Yeah Randy he's having fun with it...Because he is only 10 and the kit is an old Airfix Stuka i've been cleaning up the parts with the blade and mixing his paints for the airbrush to avoid blood and paint all over the place but i have to say for a 10year old he has a nice touch with the airbrush and his gluing is also very good...at his age i had glue everywhere on the models i did....i suppose he has me looking over his shoulder telling him do's and don'ts so he won't be making the mistakes i made as a kid...
Julez not to worry man, hey I would think the Stuka would take priority over any other builds you have going as it should. I have been dragging my feet on the F-15 build between not feeling to well and the cold wet weather we are having well ..........................
Randy So many to build.......So little time
Firesmacker, awesome work mate the Jug looks greatstill have to get around to doing one of those myself....
Stik, love your work man, the different panel shades and decals really set it off...very well done
Vette, not much to report on the B-29 i'm afraid, my 10 year old boy is building an airfix stuka and taking much of my time, that combined with my current 190 builds are eating away at my bench time...
Gamera the Streak Eagle is coming, I have all of the clean up done and stuff like that, I have been waiting on some paint I ordered. That will be here tomorrow so there should be some WIP pics soon. This is going to be one challenging paint job that I am looking forward to tackling Just hope I can pull it off.
Firesmacker: Wow, nothing better than a big beautiful jug man and you nailed this one! Great job!!!
SP: Already commented on your F-84 over on your Korean War GB but thanks for the extra detail on your NM finish here.
Vetteman: Am so looking forward to seeing that Streaking Eagle come along.

It was basically the same process as doing paint for a multicolor hard edge camo scheme. Since I knew this was gonna be a NMF bird I used two additional fine grits of sanding sticks on clean up to polish up all seams. Next I put down a base coat of Humbrol Flat Aluminum over the whole kit. Once that had dried for a day or two I used Tamiya masking tape to isolate the areas I was gonna paint in Tamiya Aluminum. After that dried, masking tape removed. Then I did a final masking around all control surfaces: Ailerons, Flaps, Rudder, and Elevators, then painted those with little bottle Testors Aluminum. I think all basic painting was done in 3 or 4 days. Then it was a coat of Future, Decals, the delays I encountered on that, another coat of Future to seal the decals, wash, and a top coat of Humbrol Flat Clear.
But now I know for my next Thunderjet, I need an enamel gloss coat before the decals to work with the Solvaset on Cutting Edge decals. Solvaset DOES NOT LIKE FUTURE.

Stikpusher The front page was updated last night with corrections made this evening.
Now you are telling us you used Tamiya Aluminum paint along with Testers version ?? How on earth did you get such a nice NMF finish ? I have never used the Humbrol paints so cant say anything about them but man how did you do that ??
Thanks Vetteman. I actually used regular paints- the darker dull shade is Humbrol Aluminum, the brighter areas on the wings, stabilizers and fuselage are Tamiya Aluminum, and all control surfaces are Testors little bottle Aluminum. Future was put down before and after the decals and top coat of Humbrol Flat Clear. Any flaws in the finish are between Future and the decal solutions (Micro Set, MicroSol,and Solvaset) and Pro Modeler Wash.
The Kit is Revell 1/48 F-84E with Cutting Edge decals for a MiG Killer of the 27th Fighter Escort Wing in 1951.
Stikpusher WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this one was very much worth waiting for man. If you were to photograph your F-84 against an airport background one would swear it is the real thing. You have nailed the shading and weathering, the markings do look to be painted on too. Very nicely done.
Let me get the info on your build and I will get it posted to the front page. You did use Alclad paints ?
Stik a fork in this Thunderjet, I am calling her DONE!!! I gotta admit this one has really been a jewel to behold when done. I really love all the detail put on this model... I mean they included just about everything! Separate clear landing lights, wingtip lights, navigation lights, beacons... It was a long haul, but the finished kit is worth every second. Any flaws you may notice in the finish are all post decal work. The Pro Modeler Wash left some staining in the Future and the Decals. And of course some newly discovered (for me) Solvaset vs Future issues. Neither of which I could not figure out how to get rid of it. Enjoy!
Now I really have a hankerin' to tackle a Saber...
All I can tell you Firesmacker is after seeing the finished model I took me out to the mancave and gave me a proper beating Thank you for not taking offence Sir.
Thanks, Randy. When you said that it looked a little too symmetrical I kinda scratched my head since I picked out different panels on purpose. Oh well, it's always good to have a second pair of eyeballs regardless.
Firesmacker yes indeed ! A very nice Thunderbolt you have built Those markings really bring out the panel shading and it looks great. Such a nice smooth finish you have achieved. If you please, forgive my earlier comment about the shading looking a bit symmetrical had no idea what you had in mind and didn't know what I was talking about. Footinmouth syndrome. Well done Sir.
Yeah I just dont know how you could deny that sweet little face anything she wants, I bet her smile melts your heart huh.
Anyway Jeff your build is posted on the front page right where it should be. Thank you for joining the group and yes I will be looking forward to seeing more from you in NMF III
I'm calling this one done:
Now I just need to convince this kid that she can't play with it even though it is "hers":
This was a pretty fun build and I am definatly down for another NMF group build
Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Jeff
Julez thanks for the title I will search Amazon for it. Is it the one with the F-15 or is it on the Streak Eagle. I saw the YouTube video a while back, that Eagle really hauls the freight doesnt it ? Zero to 30 thousand feet in less than a minute, I bet those drivers had a blast doing that.
Richard, it's good to see your smiling green face
Randy the dvd is a discovery channel one called great planes, i picked it up for $10:00.....check this out..

