Regia Aeronautica GB II (06/15/09 to 06/15/10)

  GUY! What's an Arione? Sounds like my name in french?  I got a bucket Guy but it's full of the other stuff and doesn't smell like roses....   No luck yet but I know she ate it cuz she acted sick afterwards.  Maybe the dog needs an antacid. I dunno! It was looking pretty bleek!  Frank is my hero!

Excellent, Congo's arrived. Youd have gotten some serious homework for your lateness in arriving, but seeing as you come with photos, your forgiven. Welcome aboard. That looks like an awfull lot of holes you had to fill.

As for painting spirals on the buses, what a fantastic idea. Perhaps it would put off the blue rinsed fossils from entering the bus.....mmmm...now theres a thought.

Finally i`m starting my Macchi. I still don`t have the custom etchings but my friend is excused for the delay, he bacame a father for the first time in the end of January. Nevermind this setback i started preping the fuselage and i think i`m done, i`ll start working on the wings this weekend. Here are some photos

The trenches were filled with Mr Surfacer 500 then wetsanded with progresively finer wet and dry sandpaper. The photos are a little older, the wholes are now filled, sanded and polished and the two halves are primed with Vallejo white aerosol primer. I`ve used that stuff for the first time and i`m generally satisfied but it leaves a little rough surface that needs aditional sanding and pollishing but it`s rock hard and doesn`t peel off even with the stickiest tape. Hopefully i`ll have more to report next week.

Frank I don't know what to say. Or how much I really appreciate that. This kit really had got me down.  I hate to be beaten and now I have another opportunity to make it right! I have a reason to go on living now you daman! How did I ever get so lucky to find as good of friends that are on here!

Sheesch I have been taking many breaks on this project. It is bad enough I have put it off for two days. Almost there

Man Aaron what else could go wrong. I would have to agree with you that clog is done. I believe amount of daage done is probally more than the kit is work. In the future the mold releasing agent for most resin kits is silicone. Gool old fasion warm water and dishwashing soap with a little scrubing will remove any silicone residue very easily. Simple Green is a degreaser and not meant to break down silicone residue. The soap works very quickly and leaves no residue. I strip my painting mistakes with brake fluid which is mostly silicone. When I am done I just take the model over to the sink soap up myhands and give the model a good washing and rinse and it is good to go for painting. Should work just as good for your resin.

Frank thank you for the great compliment but I think you have just proves agian that you are the man. That is a great jesture replacing Aaron's destroyed kit like that. I am pround to call you a freind as I am sure Aaron is too. Although I am pretty sure Guy might shed a tear when he finds out. As far as talented I am afraid you have me beat there too buddy. You models insprire me to try harder to improve mine.  As for my own squadron JG 69 Crusher sound good to me!

ha no skill here on my bench unless you count the most inventive way ever to destroy the rarest model in the stash.  Things with the BV clog have reached epic disaster level. I guess I was overdue for a flub up but I wish it hadn't happened with this particular kit. It seems that I have systematically ruint every useable part of this kit.  First I fall and smash it then the dog eats whats left and now in my frustration I had left the man parts of the body in he goo for too long.  I was trying to clean of al the mold release agents and forgot I had left them  soaking. The kit was so large that I put them in a dishpan with my old lawnmower gasoline but they have been left in there for two full days.

Good news is no more mold release agent. Bad news is the resin kinda cracked like old paint.

I wet sanded it with lighter fluid and got it smooth enough for A coat of Mr surfacer. It will take a lot as this is a big kit.  Took about 2hours just to smooth out the tail boom and even then a closer look reveals cracks and such not to mention I can't get the smell of petrol out of my nose.

 This is about as close as I can get with the camera I have but you can see how the nice cram colored resin has yellowed and cracked. Most of the scribbed fine details are lost in the process. I wonder if you can rescribe resin like plastic?

I dunno I think it is a bust at this point. Like one thing fed of the other to eat up this great kit. Bottom line is I probably wasn't ready to tackle a full limited run resin kit.

Perhaps I can collect comic books.

Think I will set it to the side and after some recovery time try another plastic kit. I have to get my mojo back after wrecking this nice kit.

Nice haul Sean!  Especially that DML HO 229!!   I've got the RevGer 1/72 kit in the stash awaiting it's turn. 

I really can't complain about the cats too much.  Other than the one incident (in which it was being tortured) there has not been much damage.  I do try to take care and not leave stuff out though. 

Dave & Bondo -  My Daughters cat had a near death experience not to long back. I was working on a kit and she kept wanting to jump up on my lap. After "scramming" her out several times  I went back to work. Then I heard this crunch from my shelf, I looked over and saw her sitting right on top of a ME 109 with a smirk . I let out such an exclamation that the neighbors started having a weekly bible study ever since.  I was able to repair the broken prop blades , antenna and landing gear. The cat now has a harness and if she acts up - off on a lead far away from my area.

