Hmmm Mikester FM is 1/72. The Revell kit with issues is it 1/72 as well? The 1/48 one doesn't seem to bad really. I think that is Steve is using those as his production line.

I think the Revell 1/48 G-10 is actually one of Monogram's last releases before the merger with Revell, it's a nice kit.  Yes the Revell 1/72 G-10 has some serious issues, incorrect propeller blades, propeller boss is off, an amorphous blob that's supposed to pass for a supercharger intake for starters, I could go on but you probably get the point.  The overall fuselage shape is OK and it has nicely engraved detail but it takes a lot of effort to get a decent end product.  With Finemolds you get a beauty right out of the box.

OK, almost ready to send off to the paint shop, a couple of adjustments made to reflect features of an AS.

I ve been plugging away at my Fujimi 1/48 K-4.  Overall a decent kit considering I only paid $15.00 bucks for it on eBay. It comes with just about every part you need to make any version. the panel line are well done except for the fact that they have molded every option for you and you have to research your particular version and sand off all of the ones that do not pertain to your version. In my case the radio access and master compass panels. They only probem the kit is giving me is the fit of the cowl panel. It is moulded in left and right halves and it does not line up well with the fuselage halves. If I had it do over i would spend alot more time sanding and fitting them because I now have a ugly gap in an area that is hard to repair. Not having the instructions did not aid in matters and caused part of the problem. If I had installed the manifold sheilds first the cowl propally would have fit a little better. I'm kind of bummed out a bit about the fit but I think I can push through it and end up with a decent kit in the end. The cool camo colors should help draw some attention away from the cowl I hope.

SC- On late war aircraft the fit wasn't all that great on the cowl sometimes either, just claim it was intentional and historically accuarate! Wink [;)]

HK, really great work on your 109. You are moving along quite nicely on this one and it's looking great.

Reading todays posts, you guy's had me worried about my Revell kits accuracy. Im not a rivet counter but I do want it to be accurate. All the photo refrences I have for the G-10 show the kit to b close. I look to you guy's for all the detail questions.

That was my plan Aaron! I have seen some photos where it looked like the fit of the back end of the cowl panel was quite poor with a large gap up under the windscreen. I think if I build another Fujimi kit [ I have the G-6 version which is the same kit] I  think i will attach the cowl panels to the fuselage halves first before joining the two halves. I think a much better fit would be the result. For now I am stuck with what I have and I'm just giong to do the best I can with it.

Thanks Frank, Steve. My biggest complaint with the kit is the "hard" wing. None of the flaps or radiator outlets are molded separate. I was seconds away from cutting them loose, looking for decent refs to rebuild them by stopped me. Just not enough info at the time and a request here yeilded nothing. Since then I've found some decent pics so maybe I'll buy a couple more of these for the other two planes in the decal sheet. Some scratch work is well worth the extra $15 each I'd spend on the Hasegawa kits.

Nice work on the details Mike. The way im representing the weld line on the Super charger intake is just to press the 2 halves together and leave the blob of welded plastic in place. Those weld seams, to me, are never really very visible. The weld in real life would be on thin plate and a butt weld would be very smooth, not like an arc weld. Im ready to be proved wrong though LOL.

Shooter, Great paint work, you are Shooting (Sorry) through the build. Love the demarkasions between the colours. I take it you freehanded the splinter? Did you use the putty method for the fuzz. Looks very good.

Crusher that is what I did with mine which I am building for this GB the only issue with doing it that way is fitting the cowl guns.

Hi guys,

Excuse my silence but for the last 24 hours I've been unable to open FSM at all -- not sure why, it was like the web was moving at a crawl, I was timing out before I could even download the homepage, never mind log in! Anyway, it seems to have cleared at this point.

hk -- great work, she's looking good! (Everybody's are!)

Hope to have the time to work on my K-4 shortly. I wasn't able to pick up the correct paint for the interior of the radiator scoops, I'll need to go further afield: two of the three main RLMs are not stocked by my closest shop.

Cheers,

Mike (yes, there are a few of us talented Mikes here, aren't there?) Big Smile [:D]

Luftwoller, the wings are freehand, the fuse is taped. I wasn't sure if the lines on the plane were soft or hard (again, an inquiry here yielded nothing) so I went with what was easiest for me. Glad you like.

John that is why i tried attaching the cowl after to make the gun instalation easier. In hind site I think it was a big mistake because I ended up with a really bad fit and it has really bummed me out. i'm sure your's will come out much better than mine. The cowl guns are still going to be a PITA because of the way the kit is designed. I think I am going to cut mine free from the mounting stubs and shove them down the gun troughs till they hit the stops. can't wait to see your progress there John!

Hey fellows! I got my AIRES cockpit set for the Hasegawa 1/48 G-10 today.  The detail in the resin is the best I've seen and a PE fret is there to cover the parts that are better rendered in PE. The thing appears flawless to me. I am glad I took Stan's advice as they must surely be the best out right now.  But as always it brings a question to mind.

As you know I have been practicing with the G-6 making a pit out of the true details and Edward PE set. I have used the pics provided by the kind masters here as refs as well. So here ids the question......

