Aaron: Thanks for the info on the Monogram kit. Might have to pick one up sometime. For being a real PITA kit, your 262 is looking mighty fine. The added detail really looks good on the engine even when it is mounted. Maybe you need to get yourself the Tamiya to ease the pain a little. Wink [;)]

Dave: Nice work on the pit! And I like the looks of the 1099. Very bulbous.

Guy: I am liking the the looks of that barrel. The detail on the muzzle brake looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing you start!

Mike(luftwaffle): "Red 2" will look sweet! The nose looks like it fit very well and the gear bay looks great. And you are correct about 10./NJG 11's kills. I think Kurt Welter actually scored most of his jet kills in a single seat radar-equipped 262 (V 056 I believe) when it was just Kommando Welter in the search light beams.

Karl: I don't believe I know very much about the V5. Fixed undercarriage? On a 262? Confused [%-)] I just knew about the tail-sitters before they switched to nose wheels. Just off the top of my head, some other cool and unique ones (IMO) are the tail-sitters, the V9, the one with the BMW-003Rs, and the A-1a/U5.

Karl, Clucking bell is spot on. As for the resin, it is glorious. There is even detail, loads of it in the wheel well. Hopefully the resin lump wont warrant any extra weight as they do need it these trikes.

Frank, Ive seen some of  your mates stuff online. Hes definately a genius in the RC building scene. My biggest bird was a 100" P-38 with a pair of 45cc's in it. Ive a photo hereabouts, ill post it up.

Dave, the pit is looking great.

That 1099 looks like the 262 that ate all the pies!Burger [BG]

Aaron, looks like you're taming the troublesome Hase.

Mike, nice job on the wheel bays.

I never understood why Revell went to all the trouble to detail the underside of the cockpit tub and the inner fuselage, and then sealed it all up! But then who's to say what those crazy German/Texans get up to!Wink [;)]

Guy, £25 for a transfer!Shock [:O]Rhymes with clucking bell!

Top quality resin and brass by the looks of it though.

I've been poring over a number of 262 related books over the last week, but still don't know what I'm going to go for. The V5 prototype with fixed undercarriage looks interesting though.Evil [}:)]

Man, you guys are moving right along!

Aaron, love the way you exposed all that engine detail. Serious stuff, and you make it look easy!

Dave, you are the braille scale master Bow [bow]. That office is stunning!!

Guy, I'm seriously looking forward to seeing that conversion fitted to your 262. The molds look flawless. That's some major firepower on display, and a version of the 262 we don't often get to see modeled. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mikester, another braille scale gem. Love the way you opened the gear bay up. Shame to hide all that detail. Looks like a lot of work, but it's a treat for the eyes!

Should have some pics up myself by the weekend. Hope they measure up, because the bar here keeps gettin' higher & higher. Carry on, guys! Great stuff, and an honor to be part of! Bow [bow]

Guy that is going to be one cool conversion. i find that unbelievable that you had to pay 25 pounds to do a wire transfer. I use to do some exporting to South America back in the 90's and most of these customers payed by bank transfer. I was never charge a fee and I do not believe they were either. I do not pay for any services at my local bank. I do not even have to pay for money orders if I order from someone who does not take credit cards because my bank provides cashier checks to me for free.

Dave working in brail scale agian? The cockpit is looking good. Hans und Franz need a little paint.

Mike looks like your beating that kit into submission.

Aaron the mad scientist is once agian proving that sleep is highly over rated and is probally painting as we speak! yes I'm still watching you bud!

Well I finally finshed my G-55 for the RA GB and I think I want to start my 262 next before starting my second entry for the RA GB. So off I go pip pip cheerio!Big Smile [:D]

Aaron- You gotta remember that kit's pushing 40!  It does build up nice with some elbow grease though! (coming from a guy too lazy to build it!)

Dave- Sheez, thanks!  I think I'll throw mine in the dumpster after seeing your interior, great work!

Guy- That cannon looks awesome, great project!

I received my decals from Squadron yesterday, I'll be doing Kurt Welter's "Red 10" and this one will be Karl-Heinz Becker's "Red 2".  I was immediately drawn to "Red 2" because a black bottomed 262A just looks sinister!  Most of 10./NJG 11 kills were actually in single seat 262A's without radar being directed by ground controllers vise the 262B's that had on board radar.

Got the CMK resin nose grafted on, pretty happy with the fit, only required a minimal amount of filler.

Wheel bay detail.  Revell does some strange stuff with their 1/72 kits.  The bottom of the cockpit tub and and the interior of the fuselage are detailed but the wheel bays in the wings are molded over, incorrectly portraying how it should look and obscuring all the detail.  Opened them up with a Dremel, you can see where I got a little carried away, but the interior gear doors should cover that up once installed.

Great stuff guys!  Aaron and Dave, good to see your progress pics.  I want to start on mine, but am trying to finish up some other projects first. Disapprove [V]

Guy- That set looks fantisimo.  Ultra smooth resin, and that muzzle brake- WOW!  All eyes are watching that one. Approve [^]

I used to fly RC as well, and had the pleasure of flying with a man named Carl Bachhuber.  Those planes were HUUUUUGE!  Saw the HE-11, Lanc, B-24, and B-17 in the air.  Incredible stuff!

Im With Bondillykins, the P1099 looks far to bulbous and ungainly to get about sweetly. It would have probably weighed half as much again as the 262, and the engines wernt great on that. Unless Messys sorted out the dodgyness of the motors and improved thier power and reliability, i think the 1099 would have struggled...a bit.

