Slow progress, but progress nonetheless. Put the engines together and the cabin windows puttied over, though after a quick sand, looks like I need to go back and recover a couple of 'em. Got a test fit of the parts to check for any fit problems later. Still need to putty the seams on the fuse, wings and engines.

Progress Update: Wings have been attached and got her all ready to be painted. Still debating if'n I should put a gray primer on her first before the white goes on. Need to check seams and cover the landing gear and exhaust cones on the engines. Any way here she is all ready to be painted.

Really great progress B17!!!! I think I would put a flat white primer on rather than a gray. Any light spots would show up like a sore thumb!!!!! Anyway you look at it it is going to be a fair amount of paint!!!

A vast majority of airline kits come with decals for the windows. A couple give you the option of the precut windows, or decals.
Easy way, buy a decal sheet for them. Check here: http://www.airline-hobby.com
I entered but didn't finish the last one of these. I just started a Minicraft 737-300 last week. Can I sign on?

its just a load of holes do i need to fill them in? if so what do i use?
If you are going to use the window decals, you will have to fill them in. Go up a couple of posts and look at my A380, I filled in the windows on it. I put a piece of sheet styrene behind the windows before joining the fuselodge, then I filled in the windows with putty and sanded them flush with the side. There are other ways of doing it I'm sure, but that's just the way I did it on that aircraft. You might come up with a better way.

More the merrier I say!
After three coats of white, the tail was painted red. Though during the process of getting the tail painted, I broke off the lower half of the nose gear and the carpet monster ate it. After debating which I felt more angry about (breaking it off or losing it), I found another A380 kit on sale and its being shipped to me. A quick copy of the nose gear and good has new.
Then I started masking to paint the wings and what do you know I got to repaint the red on the bottom What's that old saying, two steps forward, one step back? well I think at the moment its two back, one forward. Hopefully no more issues will arrise and things will go smoothly
The top looks good though, see for your self (note the nose down incline due to the broken nose gear)

that was a bloody great hole with an enormous gap between the tail fin the front part was also quite a bit thinner than the rear it took me ages to get it like this and im pretty happy about it tbh
im also trying something a bit different with the stand it comes black im trying gunmetal gray on it to see how it looks what dya reckon? ps it looks patchy as hell in the pic but it isnt at all in the flesh
if anybody tells you the concordes a small plane give em a slap the vulcan is hardly a tiddler and its dwarfed by concorde!!
ps im using xf53 as a primer/undercoat it shows up EVERY flaw in the filling/sanding!

There's a gold strip on the 747s? Is that the old paint scheme or the new one when the 380s came out? The 380 doesn't have the gold strip and the photos I've seen of the 747s on airliners.net don't look like they have a gold stip.
Well it is the most recent scheme. I found this pic of VH-OJD which I have worked on several times, I call her Oh Jack Daniels lol. Shows the gold stripe up to the leading edge of the vertical. I will see if I can dig up any info to see if the stripe is on the 380's as well.
From what I could see on airliners.net I don't think the 380's have the stripe. Will have to take a bit more notice of whether all the 747's have it. We have an ER in the hangar at the moment so will have a look later this morning.
That looks like the old scheme from the '90s. When the 380 came out, Qantas stylized the kangaroo and letters and begin reapainting their birds to match and in the process got rid of the gold stripe. A lot of the airlines that bought the 380, created a new paint scheme for the bird, and the scheme now is slowly filtering down throughout the rest of their fleets. I did some photo look up over airliners.net and found that gold stripe on the 747 and it was on the old scheme and not on the new scheme.

LOL I bloody work on the things and didn't even notice!!!!! Yes you are absolutely correct. I talked to a mate in the paintshop and confirmed what you just said. Geez i need to pay more attention to what they are doing to these birds!!!
I guess if you stare at them all day you kinda get used to something being there and just don't notice when its gone. What work do you do on the birds? Is it just 747s or the whole fleet?
Just 747's really, although I did work on one 737 as well. My trade is sheetmetal, but have done ALOT of other work as well. Mostly mechanical, and some hydraulics. Even get to be a grease monkey lubing the flight controls and landing gear. Must say I like working on the CF-6 engined ones much better than the Rotating Rubbish powered ones.
SimPilot - That's great, what a great job, hanging around airplanes all day long. Would really like to go tour the Boeing plant in Everett one of these days.
Got the nose gear fixed. Since I did break it off and luckly broke it off at the pivot point, I went ahead and turned the nose gear to the right. Deffintely will look different when done. Now here's to hoping I don't break this nose gear off.
Sorry been pretty busy lately, I took some pics on my phone as I forgot my camera and realized I didn't have a usb cable for my new phone. So will try and work on getting those images transferred over to my phone I DO have a usb for. Or try and get some more pics on cam 2mora. Anyway I will post some detail pics for you fellas.
B17 those are some massive nose sterring actuators on that gear. A nice recovery from the breakage!!!
OK so just ran into a dilemma. While working on the landing gear, I noticed that the kit supplied main gear doors for the ones attached to the fuselodge, are not right. According to pictures over at airliners.net, the doors are suppose leave a hole for the strut and be flush with the fuselodge, not to the side of the gear exposing the gear bay asin the instructions. Still undecided on whether I should modify the gear doors to make it look right or go with the kits instructions since painted the doors when I painted the aircraft.
Well after looking at many pictures, I saw that it was an esay fix to make it look like the real one. After the a quick cut I added the doors. Here it is all done and looking like the real thing