Oh yeah the 29 is gettin some paint on it's interior tonight
Kermit !!! hows my little green buddy doin ? Thanks for the info on the DVD I didnt know that but it figures MS would do something like that. I am hoping I can find the dvd on amazon or someplace like that in my region format.
... I dont know if a region 4 DVD would play on my computer...
Randy,
A friend of mine once gave me a couple of (U.S.) DVD's as a christmass present not knowing about dvd regions. The US is region 1, europe (me) is region 2.
The dvd did play on my computer but you get a popup screen warning you that you can switch your player's region only three times, after which the dvd player will remain in the last chosen setting.
You can watch a region 4 dvd on your computer but you will have to find a way to simultaneously rip or record it to your own region.... Sorry to break it to ya...
Richard

Julez wow what a huge offer man. I dont know if a region 4 DVD would play on my computer, maybe I could find it on Amazon. Whats the name of the DVD ? I did try ordering the instruction sheet from Revell so will see what happens with that. I wish Hasegawa had their plan sheets online, they put out a 1/72 kit if I recall right as their color charts are much better.
Ohhhhh I hear rumor the B-29 factory will be in full swing this weekend
Randy, i have a DVD that shows the streak eagle in detail, on the ground and in the air...Say the word and you will have it in a week....BTW it's a region 4 DVD so it may only work in you computer......
Stik, looking very close to finished buddy
Jmart, nice work on the exhausts, looking forward to seeing another mustang come together
Jmart had the same trouble with my Revell P-51Ds and handled it the same way you are, was a PITA though, because upon installation they still tend to want to roll around a bit. I have to thank you again for the picture of the real exhaust stacks on the Mustang I no longer take all the mold lines off of the WWII builds. I just tone them down a bit now. Seems the post WWII Mustangs use seamless tubing for the stacks. I welcome you back to the group and the bench sir.
Stikpusher she has LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey your F-84 is looking great man, I love the shading differences in the panels. I know I have told you that before, and the markings add hugely to the NMF. Cant wait to see her all finished up. If I remember correctly this build was a carry over from round 1 right ?
I started dry fitting the Streak Eagle today and have to run to the LHS and pick up some paint for the pit. I am at a loss for the Revell call out for Green Gray Metallic for the rear portion of the cockpit. Anyone have any ideas about it I cant even really find the color in pictures of the real thing. A picture of the box art I found an old Monogram F-15A so wont be modifying Revell F-15E as I originally posted.
The dry fitting. Looks to be some work to be done on this one, lots of gaps and some sink marks as well.
stikpusher Jmart, those nubs on the exhaust look like a very easy fix with an Xacto and needle file to clean up. Are you planning on drilling out the stacks?

Yep, actually, last thing I did last year before putting the build on hold!
I already cut/sanded the knob off. I also used some pastels on the interior instead of a wash.. not convinced, so may redo and post for opinions.
Sweet looking NMF at your end! I love those "old" jets.
Almost there. Today was final top coat, paint the main canopy frame, and attach drop tanks, landing gear, speed brake, etc. I just have a few more tiny clear parts to attach, some detail painting on a few small fiddly bits, and final canopy framing painting to do. Looks like tomorrow is the day.
Sorry that these are not quite focused properly.
Casper – really nice job on the Mirage; great finish.
Stik – Looking good; I like the effect of the wash. I have a couple bottles of that ProModeller’s wash, will give them a go on my current builds.
I started where I left off… the IP, pit, exhausts… realized that the Revell P-51D exhaust parts have couple “wedges” (for lack of a better term) that helps keep them in place (see arrows). Problem is, exhausts don’t have those “placers” and the fit is too high, exhausts should be midline of the opening with a slight downward tilt (I think….). Anyways, had to cut off the knobs and sculpt/shave the backing a bit for the exhausts to fit properly.
hope to get more work done before the weekend.
Yeah I definately wanna see that Streak Eagle!
Casper very cool looking Mirage Well done buddy, great work
Stik, yes sir that has been a long time coming....Looking very nice the NMF and decals look sweet
Randy, good to hear the Streak Eagle has unofficially started whats your plan regarding the different shades of NMF on that one? some if it looks almost coppery in colour...
vetteman42. Stikpusher looking great and you are so close to finishing this one hurry up man this build has been a long time coming. Cant wait.

Tomorrow should see near completion or completion...
Casper the Mirage came out beautifully, love the tiger stripes and markings Lots of nice work went into your model, the cockpit really looks good. I think due to the rework you did and all the added detail. AWESOME! Your build is proudly displayed on the front page.
The Streak Eagle has started, just clean up and such for now. I will have pictures to post soon, midweek I hope. Yeah Julez I know it aint official yet just thought an unofficial announcement would be nice.
Casper, your Mirage turned out beautiful! I do love the lines of the 2000! The heritage shows, but in a modern more more muscular look.
Yesterday I was able to apply some promodeler dark dirt wash in all the rescessed lines. Once removed it gave a nice suttle effect.