Dave, the pit looks great. In the devine scale, im sure the decals will be more than adequate. It looks good blown up on the screen, i bet it looks even better in the flesh.

Aaron, did you manage to get ANY sleep at all? Im imagining you spraying now while everyone else in the house is fast asleep. Finished pics tonight then, yeh?

Heres the pics from Modelbau of my U/4 conversion. The guy sent the bits without my payment 1st. I thought this would be easy, go to my bank, heres the IBAN number..send the dosh. Nope, it costs £25 to do the transfer, then theres the 13 euros on top. Geez. I said to the bod at the bank, how are you sending the money? By Bike? even then £25 would be steep. The guy  at Modelbau says he couldnt understand why we (The British) would charge that as in Germany he gets and send loads of cash, for gratis. Rip off Britain, theres your answer, anyhoo, rant over, Pics,

All the U/C doors are there as well. Remember these were twist and turns, like a P-40 to make room for the Huuuuge Panzerknacker

Aaron, Great pic of the RC 262, but in the words of Crocadile Dundee (Ish) Thats not a Knife (262) this is a knife (262),

wpd3c33817_1b.jpg

I was big into RC for a long while and had the great pleasure in meeting these Nutjobs, theyre called the Ghost squadron, and love nothing better than building huuuuge Warbirds. Thier 262 is the 2nd generation as the 1st 'Died' in an Airstrike!! Litterally!!. It hit a bird on takeoff and went in distroyed completely. These jets run on parafin which ignites in a crash, Ouchy. Heres the link to the rest of thier stuff,

Geez thats the biggest post for me in a long time. Ill shut up now.

Like a Winnebago in a strong crosswind on the Golden Gate Bridge, I'm sure. What a good subject, right scale too.

Dave my Hase S-92 is a twin of yours. It has the two seat tub, but a weird insert that fills up the rear half of the cockpit, the opening in the fuse and glues flush to the underside of the rear canopy. I wish it came with the double canopy, but it didn't. Didn't get little czecho guys either. It's a pretty basic little office, isn't it.

Dave!  Great stuff! I was getting lonely sanding all by meself!  Karl has been hiding out!  Frank is still tied to the bedpost and Bondo is  walking on the water. Er I meant by the water!  Really looks like one wild aircraft did it have any history? Or just a paper would have been?

Hey thanks for the encouragement fellows. I think I got frustrated more because I have to fix rather than I can't.  My attitude is this thing  runs about the price of the Tamiya and goes together like a short run CA G-55! Wink [;)] Kinda makes me feel a little ripped off!  That's what I get for not reading the reviews! LOL!

Took a pill gonna try for some sleep tonight as well. Still feel wide awake though.

Got a good join and started on the seams and they are already vanishing.

Got a bit over zealous cuz I mean't to add some details , hydrolic lines extc to the wheel wells and now will have to do it the hard way. That's ok  It's Daves fault I reckon!

Got it to where once dry a final sanding and a coat of MS should smooth it over nicely. Have to use lots of tape to protect the raised details though. ( While sanding.)

Well Night all!

Okay, actually had some relatively free time this evening so I dived into the 1/72 Hasegawa Me 262B-1a/U1.  Typical for it's time the pit is pretty basic and as this is a OOB build for me it is going to stay that way.  No AMS here! Smile [:)]  Basically a tub, seats, stick and decals for instruments which look basically like, well... decals.  Oh well, a shot of dull coat and some dry brushing and that will be that.  The two dudes are going in too so you won't really see much else anyway.

Hmmm Someone say Texas? Evil [}:)] My e-mails are messing up getting nothing at all from the forum after getting quintuplits of each yesterday.  Kinda a mess?  ANyways got a little work done today. Looks like a little but this is one model that takes a lot of elbow grease!

This is one Hasegawa moldel that did not do much for their reputation in my eyes.  Vague instuctions and Ill fitting parts are making it a challenge to get together.  I thought this one was going to be easy? Thumbs Down [tdn]Confused [%-)] Nope fraid not. I wouldn't recoomend this kit  to anyone.  Waste of $. In my eyes.

Worked othe wing today. A Strange mating of parts to create it. A lot of force and CA to hold things together and somehow keep it straight and looking like a wing and not a batarang!

Still have to permanently fix the engines but will probably hold off until the major sanding and painting is done.

I usually can make things fit pretty good but these are trying my patience!

Got it down to filling and sanding seams which will be easy enough . More disturbing is the fit of the Fuselage to the wing?  After some work I can force a good mating of the topside but oh the bottom!  I see why they give you the bombs to cover the gaps but I'll just fill em as usual.  There is space around the entire join?  Crazy to fit it as is would create a positive dyhedral in the wing that would make this look like some experimental craft?  Oh well more fixing.

Like I said got the top join looking ok and the bottom fixable!  I think it's a wonder Hasegawa even markets this under their company name. What a shame. Oh well Until next time. Hope my forum mails come back soon!

Someone who has way to much money and time on his hands Sarge! Heck if you are going top go that far you might as well buy one of the reproduction 262's that are being built in Germany right now. Has anyone here seen one of them in person? It looks like the real thing. The first pics I saw I thought they were real Me 262's. I did not find out until later that they were reproductions.

I built the Monogram one as a child a few days back now. I was thinking of trying to find the parts. Memory wise It seemed as good as any other Monogram kit of the time. Probably more little things in it than in this 1/32 Hasegawa kit.  I shall have to see. I think it even came with it's own engine and 2 standing crew fellows that were pretty nice.  Outta try and find a new one may be worth the fun. The intrest in the Tamyia kit has me stoked though!

What in the world is this?

Looks great but I thought we were building this? Oh dear!
