My iternal search for decent late model pits has turned this beauty up. Dont think its a K but its deffo late as no fuel line.

Aaron- I didn't do a build thread on mine, just starting posting when she was ready for paint.  I think I added photos of the cockpit in there somewhere. Blush [:I]

Yellow 5

As Stan said, a lot of the little differences would go completely un-noticed by all but the most dedicated 109 fanatics.  As far as what to build from that kit, I would say find some markings you like and post your interest here.  Any subtle variances would probably be able to be pointed out.  Eagle Editions decals are quite nice, and they have a wide selection of late-war 109 subjects to choose from.  They are also good about pointing out any discrepancies found on the featured aircraft.  Both Squadron and Sprue Bros carries them, though Sprue Bros has a much larger selection.

Guy- That cockpit photo is of "Black 2", the Bf-109G-10 from Duxford.  Not sure about the missing fuel line, perhaps moved in the interest of modern safety as it was airworthy?  Fuse panel location looks a little off to me as well. Confused [%-)]

Cheers Frank, your right about the fuse panel looking a bit different. Deffo looks different to a K fuse panel. I had a look for Black 2 in Duxfords Inventory and no sign. Do you have a link to it? Im pretty sure that Duxford had Black 6 but not 2. Oh i dont know. Im seeing friggin 109's in my sleep now LOL.

Talking of which, im calling my pit done.

You can see the remains of the molded on seatbelts. The rear belts will go on after the pit is installed. They look quite visible in the pics but i dont think they will be noticed when the pit is installed.

With the cocpit, i gave the whole thing a coat of RLM 66 and then lightened the centres of odd panels and raised lumps. Picked out a few bits and bobs (Pipes, wires etc) and then gave it a wash of raw umber. Lastly i added a few scratches and chips with a silver pencil.

frank I'll post a gunsight pic asap. If I can't find one I'll take a pic of the one I have.

Got a little progree done last night.

upper cowling on, oil cooler on, need a little filler.

front view, radiator, no actuator yet. will install that after paint work.

cowling mechine gun's driller out but not painted yet.

Inside of split rad/cooler flaps. painted rib detail added, and slightly weathered. Not worried about short stakes as they will not be posed full open and in 1/48 scale you can not make this out. AS you can see the far right one perfect the others I got lazy with.

and finally both sides ofthe wing radiators painted and washed. this is the back side showing rad detail painted on. so when you look between the flaps you see detail.

I'm hopping to get the wings assembled and on tonight. as well as smaller details like the SC intake, tail and such and prep it for camo paint.

Gorgeous stuff Stan, but nothing i wouldnt expect from you. Loving the painted rad faces. Now theres a well stealable tippet. LOL.

As an aside does anyone have a pic of the outer gear door mechanism for the K. Ive seen an aftermarket set for the same that had good detail. But for the life of me i cant remember who did it.

Lufty the pit look great. I don't know if there is pics of the gear mech for the k-4. I don't recall ever seen one. I may have a tech drawing around, I'll look.

Well I got all the crap in the wings, pasted the wings to the fuselage. I also added the SC intake and tail. Got most of the seams cleaned up. All I got to do now is get the control surfaces on the wings fix a seam right on top and tape her up for paint.

Hi all,

There's some stunning work going on here, and in such short times as well! I'll keep this GB bookmarked and refer back to it when I finally get the chance to build a late 1:32 G or K. My own pit is nearly ready and I assembled the fuselage a few nights ago, but a pressing deadlined build keeps me from the K-4 at the moment.

There was a request for a pic of the Revi 16/B gunsight not long ago, I don't remember who asked for it. I was able to find the Revi C/12D, I'm not sure how much they differ. Here it is:

Photobucket" border="0" />

And here's the book it's from, my main Bf 109 reference, the Janes volume from 1980:

Photobucket" border="0" />

I visited the RAF Museum in London two years ago and photographed the Bf 109 there (Black 6, was it?) in extensive detail. She's kept imaculate. If anyone would like to see some of those shots, I'd be more than happy to post them.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Guy- That 'pit is sick, just sick!  How the heck do you do it?

Stan- Dang, you're almost ready for paint already?  Looking good so far. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike- Thanks for the pic of the gunsight, nice to see what the plug looks like for it.  Any photo of where it mounts to the IP?  Thanks!

Hi Frank --

Glad to contribute! I don't know if I have anything which shows the socket for the gunsight lead. I do have a colour illustration of the G-6 cockpit, looking forward from about headrest perspective, I'll get that one onto the thread tomorrow.

Cheers,

Mike

It yours if you want it, but i wouldnt. Its made by CMK and its really not going in my K. The fit is dire. The contour of the instrument panel is nowhere near the shape of the fuz where it fits. Its like it was made for a different model. Maybe early G's and K's have 2 different shapes and CMK were being lazy.. There is no locations for the IP to the resin sides, Even with butchery it looks like it will be a pig. So F%ck it, its in the bin. Ive ordered the new Aries Pit. At least with Aries, you know your onto a winner.

What a waste of time, Boooo.

