Thanks much guys....been wanting to build this one for a while now. Thumbs Up [tup]

Very nice work on yours, John! Thumbs Up [tup] I'm pretty sure the Eduard kit is the re-boxed fine-molds kit, and I was amazed to see what extras they threw in, like a sweet-lookin' decal sheet, lots of PE, and a full resin 'pit & gun bay. She's gonna be a lot of work, but worth it I'm sure. If she turns out half as nice as yours, I'll be a happy guy!

Thaks for the kind words guys, it's always appreciated!  And to answer your questions B:

1: No thinner for anything brushed on, just straight enamel.  The only thinning is on the base colors which I airbrushed on.

2: For the few pieces I actually used brushes on, they were a Model Expo Inc. 18/0 spotter(sable) and an Atlas Brush Co. 00(synthetic) and those were only used on a couple of dials.  Everything else was done with toothpicks.

3: 100% direct paint application and no drybrushing as I am still new to a lot of this and haven't built up the confidence to try drybrushing!

No new pictures yet.  Maybe tomorrow or Sunday when my work week ends.  But I have inserted the cockpit into the plane and have sprayed my primer and the panel lines on the body.  I finished the engines last night (my 1st experience with MM Metallizer and it went great!)  Next up will be a light coat of the main color (hopefully Mon or Tue) and then onto the main landing gear.  Will have more pics soon!

She's good looking in those colors! I will add you in, its a neat airship, even if it might be more bomber than fighter, hehe.

Hey Bspeed,

How about a twin-engined 'project'?  I'd like to tackle a VL Vihuri.  It was a Finnish de Havilland Mosquito powered by DB605s...it was never built, because they decided to standardize on the 109G-6 airframe instead.  Would this work?

interesting, did they equip it with more Cannon/Guns to make it more of a fighter, i guess like the Mossie F MkII ?

As far as I know, the Vihuri was not going to be upgunned.  I'm not even certain which mark of the Mosquito it was going to be based on.  Information on this one is very hard to come by.

Cheers,
Alex

Anthony, excellent cockpit work!

Allow me to pick your brain for our collective benefit! :)

1. did you thin the MM Enamals?

2. brand/size of brush

3. amount of dry brushing versus direct paint application?

thanks,

B

Ok, two weeks in, this is where I'm at on my F-15E.  This cockpit took a lot less time than my A-10 which is strange as there is 2, but it turned out better than I could have ever hoped for my second model.  All done in MM enamels, no add-ons, just the best I could do with some small brushes and toothpicks.

edit: sorry I couldn't get any better pictures my camera just wasn't made for extreme close up!

Not much to report except that the Cat is for the most part blue.  Definitely not my smoothest paint job.  Will see what a little rubbing compound will do, will know in a couple of weeks.Sigh [sigh]

Mike that P-61 is coming along great.  I like the crewman painting the invasion stripe on the tailboom.

P61 Black Widow diorama progress shots...

Slowly but surely, it's coming together.  I did what I could with the stupid paint, I think that I'll be able to hide it pretty well under the weathering... The model is at 80% complete, the rest of the dio at 50%, the figures have only been posed and initial paint laid on...  Thought it would go a bit faster, but I didn't realize just how LONG it takes to build 1/48th scale step-ladders...  The base is 2 plastic photo box frames glued together (my preferred base material), with static grass, sheetrock mud for the concrete hardstand, and un-thinned (makes it "stand up" for a 3-D effect) black acryilic paint applied with a syringe for the tar caulking on the expansion joints.    The tug came from the Pro Modeler ground support equipment set, the figures are kit-bashed Monogram ground crewmen from the various kits out there.  I'll have a complete list of construction notes when I finish...

Anyhow, that's where I'm at with it, gonna take a couple days off from it as well... I've been modeling 40-50 hours a week since about the middle of June and all but one of my (14) dioramas are unfinished... The only one that's finished is the "Thanks" diorama I showed WIP shots of in the Diorama Forum (Bill Mauldin WIP), so I have to get busy on some armor, both for the Desert Storm GB, and the USAAF GB... Not to mention the "Hollywood at War" diorama GB I started is about to begin (D-day minus 20, still time to sign up if you haven't already done soWink [;)], hint, hint..)

If you think you see something that needs attention that I may not be aware of, feel free to sound off about it (don't sweat the stripes though. I'm doing that sloppily on purpose, same with the drainage ditch... It's not done either...)... When you stare at a diorama for a while, trying to think about what's missing, what's there, what's wrong, and what has to happen, it's easy to overlook the obvious...

bspeed,

I saw your post in the thread for my A-10, and would be very interested in joining the group build.  Since you asked me, I assume it's not too late to join, and I just started my newest model yesterday.  So if ok, I'd like to add my 1/48 Revell F-15E Strike Eagle to the list!

Did you use primer before painting?

No, but upon reflection, I wish I had... I've had many, many kits with those "swirls" in the plastic before, but they were never an issue, since I painted with enamels exclusively.  This was the first time I used Tamiya through an airbrush on a kit with that stuff... As a said earlier, I didn't have the problem on the underside, it had the same swirls as the top, but I painted the underside with Testor's enamel... I won't make that mistake again.

Wonder if it had some kind of very stubborn relase oils on it ?

No, this defect was "in" the plastic, not on it...  I've since added the white for the invasion stripes, just outta curiosity, and the enamel covered them in that area of the wings, so I may just shoot the whole thing in enamel after I strip it today...

Serious bummer!  Wonder if it had some kind of very stubborn relase oils on it ?

might try wiping it down with Laquer thinner or even acetone, carefully!

Hans,

Did you use primer before painting?  I had the same thing happen on the underside of race car that I didn't use primer on.