The only diff I can see in the Aires G-10 and the G-6 I am making aside from the Instument panel is one small box on the lower front right wall. I mean the Fuel line and all the other detail is exactly the same. Although the resin has rendered the details better than the PE. The Aires kit is so well done.

Is that correct? The its are almost exactly the same from the G-6 to the G-10? I was kinda expecting a closer resemblence to the K-4?  I leave it to you all to unconfuse my issue here. I am seeing 109's in me sleep!  Whistling [:-^]

Aaron as far as I know there are only small differnces between the G-6 and the G-10 instrument panel. in 1/48 probally not even noticable. The K version is a whole other animal. it is a completly different shape and made out of wood. the Fujimi kit i am building came with both instument panels and they have a completly dirrent shape. I would post a pic but the K version is already stuffed in the fuselage of my K-4 and not very visible.

That sounds like a great Hall there John! I shoulda sent ya my list too! Tongue [:P] Didn't spend that much but didn't get all the decals either so I am jealous!!!

Hey SC I was just checking out the parts in the package. Don't want to lose a part to early. There is another diff between them. The Aires G-10 kit has the wooden seat design. I focused too much on the side walls.  Tommorrow if you all like if I get some decent daylight I can post pics of my progress and of the Aires G-10 kit. I like to compare the parts and let the group concure on the accuracy cuz then you can learn by seeing as well.  The main thought I had was wow there is that big aux fuel line. Wow that was still there in the G-10?  Wait a second that looks exactly like what I am trying to make! Only better Confused [%-)]

Whoa missed it again! Sorry HK Shooter! I get wound up in the excitement of learning new stuff and didn't mean to be rude!  It is a good thing I did not reply to your hard or soft line question cuz I woulda told you wrong and your 109 would not look near as nice!  At the rate I'm going I'm probably just making you another target for the ol' H&K! SC- Bummer about the fit of that kit.  I have also seen those photos where the cowls look like they're from a different type of airplane! Shock [:O]

hk- Sorry you weren't able to get what you were looking for.  Just took another look at your paint work, very convincing indeed. Approve [^]

Aaron- More resin for you?  Man, sounds like you the 109 itch BAD! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

John- I'm envious!  That's quite an order, sounds like a lot of goodies heading your way. Big Smile [:D]

Well Guy I fear you may be right. This padewan is trying his best between work and the dentist visits.  I just got a notification that I have my big order coming tomorrow and the 1/32 G-10 I had given up on so many months ago is due in by the 18th. Merry Messersmitt Christmas too me!  Pretty certain tomorrows arrival is what I bribed the Royal post to send to me instead of you! Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]Laugh [(-D]

Now I promised pics of what I have so far. I am not done with the instrument panel and some edges need cleaning but you can compare the True details (with edward PE) G-6 to the Aires G-10 pits. both in 1/48.

Here is my G-6 pit efforts

And the comparison.

Again the Aires is already very well detailed with it's own PE. Much crisper and just plain Nice! Also has extras like the Bullet proof shield in clear plastic and awesome instructions.

The True Details is soft by comparison. Needed the Edward set to make it jump out better. Advantage is both those sets are less than 1/2 the cost of the Aires.

Another thing I stole er borrowed from Looking at Guys G-10 thread was I cut the yellow fuel line and took a small chunk of it out replacing it with some clear streched sprue to mimic a site glass in the line. Looks pretty good and not to hard. Painting on a lot of details like hose clamps extc All of which are clearly and very well cast in the Aires kit.

I refuse to say I caught this bug! That dog gone Daywalker! Evil [}:)]

Aaron yes the fuel line is still in the same location on the G-10 as the earlier G models. It was not relocated from the upper right fuselage until the K model. Post some pics of the seat. the K model has a very basic seat much different than the earlier G. Just a box that the pilot sat on using the parachute as a seat cusion and back rest.

Guy sorry to hear your goodies have not arrived as of yet. Have you tried harassing the delivery man? A little intimidation never hurts!Big Smile [:D]

I was checking out the seat Soul Crusher. In both the True Details G and Aires kit It looks to me that the  later wooden backed seat is represented. I quick check and refs tell me they were in later G-6's so no biggie.  From what I can tell there are not a whole lot of easily visable diffs between the G-6 and G-10 or maybe any of the G series until you look at the K models. Then my 109 infant eyes can see a big diff.

Of note are the seat belt colors. I think mine should be lighter almost a buff white although the color sets show them pinkish?  I painted them as the guide that the True details set showed but I think it may be wrong.

I've just finished going through the reference library, the G-6 cockpits are very well documented, the G-10 is another story, here are a couple of scans:

G-6:

G-10, incorrect restoration, colors are wrong but everything is where it belongs:

Guy, that's a sweet looking set for sure. Should look awesome when painted knowing your abilities! Thumbs Up [tup]

HK, you gonna post some pics for us? Man you guys are making amazing progress. Mine's been slow but steady, but with the wife heading out of town on friday for 4 days I hope to have some major progress to show in the next few days (fewer distractions Wink [;)] ).

Keep up the great work, guys! Thumbs Up [tup]
