I am having camera issues. Dead batteries and details to tiny for the other so maybe later I can show my nightmare of pit progress.

Speaking of refs I got a good one for a G-10. Don't know who these people are though.

I think they're "OH S&$T!" handles. Laugh [(-D] LOL...

Have been working on the cockpit of mine this afternoon, adding some lightening and paint effects to break up the monotony of the dark gray.  Hope to be able to start the detailing soon.

Love that G-10 of Guy's!  That gunsight is one of the best I have ever seen.  He should be rightly proud of his elves. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I found your link too Frank and edited it in. I was reading it and missed ya. I have the same PE set Guy used on that G-10 and Gunsite. Just don't have his skills... yet what takes him 10 minutes takes me 2 days! Confused [%-)]

Was away from the bench for a few days but got some good build time in tonight. The assembly process continues. All the pits are done and the fuselages buttoned up. Now for the seam filling and sanding part, uughh. I hate this part especially x3. Luckely, the fit of these kits are pretty good.

OK Guys, time to talk turkey....

My G-14/AS was a 784 block number.  The only pic I have is after it has been shot down and the lower cowl is not visible.  I've decided to go with the deep Fo 987 oil cooler with cheek bulges.  This is strictly a guess on my part, since both the Fo 870 and Fo 987 were used on the G-14/AS.

The dilemma here is the panel on the port side aft of the engine cover.  The decal sheet reference shows a square "Erla" style panel, in "Bf 109F, G, K an Illustrated Study" Prien depicts the 784 block G-14/AS with the more common upswept curved panel.  Normally I wouldn't put much stock in the decal sheet, but it's done by Luftwaffe im Focus who know their stuff.

If I could ascertain whether the 784 block was built by Erla it would make things easier but no joy so far.  Any input appreciated!

Uh.... Uh....... Yeah! Mike the older model was used to quish the swoozimacallit. Then changed back into  the later green drab colored sneversnitel!

That's it I think I'm learning something then this... I am going to go buy an English to Me-109 Buff Dictionary so I can start translating . Good Grief Charlie Brown!  I am having a Break down . Sounds to me like you seek Yoda! Only thru the force can you find that which you seek!

Ok Mike I know who to ask now for Specific Aircraft Specifics!  I am FLabbergasted with such a quest for detail.

My Detail quest als is still in training. Started with the old $5 Otaki kit. ( No Frills) I thinned out and got rid odf all the molded in square shapes on the sides of the inside fuselage and in the quest not to go to overboard with a $5 kit am adding a cheap True details resin pit but am trying to liven it up with an Edward 1/48 G-6 interior set. I figure this kit doesn't even have an open canopy option but it is giving me a little practice before I dig into the bigger more expensive stuff. Here are a few pics of my progess thus far. Holler out any suggestions as I will probably take and use them all!

Trying to get the seatbelts looking like the pic Frank put up for me.

The PE stuff helps with the smaller details. Right now it seems to be going pretty cheap as the new Colored PE is the newest. I picked up the plain G-6 set for another $5

The True Details pit was about 7-8 bucks so I have invested $20 total in practice parts that I want to look okay even if it's practice.

Using guys trick with the white backing on the film instruments. Actually I just plopped white paint on the backside. So a couple more little additions to the right side and onto the fine painting to try to get it to pop out and look better.

So In all seriousness I really do read everything, save every pic and follow the good techniques I see you all post. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Big boy. Looks like youve broken your PE cherry in a 109. The Left hand side wall with the throttle quadrant and the trim wheel looks the shizzel. My only question is the base plastic looks a touch lumpy. The floor panel especially. Whats happening there? The way i do the seatbelts is bend them to the shape i want in the seat then remove them gently from the seat and paint them, then refit.

Keep it up, im sure you can make that old kit look spankilicious.

That's what makes the 109 so darn interesting!  I'm hoping Stan will chime in here, if not I'll just go with Herr Prien's info and call it good.

Nice work on the office so far!

