Thanks everyone for your comments I got alot done today. The wing was very difficult to assemble. Actualy everything on this kit has been a challenge. If someone new to this hobby picked this kit up as thier fist build they might have gave up on it. Bang Head Steve the belts are photoetch from the Dragon kit. I dont see a radiator screen in front of cowl behind the spinner dont know how to make that any help there would be welcome. here are more pics  Thanks

Nice progress Nomad, I have to get one of those some day.

Well fellas, Im calling this one done. Finished with all the fiddly bits tonight. Im working on a display for it and should be done with it soon so I will post pics when thats done also. So for a quick recap. This is the Eduard 1/48 A-8, its built OOB except for some brake lines added and some extra plumming for the engine. Finished with MM enamels with a panel wash and pastel chalks for weathering. Once you get past the wing fit and forward fuselage issues the rest is a breeze and the level of detail is excellent. So here she is.

and as I was taking the pics I broke off a flap so now I can reset it up to have them offset

I had a blast doing this kit, my first Eduard. Its great building with all you guys and always fun and some great work going on in here.

Thanks Frank for doing the usuall bang up job on this GB and I am already looking forward to #IV. Now where is that D-9 I have in the stash that I may build for another entry. Till then I have a Do 24 to build for the BOB build

Thanks for looking and all comments and critique are always welcome

Damon---I feel your pain.  Your Ta152H-1 l hope it will turn out better than mine.  I agree wholeheartedly that the GB has been a fantastic learning experience.

Mike---Used your technique for the IP on my Bf109E and it worked like a charm.  Toast

Steve- Gorgeous build, now get to work on another one! Toast

Guy- Nice work on the paint, for a minute I thought your tape on the fuselage was a yellow fuselage band.  I'm doing a JG 3 Sturmbock too, Jerry Crandall suggests that the cowl and spinner had an ever so slight blue tint to the the black, especially when it faded.  His recommendation is add 10% RLM 24 to the black for these areas.

Nomad- Great work on the engine, looks really nice

Thanks for all the comments guys, its much appreciated. I do have a Tamiya D-9 of JV-44 in the stash and there is just something about the red and white stripes on the underside that calles to me. Plus I have so much fun on this GB so might as well build another.

Keep up the great work guys, you guys are producing some fantastic work here

OK, hit my first speed bump on this one, should have dry fitted the fuselage with the cowl on.  Here's the problem, the fuselage extension at the shoulder of the wing root does not mate up well at all with the cowl:

Some shim on the bottom of the forward fuselage would have been required to get everything to line up.  I've been using putty and Mr. Surfacer to build it up but I don't think I'll be able to completely alleviate the problem, hopefully it won't stand out too much once the paint is on.

Damon- Very nice indeed, you are making that Dragon kit look easy!  As far as that screen is concerned,I wonder if the radiator screen from a Dora would work?  Anyone know?

Steve- WELL DONE, stunning build there!  Love the camo, expertly done.  Only thing I see is the ailerons are both down, did they droop are are they glued that way?

Do you want me to add the Tamiya FW-190D-9 kit to the roster for you?

Mike- Bummer about the cowl fit, seems to be a problem with nearly all of the FW-190 kits I have come across.  Sure would be nice if the kit makers could get that sorted out one of these days.

Steve- Amazing Fw-190, hope mine will look half that good.

Arki30- Long time no talk. Great progress! If I ever see one of Fw-190s I am going to check the engine.

Luft- Your pretty fast.

Sorry I haven't been here lately,I have only posted one WIP pic of my build, but I will post some more tonight. I found out that being 16 and having a drivers license-- I am anywhere but on the workbench. I see that all modellers forget about modelling at age 18. I promise I will not forget about modelling! I am still following my goal of two a month.

Also, I will try to be here more! Well thats enough rambling, I better go take some pics!

Steve, well done.  Paint work turned out gorgeous.  By the way, you broke off an aileron, not a flap.  Smile  Flaps are something else entirely, typically inboard of the ailerons, dropped down into the airstream from the bottom or rear of the airfoil to effectively change the shape of the airfoil to increase lift at slow speed situations such as landing or takeoff.

As you mentioned this will give you an opportunity to reset the aileron.  In aircraft with typical mechanical linkages, the ailerons move opposite each other as the control wheel or stick is moved in order to bank the wing.  With odd shaped aircraft or newer jet aircraft with hydraulic controls or move-by-wire systems, it can get more complicated. Excellent work everyone!!!!! Seeing everyone's stunning work keeps me going I must admit!!!!! Got a lil bit done on the forward end of my lil tike, Tank???Tongue Tied Hehe. Got the prop painted nose ring Yellow, and fan satin black with the grooves for an engine behind fan met gray and washed. Pics soon, going to paint prop hub and the spinner next and then show an(hate using this term for an airplane) exploded view then all together.

Raptor, I know what you mean when you get your license, you just want to drive anywhere and everywhere no matter the distance. I'm still partial to the freedom of a long drive and good tunes, especially when the LHS is at the other end!!!!!!!!!!ToastBig Smile As far as telling you if we find anything we pick up on your photos to let you know about???? Well, I really hate digging out the mag lens.......Wink You are doing GREAT mate!!!! Keep it up!!!!

Ooooo that is going to be a stunning mount Bill!!!!

Have been at the bench a bit over the weekend at got a lil painting done and the gun cover forward of the windscreen thingy glued down.(still need to refine that fit). Here are a few pics of the nose ring works and accompanying fan that keeps the pilot cool, turn it off and watch him sweat.(sorry old joke).Propeller

painted the spinner gloss so I can put the swirly decal on, Frank can attest I have done crazier things in 1/72!WhistlingWink if it don't work there is always paint!

Raptordriver, Richie -- great stuff going on here!

WIP on my big Hasegawa, I've been working on the vbusiness end of the bird. Here are the powerpack components with the exception of the prop blades and spinner:

The fan is sprayed satin black acrylic, the engine is brush painted mixed dark metallic enamel, drybrushed with silver and washed with Promodeller Dark Dirt. The pushrods are brush painted black enamel with dark metallic ends. The magneto housing is sprayed neutral gray in a mixed acrylic shade, drybrished with silver enamel then oil wash weathered with black. The spinner base has the edge brushed with satin black acrylic.

Here's a closeup on the forward housing:

And the assembled engine, with the rest of the current 190 fleet in progress beyond:

Hopefully, behind the fan and prop, that lot will look perfectly acceptable.

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Krow- Nice work, should be quite an impressive build when she's complete.

Andrew- I didn't notice any problems, really looking good, I love that scheme!

Mike- You don't have to worry, once you get it inside the cowl it will be 75% hidden, once the fan's on about 90% hidden.  Did you see my post on the previous page about getting the cowl and fuselage to mate up correctly? Really pay close attention or you may get bit like me.

Damon, sorry i dint comment earlier but the TA is looking great. Sorry to hear its been a pain but it sure looks like your beating it into submission.

Mike, I hear what your saying about the blue but id really like to ask how Jerry Crandall gets his information considering almost all the colour plates are deduced from black and white pics LOL. If anything i would have guessed that the black would go greyish or even wear through to the undercolour. Either way its a little too late Whistling LOL. Your build is looking great btw and if anyone can beat5 the niggles into shape, its you my friend.

Frank, all coloured and stickered buddy. Just wethering at the momento,
