You guys are going to find as we reseach our planes that hardly any pilots that have kills over Mig's rarely got thier kills in their assigned aircraft. It's very rare that pilots get to fly the planes they got thier names on. Its also intetresting to note that many of the Mig's that were shot down in the Korean War where flown by Russian pilots and not Korean pilots. The term "Honcho" was a term used for Mig-15 pilots that flew their planes well and those planes were almost aways flown by Russian pliots.

Correct about the Honchos. There is a great book I have read entitled Hot Shots that is about the Korean air war from the beginning to the end of the Korean War. Great read as it describes the dangers and complications with early jet combat and also F-51's going up against Mig-15's. It also mentions the "Honchos" and Korean War pilots meeting Russian Honchos at reunions and such. Usually involved some type of arguement.

Anyways, if I get my 1/72 F-4C, I plan on making Lt Col. Robert Titus's F-4C #64-0776. The plane itself was a triple Mig killer but Titus scored a Mig-21 with a SUU-16/A gunpod. I believe that it was depicted in the History Channel's "Dogfights".

Awww...

Love the Meteor! I didn't know that Migs had been smacked down with a Meteor. So cool.

Here's a photo of the plane I want to recreate for the Group Build:

Abraham Shalmon's Mirage IIIC. Thirteen kills! I want to make it up very weathered and used. (Unlike my Convair F-106s that are somewhat pristine)

I'm gonna need after market decals!

Trexx,

I have ALWAYS loved the IAF paint schemes.  I picked up 2 of the 1/72 Hasegawa F-4E kits the other day.  I have a REALLY BAD need to make one of 'em an IAF bird for this build.  Or an Iranian (IRIAF) bird.  Gotta get my Sea Fury first though.

Jim, Welcome aboard! Your on the list. Thumbs Up [tup]

I was going to build that same Mig killer F-14A on the last Mig Killers GB but never could find the low-vis decals I needed for that F-14A. I hope you have better luck getting the decals than I did.

Trexx, you need to go to your FSM profile and edit the signature section. Badges need to be added as HTML. Here are the the html codes for the badges.

"<a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/albums/n316/MerlinzMajik/?action=view&current=MIGKILLERSGB001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n316/MerlinzMajik/MIGKILLERSGB001.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>" Mig in target

Do not add the quotation marks they are only there so this will show up as html code.

Hope this helps.

Gents,

I just ordered my Revell F-18 Bug Blue Angels kit which comes with extra parts to build the F/A-18C Bug from Evilbay and VFA-81 Mig Killer decals from Squadron. I wont be starting this kit until I finish my Super Bug but at least I now have this kit on its way.

Nice model score today and I am a happy camper!

Start of my Eagle.....

I still need to do a few things to the instrument panel before it actually gets attached. I want to pu drops of future on the dials to make them have the appearance of glass and some light drybrushing across the side consoles to make the rest of the buttons pop. The LCD screens were created using some Amscan confetti. Paint the screens flat black, then go back over them with clear green, and then cut the confetti to shape and attach with future....looks great

Paul,

Great start on your Eagle! One suggestion.. try drybrushing a little bit more white or silver on the dials to make them stand out more. When I paint cockpit detail I always use an Opti-Visor. It really helps me see that detail up close and paint small detail very well.

Good Job!Thumbs Up [tup]

yup....that's what I do too. Drybrushing is on the list of things to do.....luckily, the panel on a 32nd scale Eagle is pretty big already

Well Gents,

My C-Bug is on it's way however, the decals will be delayed. I had to call Squadron.com and correct a mistake I made at their web site when I ordered them. Anyway that is now taken care of and I am good to go.

Got my Sea Fury delivered this morning.  Opened up the kit, everything looks good to go.  First Trumpeter kit, so hopefully I'll be getting it started soon.

I buttoned up the forward fuselage last night.....

I drybrushed the side consoles and added future to the dials, now they have that sheen of glass over them. The avionics bay is painted with automotive primer (cheap....2 bucks a can compared to Tamiya primer for 10 bucks....and covers great) and then brushed in details and finally washed with a brush dipped in my nasty brush cleaning water....ended up looking great.

This final pic is a little dark, but it's main purpose is to accent the screens.....the other pics just don't show how cool the confetti makes the screens look

Paul,

That Eagle office looks pretty darn good. Now what I would do now is give it a bit of a wash with dark gray or black so the wash sits in the recesses of the details. This will give it a very realistic look when done. Dont make your wash to heavy, just enough that it sits in the recesses and corners.

Well done!

Good day gents

I have been doing some work on my F-86, starting on the office the seat was really nasty so i had to scratch build a new one using the old one as a base i used some evergreen and putty and wire.

Thanks for looking

Big Mike,

Love the seat... for the headrest and arm rests, is that fine grit sandpaper?  It looks like the armrests are thicker than the headrest, so maybe some type of foam insert (like what airbrushes come packed in).  Looks phenomenal.

Work on the Trumpeter Sea Fury begins TONIGHT!

Mike,

That seat looks OUTSTANDING! I cant wait to see it painted. GOOD job there!

As for myself, my Revell 1/48 F-18 Hornet kit arrived today. I opted to get the Blue Angels kit because it has the extra parts to build the "C" Bug and it was cheaper than getting the Revell 1/48 "C" kit. I am planing to totally rescribe this model and I am thinking some aftermarket cockpit goodies to put in it, a photo etch kit perhaps. Now I am waiting on the Cam decals from Squadron to arrive and hope to get started as soon as the Super Bug is done.

I'm a happy camper!

This week-end I'll be going 'down the hill' for some volunteer duty at the museum and that brings me within close proximity to my fav hobby store. I'll have them order my Israeli Air Force decals and I'll pick up any paint I need too... for my MIRAGE IIIC! (Dasault's wonderful tailless delta... in 1/48)

Some initial progress on the Sea Fury.  First Trumpeter kit, and although the panel lines are nicely recessed, the mating pins and holes for the fuselage are garbage.  I took my trusty Squadron Medium sanding stick and sanded them flush.  I might need to add a shim once I get the whole thing together, but it's better than having to drill out all the mating holes, as they were full of flash.

Here are the cockpit and sidewall photos.  This thing is pretty small, cockpit is less than 1" long.  OK detail, picked out some switches and dials with a 10/0 brush and white/red/silver paint.

As always, comments and thoughts are appreciated.