What a Great Mail Day today was, I got the Mike Grant 1/72 smoke rings  -Time to get  Back to work on the Chi~205 !

Also recieved a DML Horten 229 A-1 flying wing and another Parcel containing a TamiyaFW 190 A8/A8R2 Yippee  

The Cant Z is in the paintbooth with theunderside of the fuse and wings painted. Time for the dreaded masking now..

Cats! Around here there's a bounty on 'em!

My Airfix control tower crashed and burned almost immediately after I got my pics and posted in the BoB GB. Set it on top of a packing case in the garage that someone needed to get into in the dark. Luckily I salvaged the PE- turns out the superglue was only a so-so bonder. And the base kit costs what?- 10 bucks from Squadron. So it will live to fight another day!

Aaron, nasty luck there with the crash and the doggy doo.  The dog looks like its getting ready to take a dump on something and I hope its not on pieces of the clog.  We wouldn't want a model that stinks out the room now would we.  I don't think any amount of simple green would get that smell out. 

As for the crash I remember a few years back when I was just getting back into modeling when my daughter chased one of our cats into the workshop area and the cat decided to scramble up my shelves to escape my daughter.  Well you can guess what happened.  Models and model parts everywhere and the worst of it was some reference books fell on a model ship that I had spent two months on with a full PE set.    Not as deadly as your big butt I'm sure but very discouraging none the less.  That is why my models are now in a locked glass cabinet.

Oh ya, I don't care if it is my fault I'm not working the pooper scooper for your mutt. 

Geez Aarron, your really having the sh1tty end of the stick with this kit. I think thats the joy of having a smaller stash. I can keep mine in a cupboard, well 2 cupboards. So wingus and dingus whizzing around like devishes doesnt effect my stash in the least. Also we dont have that many guns over here.

Dont give up big boy, get your rubber gloves on and its prunes for fido. Youll soon come up smelling of roses. LOL.

Summit, if theres donations to be made, i know of a really needy chap in the UK That would realy love that kit Cant remember his name, but hes a damn handsome lad, and everyone thinks hes ace and wants to be his son.

Aaron- Sheesch what a terrible chain of events. It is like that kit is possesed - As the Waterboy's Momma would say "It's the Devil"   If I was you I would just chunk that kit curbside (looks like you need the snowshovel and some black bags also) and break the Karma before it moves on to your nect project. I am going to donate my BV- 138 to the club as I dont even want a spell of luck like you have had in my modeling area.  (I had a heck of a time with the "Stuka" that I used the borrowed Balkenkreuz's on come to thiunk of it )

I hope your Dog will be ok as he/she looks like a friendy sort.

Getting there Steve!  I just got home and had left my nicely sorted resin pieces and parts in these minature ziplock bags my wife had svaed for me at her work for holding jewelry. Look what I saw when I got home! I left my door open!

 Resin parts all over creation!   and the worst part is the bag of undamaged ones...... missing!  Seems very likely that they have been ingested!  I was going to exlax the dog but the wife says chocolate stuff kills them! Well I sure wouldn't want it to die but now it seems I am going to have to follow this thing outside and  er examine the dog by products to recover my resin parts bag! Maybe Dave will volunteer to sift for me since this is all obviously his fault!

I've had it and am going to bed. Wake me up when September ends....

Man Aaron looks like you had a bad afternoon. It amazing how we can go from getting a cool huge stash of models on day and the next day watching one of your prized stash get pulverized right in front of your eyes. That really sucks. I hope your butt is ok and was not damaged by any of the models. Is it salvagable? It reminds me of the time my newly finished 1/24 scale Airfix Stuka decided to roll backward of the shelf and wedge itself between the wall and the cabinet. I got lucky that no parts actually broke but a handfull of them came unglued. Hope you can salvage it.

Guy does this absolve him from his punishment? I think he has suffered enough do'nt you?

 Geeze look at this mess! The decals were still in the plastic in the box bottom and the broken resin smashed and scratched them too! I'm going to have to replace them!  Can anyone scan me a set?  You can read braille on these!

 Thanks Fellows no rifles were harmed during the production of this event. The resin pats took a real beating. They were so thin and delicate and the impact so harsh it imbedded them into the bottom of the box. Right now I am sorting through things like a big puzzle and putting the unbroken ones in a separate little bag and all the pieces of the others  into separate zip lock bags so I can try to super glue them back together or something.

I don't know how but someway this is Dave's fault!