Hmmm I think the lumpy look is from the cheap True Details Pit. I mean it cost $7 so you can't expect an Aires look. In retrospect using ony PE and the kit floor may have looked better under the camera zoom but I need the practice fitting resin pits. FIgure if I can get it to fit proper then one of real quality should seem easier. The side walls and details were all generally soft and lumpy hence the PE additions. ( More Practice) I dry fitted it all and did my fuselage surgery prior to the  PE parts so to avoid a repeat of your ill fitting but very nice looking pit.

I figure since the only option is a closed one with the kit canopy It shouldn't look to horrid.

I still am waiting a suggestion on a paint scheme and markings.  This being a late war GB I am wondering how far back I dare go? Think the G-6 was actually flown as early as 1942.

Mike- Wish I could help you on that one, but I really have no idea! Disapprove [V]  Hopefully Stan has the info you need. Thumbs Up [tup]

Aaron- Looking for suggestions, are we?  What type of scheme are you looking for?  Eagle Editions (available from Sprue Bros) has a number of 1/48 Bf-109G-6 aircraft in Reich Defense markings.

You know Frank I had originally thought of maybe one of the odd colorful ones,  In the absense of orders I have been considering The night fighter with the weird squiggles but the Moskito chaser Warhammer posted is a curiosity as well.  Then there is the KISS method. Keep it simple stupid that I should follow if I follow my better judgement. Only time will tell.  Sometimes I get a hankering for something different or odd. With the 109 I am sure just about everything has been done at least a dozen times.

Gonna paint on the pit and think some more on it. If anyone has any pics of G-6's that fit the bill for this GB please send away?

OK, got confirmation from Hyperscale that the 784 Block was Regensburg production so I'm all set.

Laugh [(-D]

OK, my Padawan learner.

First, the 109 was built at three facilities, Regensburg, Erla, and Wiener-Neustadt.

The refined cowl was used on the G-6/AS, G-14/AS, G-10 and K-4.  There were actually some subtle differences in the refined cowl but let's keep it semi-understandable for now.  First profile shows a Regensburg or Wiener-Neustadt production refined cowl, notice the upswept panel in the circle?  That's your cue that it was built at one of these factories.

Erla had a different way of doing things.  Notice the panel that I've circled is square and lacks the upswept panel line?  That's your cue that it's Erla production.  Identifying Erla built planes caused some confusion.  For a long time it was believed that a G-10/AS model existed.  These were later found to be regular G-10's, Erla style.  They lacked the cheek bulges on the oil cooler, had the square panel and had more streamlined bulges on the wings for the big wheels but were G-10's none the less because of the engine.

Thank you Mike that was very  VERY helpful!  Unlike someone who gave the link for Eagle Products. I spent 30 minutes going thru their website only to find more resin replacement parts to improve the K-4. Banged Head [banghead] What are you trying to do to me Frank! Oh the man is throwing salt on my wounds!  Canopies that open and close? A spinner which is not in stock! But little things like covers and such that are just improved enough to make me want them!  AAARRRGGGH! Pirate [oX)] This isn't just a bug you catch it is an epidemic!

Actually there was a G-10 /AS Erla COnversion that pointed out what you were getting at there Mike. Your pictures actually made it very clear as to the Diffs now.

As far as the rough spots on the resin floor I worked diligently to lessen them. I actually thinned some Mr surfacer and applied several coats a little at a time and smoothed it all out very nicely I might say. Then I figured out it was there to mark the placement of the 20mm Canon breech/cover. Dunce [D)] Duh hid all my efforts but at least it had a nice surface to glue to.  Duh AGAIN! Banged Head [banghead]

Oh well this is my training model and there will be more lessons to learn I am certain!

Been trying to figure out what tail wheel my a/c should have. Tall or short. Decals indicate short. 109 G-14 wr#46459 yellow 25, Pilsen, Czech Republic, may or june 45. I'm suffering from info overload trying to learn 109s, now I'm just giving up and asking before my head explodes.

Any thought from the experts?

