2010 Airliner Group Build

I'll finish my Minicraft 1/144 Boeing 314 "China Clipper", its still in lots of pieces so should easily meet the less than 50% rule.

I've got a question, you mention the VH-60 as not meeting the requirement since it is basically a military only helo. Since the S-58 (H-34) and S-61 (H-3) have been used for commercial passenger use, then the VH-3 and VH-34 would be acceptable correct?

Nice catch, Aaron! Yes, in fact, that's the reason I mentioned the VH-60, because I knew other Marine One models had been used commercially.

Well then I might sneak in a VH-34 later depending on if the mood is right.

Not sure what I want to build.  Im headed to AHS this week or next so maybe Ill grab something for the GB.  I will post when I figure out what I want to do.

I think Ive narrowed it down to super vc-10, 752 or 732.  The svc-10 would be Welsh fuse, Bra.z engines and leading edge fix, and Airfix wings, stabs, gear and bits.  752 would be Contrails and 732 would be Airfix.  The 752 and 732 woud be oob.

I'm not entering this build, because it's definitely more than 50% finished, but I'll throw it on here for sharing/inspiration purposes.

This is the Braniff 707 "Jellybean" jet that whupped my but during the 2008 Airliner group build. I'm going to finish it, but for this build I'm going to enter another jellybean jet.

Here's what I'm going for...for some reasons, real pics of the original orange 707s are hard to find:

 There's a white glare line here that looks like a nasty seam, but I'm glad to report that it's an optical illusion, as you'll see in the next shot. It took me forever to deal with the upper fuselage seam, but now it's smoother than the proverbial baby's bottom. Thank you Bondo glazing compound!

Unfortunately, this plane suffers from the worst masking job I've done in a long time. Guess I need to read that masking article in this month's issue about eight times.

She's got bad paint and needs a bath, but she's mine and I WILL finish her, by hook or by crook.

What kit is that?  I have a couple of kits that I need to finish before I decide what Im going to build.  Still havent managed to get to AHS either(.

It's the Minicraft 707 in 1/144. They released a bunch of different schemes, including the Braniff jellybeans, Lufthansa, Pan Am and a Northwest Orient Combi with a cargo door.  

Good news: They're cheap, seem pretty accurate (I was a KC-135 crew chief) and have nice recessed detail.

Bad news: They're Minicraft. Nasty seams.

What qualifies as less than 50%?  I got several Boeing 7X7 series that are put together, i.e. fuselodge and wings glued together but not attached to another.  Some have primer coats on.  If not I have an A380 getting shipped to me.

This GB is a nice surprise!!! IF (and that is a big one), I see I can join I have several to choose from in my stash. A Monogram 1/48 DC-3, an Italeri, 1/72 Ju-52 (civil). Big question here CD!!! I also have Heller's 1/72 DC-6B that I had started, (WELL below the 50% mark btw) that I have started to convert to a DC-6 (short fuse hence no submodel) fire tanker (Tanker 68) and was wondering if that would be permissable?

Ive decided to go ahead with a Minicraft MD-80.  I wil be working on it today and will post pics later.

I managed to get some work done and I should hopefully be at a poit to post some update pics soon.

I'm in with a 1/72 DC-4 using the Heller DC-6 kit and Dana Kopher's conversion bits.  I also have a Heller 1049 Constellation to do but I'm not sure I'll get time to do both.

OOOOO John, will be looking forward to that build!!!! I have heard it done before and know that you can pull it off!!! I have the Connie too, but under the Airfix flag. From what I have read and pics I have seen, I'm sure it's the same kit.

The fire tanker i mentioned before, Tanker 68, is an ex-American Airlines bird. It wore remnants of it's lineage up until the end. Sadly it was broken up a few years ago.

Put me down for the A380.  I've got three other GB to finish up before I can start this one, but two of them on in the paint stage so it shouldn't be too long before I can get to it.

Its a 1/144 Revell A380-800.  The livery is going to be Qantas.

B-17 Pilot-- Roger that and welcome aboard.

Well I kinda got anxious to start on my A380 so I pulled it out ahead of schedule.  Since the Qantas decals come with windows for the cabin and cockpit, I am filling in all the windows for a nice smooth surface for them to lie on.  I got the half of the main gear and nose gear put together along with some of the engines.  I put the cockpit tub the kit provided together, but I am not going to paint it or anything, just going to use it for structure support, since I have decals for the cockpit windows.

Put plastic sheet behind all the windows to provide support for the putty later (man there's a lot of windows)

The inner compression camber of the engines, all with some gear struts waiting for their coat of alunimum.  The cockpit tub as mentioned well be left unpainted.

If I can find good enough documentation I will do the DC-4 in the colors that Ernie Gann flew it in, Matson Lines.  The Constellation I think will be in Eastern colors.

Some progress has been made:  Got the fuselodge joined and the wings together.  The engine cores have been painted and are drying.  Hopefully I can get a lot further over the holiday weekend.

B17 she's coming along well!!!! Looking forward to seeing the giant rat on the tail!!!