So here is my plan of attack. All three kits going at the same time, production line style. All three are the same molds but the revell usa is full of flash. Between the kits there are three different schemes and decals. Revell germany has two choices. So it will be, yellow 7, black 11 and the all over RLM 76 scheme.

Have all the decals on the pits and on to the belts now. Once all are buttoned up it will be a mass spray session.

Right not pondering on my cockpit nightmare i thought id show how i opened up the front vents on the fuz. I think it was Frank a while ago who'd noticed id done it on my G10. Thanks BTW.

Anyhoo, heres the biddys im on about.

Firstly select the right sized drill. I didnt measure it just used the old Mk1 eyeball.

Next i pressed a centre mark for the drill, flush with the fuzz, using my sharpended tweezers. I drilled by hand rouhly at the angle in the above pic. Maybe a tad shallower.

Heres the result.

Using a sharp Swann Morton or similar (Mines not too sharp bt the way) the hole is easily opened out.

...and heres the final result. Not bad for about 10mins work.

Hmmmm we I am just ,how does Guy say it? Jiggered? I think the Aaron term is besnizzled. Anyways I spent the day reading and digging thru the stash. Did some internet shopping for 109 extras that go with what kits I dug up. Kept it under $100 bucks. Stuff adds up quick don't it?

Well found 2 109 G Monograms like sidure has his production line on. Dug out the Otaki G and you all have seen the Hasegawa kit. Only 1/48 kits I see available at squadron are the Academy ones. Was looking for the Hasegawa offerings but figure I have enough and passed on all of them. Man those Trumpeter 1/32 beast are tempting me though.  Have to be a good boy and resist!

Well I shall place my order and go from there. I sure hope I ain't caught this 109 bug going around!Dead [xx(]

It's like the "Boogie Fever, I think it's goin' around (just get on down)".  Resistance is futile!

When's the last time you got a 70's disco and a Star Trek TNG reference thrown at you in the same post?! Cool [8D]

Guy- Nice work on the air intakes, those little things really make the difference when she's finished up.

Steve- Looks like you've got a plastic version of MTT Regensburg there!

Thought I'd post a pic or two. Got her in primer for the first round of seam touch ups. A spot or two of Mr. S. 500 take good care of it.

Cut out the holes in the wheel wells and added some small details. I'm trying to figure out how to duplicate the rivets and stitching in the canvas. Any hints?

I recieved the decals from Squadron today. I'm doing yellow 25. I recieved resin bang seats for a Hawker Hunter instead of the True Details wheels I asked for. A quick phone call yielded the correct parts and they are on the way. Again.

And just because I thought it was cute here are the owners of the place in their favorite spot this time of year. They do a good job of staying off of the bench though.

Will post more later.

Mike- Thanks for checking into that for me, much appreciated! Big Smile [:D]

Guy- That's bloody awful mate! (How's my "British"?)  Cool toot on the scoops, ought to come in handy. Wink [;)]

Steve- Three at once?  YOU'RE A MADMAN!  Looks like you came to the right place!  I'll the other two to page one for you. Thumbs Up [tup]

hk- Very nice work on your kit. Thumbs Up [tup]  I opened up those holes on mine too, and was considering taking some lead foil and embossing the stitch detail into the back side of it.  Not sure how it would look, or how hard it might be to pull off.  Any other ideas anyone?  Like those decals too, especially the Hungarian "Black 16". Approve [^]

Great work coming out of here.  Guy that applies negative pressure as to draw liquid through a straw about that beautiful pit.

Here's something to try. Intsead of drilling out those little scoops, emboss the whole thing with lead foil.  Put a drop of thick CA glue inside to give it some support before oyu cut it out.  here is one I did on a Spitfire Mk XIVc.

Oh yes, now i remember. I have a feeling, Frank, that Black 2 was just a visitor to these shores. Ill have to check it out.But my God, doesnt she look peachy. They got the Paint Job, IMO, spot on. To me, she is the ipitome of gorgeous 'G' ness.

Marc. That looks like a great idea too. Whatever works for you. Do you reckon you could make em small enough for the 109's? They are tiddly.

Here is a link to a 109K Instrument Panel, in case anyone else here needs a good reference. It comes from the San Diego Air Musuem. You can read here also about it's origin and restoration.

John - great progress, many lovely pits in here....

HKS - great scratchbuild work in there....

Steve - another great pit! Really nice job

Aaron- IIRC, that IS a K-4 metal tail.

Jmart- Many thanks friend!  There really is some awesome stuff going on here.  I feel proud to be able to build with all of you. Approve [^]  Can't wait to see more pics!

I painted the interior bits on mine Sunday, and am hoping to do some weathering and such to it this weekend. Thumbs Up [tup]

I have to agree with JMart....lot's of really good stuff on display. Thumbs Up [tup]  Been making slow but steady progress on my second try at the G-14 'pit. Assembly is just about done, and I hope to take advantage of my day off tomorrow and get some paint on her. Overall I'm pleased with the way she's turning out......I think I just may pass the audition. Wink [;)]