Aaron- You REALLY hate me now, don't you?  LOL... you have been assimilated. Big Smile [:D]  It really is addicting, trying to sort through all of the documents and references trying to find that one clue about a particular aircraft.  They surely are elusive beasts.  Glad you're having fun with it though! Big Smile [:D]

hk- I looked through my references, and the closest I could find was "White 21" wk464549, Bf-109G-14.  It's only a profile, but it shows the short tailwheel.  I am by no means certain, but I would opt for the short tailwheel.

I've got a picture of this a/c in Kagero's "Bf 109 G/K Vol. III".  Little hard to make out but it appears to be a short tail wheel based on the height that it's sitting.  The caption on the photo calls out a short tail wheel as well.

I was browsing around YouTube this morning, and found this original war video of a downed late Bf-109 (G-10 I think).  very cool stuff, gives a good representation of the late war mottle camo. Thumbs Up [tup]

OK, finally got going yesterday on "White 13".  I decided to use a FineMolds G-10 as a base for this project since the Revell G-10 just has so many issues that need to be corrected to get it right and life's just too short to build crappy kits. This was G-14/AS from 13./JG 53, a 784 block number buillt at MTT Regensburg.

I'm leaving the interior stock except for some Eduard PE seatbelts...

I've added the reinforcement strips to the inside of the radiator flaps since these will be positioned open.

And I've added some PE and brass rod to the oil cooler to liven it up a little.

Guy for some reason I found that funny in an odd way. Laugh [(-D] I must be watching to much BBC.

No Post on Sunday Guy? Boohoo [BH] The computer says I have one due in tommorrow sometime! More 109 parts and tidbits! Thanks Frank! Hate? May be too strong a word, but if you ever saw Lee Ermey in the Texas chainsaw massacre. You get the idea. Evil [}:)]

Frank that was a cool clip. Never saw it before and a good pit shot too!. Thought it was going to be a AM part commercial. Mischief [:-,]

hk shooter? I always pick the round little wheel. Dunce [D)] What do I know?

Hmmm Mikester FM is 1/72. The Revell kit with issues is it 1/72 as well? The 1/48 one doesn't seem to bad really. I think that is Steve is using those as his production line. Frank! check out his pic with your optivisor and let me know how he is doing. Make a Toast [#toast]  Aside from the short tail wheel it looks like a K to me? The more I look at it the more it seems pretty good. What say you?

Nope, just a suggestion Aaron. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  Have you ordered any AM parts yet today?  Be careful, Dee is gonna kick your Censored [censored] when she sees the checkbook balance next month. Shock [:O]

Mike- Is that 1/72?  My guages don't even look that good in 1/32!  Beautiful work, love your markings choice too.  The black RV band gives it a very sinister look. Evil [}:)]

LOL too funny I just edited my last post about that.

Got another box due tomorrow and another 2 days after that. To top it off I got a message to expect a 1/32 Hasegawa G-10 that I forgot I ordered. It was my first thought when you started this GB and wasn't in stock. Now magically it is on it's way! Banged Head [banghead]

Now if I could just order the skills to use it! I can really see where being a Jeweler by trade has it's advantages! Make a Toast [#toast]

Are you getting a package tomorrow Aaron? Id really never had known HAD YOU NOT GONE ON ABOUT IT FOR THE LAST WEEK. Grrrrrrrr. Frustrated me? Never. Ive actually been busy today on the other project. Very theraputic.

Mike. Looking sweet. Love the little details that are often forgotten but in my opinion make all the difference (Actuator wire). Good colour scheme too. Lovin the Black Rv band.

Hopefully My package will arrive tomorrow. Fingers x'ed.

Undoubtedly been Hijacked and diverted to Texas Guy! Pirate [oX)] Should come in handy for all my surprise packages. My issue was I had zero Me-109 stuff (late at least) and got the Bug when Frank sneezed on me when he snow blowed my drive a couple days ago.

Oh I can't wait to see all the goodies you got! Party [party]
