Thanks, guys. This was a very nice model to build. I enlarged the plan view of the stripes to 1/72, taped them over a big piece of blue tape, and cut all the triangles. Didn't work for pupu!. I ended up doing it the old fashion way with 1/8" Tamiya tape, all laid out using the trusty calipers from the drafting set.

Guns seem a little out of scale on the upside, but they are .303s from an Italeri SM79. I also scratched the beaching trolley, from a photo; the kits was not a winner. Which by the way is NOT my next RA build, and yes I'm in. This GB is as good as you-know-what.

Yes, that guy up top didn't have a good job, and the kits prop can't be rotated because it would cut through the nose. Like the teak decks?

Can't say what my next RA build is, until the auction ends. Biplane transport, land based. DeHaviland licensed.

Cap'n- Where on Earth did you find a real RA Seaplane to photograph? Confused [%-)]  For a minute there, I was expecting to see photos of your completed build but those reference pics will do nicely until then.

WAIT!!!

That IS your model!  Well done CAp'n, truly a stunning build.  I must be honest, looking at your work is truly a feast for the eyes.  Well done! Approve [^]

That is awesome there Bondo! The red stripes on the upper wing are done perfectly. See looks right at home on the slip there. Ready to go out and rescue some downed Regia Aeronautica pilots! Well done. So are you going to stick around for part two or have you had enough Italian already? That goes for you to Dave. I have'nt heard you sign up for a second round either. You know Guy is just going to harrase you until you sign up so you might as well join back up or he'll send you some wine gum as punishment!Big Smile [:D]

Signore,

The Revell/Italaerei C.R.D.A. Cant Z. 501 "Gabbiano". This is an older kit; I couldn't find a date on it. The Gabbiano was obsolete as a submarine patrol aircraft by 1941 and was replaced by the 506, but it served throughout the war in air-sea rescue. It was affectionately nicknamed "Mamma, aiuto!", which means roughly "Momma, HELP!".

Significantly smaller than a Catalina, it's a little "pocket seaplane". Photographed June 2009 .

Thank you Guy for hosting this GB and thanks to all for your fellowship.

Guy my Fokker is nearing completion and the Ha-1112 is a simple build. After that I plan on building a bunch of planes for this GB. I already have my second build picked out. A Me 109 G-6 in late war Italian IAR markings. I know Frank is going to be loving this one. I have no other GB comittments starting until December so I am going to throught the stash of Italian planes until then.

I am not sure of the colors on this G-6. Anybody have any ideas as to what colors are seen on the fuselage? For some reason the Classic Airframes G-55 came with two sets of the same decals. The other decal option on the sheet has the small devil emblem on the nose and it has the postage stamp national insignias for the IAR markings! How perfect is that!

Now that IS a great colour scheme Crusher. I have a feeling that there were some 205's that were painted similar.

So far for part 2 i have a Macchi 205 and a CANT 1007 (? I think) but im sure theres going to be a P38 and maybe even a Libby. Yuppers, i need a model room rapid!!!.

GO FOR IT!!! Big Smile [:D]

For RAGB II- I think I will continue on with the 109G-6 from part I. Blush [:I]

Ok I have definetly decided on my first build for part II of the Regia Aeronautica GB. The Classic Airframes Fiat G 55. Every time this kit is mentioned it really receives a good bashing as very inaccurate especially since Special Hobby has also tooled a 1/48 version of this plane. I do'nt know just how inaccuate it is and in what areas the deficencies are but it looks like a G 55 and that good enough for me. I can say that it is definetly not as nice as some of thier other kits that I own but it looks like all of the basics are right and I have never seen a Special Hobby kit that did'nt have its problems either. I am going to finish my Hispano Ha-1112 for the NMF GB first then I am going to put this on the bench next so it might be a bit before any progress pics are posted. here is a pic of the cool color scheme that I will be painting it in. What do you guys think?

