I'm going to begin with a 1/72 Revell Vickers Wellington I stared in January. I did the minimal interior and for some reason that was it, so this seems like a good excuse to get it going again.

This is the kit, it is a rebox of the Matchbox kit.

This is what I did back in January.

Well. I just bit the bullet and purchased a Pavla resin cockpit/interior detail set for my PV-1 Ventura off ebay. I've been tossing this about for awhile as this detail set is pricey ($33,00 was best deal) and I could only find it at locations in the UK. I debated it also in that much of the detail will likely be hidden in the interior. On the plus side, it provides bombay detail that is completely absent from the kit. What's the sense in building a bomber if you can't display the goods. It will also enhance the gunner stations. This will also be the first time I have ever worked with resin so I'm up for some further bending in my learning curve. Although this may delay my progress a bit I'll still get some work done on the wings and landing gear until the set arrives.

I greatly appreciate the words of luck Travis but the fact is my situation is quite the opposite. I've recently picked up 3 jobs whose hours are increasing as winter releases its icey grip. Thusly my modeling time is at a premium. I found that the power of patience, perseverence and positve thinking has its rewards. So just hang in there Fighterguy.

I had read here on the forums about the positive aspects of using body putty, namely 3M blue acrylic, and wanted to give it a try. I used Mr. Surfacer 500 and Mr Surface Putty for the first time on my 1/48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon that I'm finishing up. These work wonders on things like sink holes and other small scratches and pits. I'm always trying out new materials and methods as filling and sanding is an area that I need to improve upon.

Thanks for the oppurtunity to share with you all. Joe

Sorry to hear about the tough times guys! Joe I used autobody "glazing putty from the auto shop. I thinned it out with some rubbing alcohol. I am still getting the system down, but this is by far one of the better jobs I have done.

The putty was super cheap and I actually read about it in an old Kalmbach model building boodk I picked up at the library. I guess some of the old tips still work great. Thanks for the positive comments. More picks to come.

Good luck to you guys and the job situations.

Hey Travis that is looking awesome. Nice job on the seam. I'm going to be trying some 3M Blue body putty myself. What kind did you use? Compared to me your making outstanding progress. I've got a changing employment world right now so I haven't been able to get very far on my PV-1 at all. Keep us updated.

Well not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but here are some pics of the f-111. I had some serious filling and sanding to do. unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the before and after sanding. I have the first coat of paint for the Camo scheme. The colors are Gunze RLM 71, RLM 79, and Tamiya XF-58. There will be Tamiya black for the nose and bottom.

Here is a close up of the biggest seam I had. This was the area where the front fusilage and rear came together. I am pretty happy with the look with the paint added.

I plan on doing som light sanding with 2000 grit all over and then paint the second coat of colors. Still som grey primer comming though in spots. I have to hit the gear bays and gear with gloss white. More to come.

Hello all. Sorry I haven't been able to post any pics lately. The build is progressing slowly ith the F-111. I hit a couple areas with primer just to see how well the sanding turned out. still need to smooth some spots out. Lots of gaps to fill. I am starting to wish maybe I had picked the Hasegawa kit!Huh? I guess this is good for building my skills.

One good thing I started to try with this kit was "auto glazing putty." It seems to work alot better that the Squadron stuff I have. Not to mention the cost difference. I hope to have some pics up within a day or so.

Hope everyone else is having a better time than me.

Stick and Fighter,

The front half of the fusalage (cockpit, etc) had a smooth flat end that matched a similar smooth flat end. The instructions then had me build up the side wall and bottom of the A/C. I couldn't even think of making an internal framework! I just used CA some patients and lots of putty! Big Smile Looks good. Still more sanding and putty work to go.

The intakes have some gaps that need work now. They should be a simple fix. I will have pictures up by Monday.

Helle all! well I ran into my first snag with the F-111F build. The front part and rear part of the fusilage are a multiple peice assembly. There are no "hard" points to conect them and it is made of 3 pieces aside from the 2 fusilage halves. I will need some CA "kicker" when I build the EF-111 version of the same kit!

Needless to say there will be more puttyand sanding work in the future. For no the kit is sitting and the CA is drying on the flimsy parts. More to come!

I also use Photobucket Travis and I only have a Kodak Easyshare camera so not only will the GB help my modeling skills I hope to improve some of my shutterbugging. On my last post I forgot to size my photo on photobucket for the post so here is an enlargement.

Joe,

Can't wait to see the build on the Ventura. The pic posting is new for me and I am still working at it. My camera could be better, just doesn't want to pick up the detail on those close ups. I have been using Photobucket.com. It is a free site that is REALLY user friendly. Good luck. I am really looking forward to seing some of the builds.

Here's a pre game peek at my 1/72 Minicraft PV-1 Ventura. I've had this kit in my stash for nearly 20 yrs and it has survived 3 moves. I'm rather stoked to find some motivation with this GP to finally build it. At the moment I'm planning on an OOB build as aftermarket stuff for this kit is non-exsistant although I have some PE seatbelts on order from Squadron. If inspiration strikes me along with some decent reference I may give some scratchbuild a whirl. If anyone has a lead on good reference material, sites or aftermarket parts please give a holler. I've already got the Squadron In Action and Osprey Units books that are fairly deceent.

This is also a test for me for posting photos as well as taking them. I am open to all sorts of tips for my first group build. Thanks Everyone.

Thanks Fighterguru. I will tweak it some more. I just realized that the actual name is the "Bomber Stash GB."

Got to do some work on the F-111 today. Here are some pics of the Cockpit. I added foil belts. Pretty nice detail for a 1/72 kit.
