I'd like to try something from either 'Sahara' or '30 Seconds Over Tokyo'.

Hans,

Count me in....I was actually thinking about the German Cargo truck chase in Raiders...but you're right...needs to be conflict specific and not part of fantasy or fiction...Will think of something and get back with you.

"Hollywood at War" Group Build
Posted by Hans von Hammer on Monday, August 4, 2008 10:17 AM

Ok... Here's the deal.  Hollywood has put out hundreds of war movies over the years, so now it's time for Hollywood at War diorama group build.  Start date is 1 Dec 08 and let's finish up by the same date, 2009.  Dioramas only, any medium, any kit-type(s), any era, any scale, just so long as it is a recognizable & verifiable scene from a war movie.  Examples: Captain Miller's last stand from Saving Private Ryan, Stachel's crash landing his Phalz III in The Blue Max,  Patton's stand-off with the strafing HE-111s in Patton, etc...  Using models of the actual vehicles that were used in the scene is NOT required. (Like in the "Miller's last stand" example, you can use a Tiger, not a vis-modded T-34 in the role of a Tiger, and you don't need M-26s painted grey, pretending to be Panzer IVs, or T-6s painted with red meatballs...)

Dioramas can be single or multiple vehicles, aircraft, ships, etc, or no vehicles at all, like for a Civil War movie or the Battle of Roarke's Drift.  You're only limited by your movie collection as to what you can do.   Verification of the movie will be done using The Internet Movie Data Base:http://www.imdb.com/

If it's not listed in there, it doesn't count. Also, a particular war or conflict must be the main focus of the movie, not just any ol' movie that may have some military scenes in it or where the war or conflct is secondary or incidental to the story.  Example: Raiders of the Lost Ark is a no-go.  Same for Predator or the like.  If anyone has any questions or isn't sure if their idea is valid, we can discuss it here...

So, pull out those DVDs and VHS tapes, start makin' notes and gathering materials.  Don't worry if dioramas aren't your thing, they're NOT as hard as they may sound...

Try to post progress updates with photos, if you own a camera that will take quality shots, but it's strictly voluntary to do so during the build.

Here's the roster so far..

Ok... So far, the head-count looks like:

Lemme know if I missed you, and I'll edit this post, or post a new list.

Sign-up is open until 2400 CST 30 November 2008. Start Date/time group is 01-0001 CST-Dec 08. End Date/time group is 01-2400 CST-Dec 09 ...

I'll post the warning order (WARNORD) 2130 ZULU (GMT) 1 November 08, with operation order (OPORD) to follow NLT 0600 ZULU 30 November 08.

BTW, I'd prefer you didn't do cross-overs from other group builds or projects (Right, Panzerguy?Big Smile <img src=" border="0" width="15" height="15" /> ), but it's not a DQ if you do so.  I'd also like it if you didn't use a previously assembled kit or kits.  Figures are ok though, so you can rob Peter to pay Paul if need be... Figure painting is an art form of it's own, so I understand if you want to reuse and show off a previous work. Same with any structures...
