Andy - welcome aboard ..... let me know whcih Sherman you decide on so I can update the site.

Bill - Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green is a good choice for the Firefly Vc but if you want to use O.D. ... I'd suggest Tamiya XF-62.

I guess I'd better start laying in some o.d. paint. I don't have any idea what to get though. Give me a clue here, Robert!

Robert,

JoAnne's forum name will be... JoAnne. She can change it to something like Kickbutt1 later if she wants to.... Like when she's 18.

gnsnow - Welcome to the Group Build!!!!! Always room for more Shermans.

The Tamiya M4A3 is a great kit to work with. The build up is very straight forward and is (as always with Tamiya) very well engineered. But with all kits there's always some room for improvement. It depends on how far you want to take these improvements though. If you're not a stickler for little things like weld beads and scale thicknesses, the only thing I would do to the kit is add the bottom plate on the sponsons. Tamiya, for some unknown reason, doesn't want to put these on a lot of their kits. It's an easy fix and here's a link to a template that makes it even easier. http://www.archertransfers.com/WEB%20pictures/ShermanFix.pdf
This kit, with this small addition, looks great built O.O.B.

Look forward to seeing these pics you have .... just can't get enough Sherman reference pics.

Frosty - don't get in a rush ... the 15th is not written in stone .... plenty of time to complete your Panther build before concentrating on your Sherman.

I guess this as good a time as any to start my sherman, I'm doing a standard M4A3 from the Tamiya kit along with an M5 stuart modified from the AFV M3A3 kit (tribute for a WWII vet driver).

I logged on to ask anyway (specifically to you shermanfreak), what corrections/changes need to be made to the Tamiya kit?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. - I'm a full time student right now, and I'm finishing up a scratchbuilt 1:96 USS Flasher, so I have good reason to be a slow pokie.

Also, I have photos of a Sherman variant I'm not familiar with, an open topped mobile howitzer unit. I'll dig them up and make them available online, if anyone is interested.

Welcome aboard Dan ..... I'll add you to the website when I add Tena and JoAnne.

Those pics that I posted earlier in the thread should be of interest to you. Just don't use the markings that are pictured on the tank.

Hi Robert and everyone...
I dug into my closet and found a Dragon 1/35 scale M-50 Sherman tank that I thought would be fun to build.
Regards, Dan

Welcome to the group build Tena & Jo-Anne. Good to have you ladies join us.

Before I add you to the website .... do you have screen names from FSM set up yet.

Jo-Anne - careful with the Marine Corps M4 ... it makes a very decent M4A3, but a lousy M4A2 and M4.

Thanks for the pics Ron.

JoAnne is 16, my son Alex is 14. This will be Jo's second Sherman. ... Alex's third?

I posted an interior shot of the M10's driver's compartment and a few other photos at: http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/upload?page=3

Sorry, I can't import them to this site.... tried, but I can't bring up the URL. I'm soDead [xx(] with computers! Robert, I put a Grizzly loaded onto a transport up there for you too. (It's a good ol' tank, I've driven and crewed it several times).

Weird thing about those M10 photos, I thought I took all sorts of shots inside of that old thing and can only find the driver's compartment. I was assigned to drive an M5A1 at the time and must have thought to do it, but gotten hurried into my tank before I could.

Sure Robert, screw your buddy... LOL! I never seriously expected anybody to stop posting, much less leave town in order to meet my request! (Thanks RAF120). Guard was a lot of fun and the weekend went fast. On Friday night I found my package from Squadron, my engine compartment for the M4 and other stuff!

Also Robert, my daughter, JoAnne would like to join us (as well as Tena). She'd like to do the Italieri M4 (USMC version). I have the kit for her, but haven't opened the box yet.

Glad to be back!

Make sure you get the O.D. green florists foam if you have to go this way. It'll save you the time of painting and give you more carving time. Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

our prosthetic foam for shaping artificial legs is green so no worries Big Smile [:D]