I know, Ive seen quite a few of those builds completed and they always impress. I think it was Swanny who did a Macchi a while back that looked seriously sweet. Knowing your builds, im sure this will be a stunner as well.

As for not having them this side of the pond, that is a bummer. Did i mention i have a birthday on the 15th LOL. Whistling [:-^]

Guy- I'm still on the fence about whether to open up the canopy or not, but regardless I'm not going to do anything more than add the shoulder belts.  Too bad you can't get these bad boys over on your side of the pond they really are pretty nice for the money, I've got three Friedrich's coming in the mail.  I can see how this 1/32 stuff can be addictive, now if I can figure where to display that new Revell Ju 88A-1....Big Smile [:D]

Yey, Mikes here. The GB was a success LOL. I knew youd arrive in the end mate. With 4 days to go. We cant get those 21st Century kits here in the UK. Its a shame as they have a pretty good shape and are cheap. Your efforts so far are looking sweet. Im sure a man of your talents can spruce up the pit a treat if thats what you fancy or are you going for a closed cockpit? That would save an awfull lot of pit work?

Glad to see you over here Mike. That cockpit does'nt look that bad for an inexpensive kit. With a good airbrush job and some aftermarket decals I'll bet she looks top notch.

OK, I signed up for this one how many months ago?  Whistling [:-^]

I was in a little bit of a rut so I've decided to something a little different (for me at least), the 21st Century Toys 1/32 Bf 109G-14.  This will be a 109 flown by Maggiore Mario Bellagambi the commander of 5a Squadriglia, 2° Gruppo Caccia, "Diavoli Rossi."  Bellagambi claimed 10 kills during his career. He is generally acknowledged to be one of the most aggressive and dynamic Italian fighter pilots.

I picked up this kit on sale at Wal-Mart for the princely sum of $4.  Since a lot of people complain about the high price of modeling these days this will be a budget build to prove a point, you don't have to spend a butt load of money to have fun and produce a reasonable looking model.  I will not use any aftermarket except for markings (Sky Decals) and any mods will be restricted to materials I have on hand.

This one will also be entered in the Bf 109 Reich Defender GB.

So without further ado:

The cockpit, pretty nicely detailed, the belts were fabricated from lead foil and some old 1/24 PE racing harness hardware that I found stashed away.  The shoulder belts will go on after the fuselage is put together.

Instrument panel, not real happy with it, an Eduard color IP would be a nice upgrade.

And sidewall details, mostly OOB dressed up with some 28 gague color wire.

It's nine hours ahead of me, in Blighty, so I'll presume to speak for the comatose one. Yes, continuing builds are fine, I'm sure. "Dinner with Musso" is a good idea, I have no idea what to build but will definitely NOT do a floaty thing- way too many of those in my stable. I'm thinking airliner this time.

Oh guys....Im feeling the love. And liking the comparison to Franks GB. I think the optivisor wearing, styro stand using, God like modelling Bohemoth, has nothing to fear from our little GB.

I have increased the Deadline to next year now and ammended the front page a little. Im glad you all liked the idea of this GB. I know i did. It really grabbed me. Enough to make me only want to model Italian stuff. I have been ably helped by everyone in the GB but Aaron, your help and loonacy has gone above and beyond, soldier. Do you think you might stick around a little longer? Would ya? would ya? Ill lend you Wingus and Dingus for the weekend.

As for my modelling for the near future. Its on temporary hold. But i WILL be back!! Hopefully sooner rather than later.

All that said, lets get your models moving. Theres no rush now. So keep having fun.

Oh, 1000 ninja points for every new recruit brought to the GB.

Well with all due respect this is a drunken rabble sir and they need a little discipline. Here's the shot I took of you at the BBQ at my house this last weekend.

Mind you, the men will do a 180 quickest and become cobelligerents before you know it.

Might I suggest the deadline stands, but in fact you inaugurate an RA GB II. That would be a fine thing, and would serve notice to the 1000's who are watching, and believe me they are, that you mean business, and the Empire marches forward?
