Got the pit slotted in next to the gun bay

I noticed a few pages back or in another build someone referred to the Tamiya kits as "shake'n'bake". Couldn't agree more, these kits just put them selves together!

I've got the gun bay done and almost finished the office. It has taken a while, I punched out all of the instrument dials from the decal sheet and applied them separately. Also it will be possible when completed to get a hint of space behind the instrument panel so I have decided to wire these up for some extra detail.

Next comes some weathering just to highlight the details in the cockpit and guns.

Julez & Gamera thanks gentleman for the kind words. This kit is testing me well, I will have pictures showing the latest challenge tomorrow, a 1/16 step between the nose piece and the fuse joint.

Julez I am totally ecstatic over the completions in this group, and they are all works of art too loads of talent here I must say. I was thinking I just may have to use the second page  as I am not sure how much each page will hold.

Tayler I have seen those markings on a NMF build and all I can tell you is that you made a very good choice my friend. Cant wait to see them on your P-51

  I wish I had made the seat belts out of tape. Oh well, live and learn. This is only the second aircraft I have ever built. In fact, this is the second model I have ever built. That is why I am using the P-47 as practice for the C-119 'Boxcar'. My father earned his 'jump wings' on a C-119. So, for his birthday I want to present him a model of the 'Boxcar'.

  Anyway, all suited up for spraying Alclad onto the engine.

My current project is a Tamiya 1/72 P-47. It will be finished in NMF and will be totally stock...including the decal seat belts. The P-47 is practice for another build. The second build will be of a Italeri 1/72 C-119C Flying Boxcar in NMF. I am hoping to include that one, also. But not sure if I can complete the 119 in time.

  The cockpit has been assembled and painted with Tamiya Flat Green. Highlights have been done and most of the wash has been completed, except for the seat belts. So, I am working on how to tone down the seat belts. Then I will spray some matt to tie it all together. Tamiya makes a nice cockpit  with more detail than I have seen in some larger scales.

  Part of the tail section has cured and will be sanded. The curve of the part made for some creative clamping. Here are some pics of my progress.

Posting from Flickr is totally possible...I usually use PB because 1) the posting workflow is way easier and 2) my family doesn't get all up in arms about all the model photos getting in the way of kid photos.

AlterEcho yes post work in progress pictures by clicking the reply button as you have been doing. A little narrative of what you did helps too. Do you have an account set up with photobucket or a similar site to host your pictures ?

I am building the Tamiya 1/72 P-47, kit number 60770. No aftermarket, all stock...even the decal seatbelts.

Do I just start posting pics of my progress as a new message?

Hey I am working on my second painted NMF here are some WIP pictures but first the box art and sprue shots.

Got the fuse together but it took a bit of pushing pulling and creative clamping to keep the joints as clean as possible

I used the Aries Escapac ejection seat, didnt want to try scratching one. It was a tight fit in the tub but a bit of careful sanding fixed that. And as you can see there is a huge gap where the HUD should be, however that was removed in the Streak Eagle to save weight. The noise cone is going to have to be glued in sections to keep the seams as clean as possible. As for the metallic gray green I mixed Tamiya green and Metallic gray with a bit of dark gray added to darken it a bit more. Anyway it was a best guess from the pictures I have. I don't think much of it will show once the canopy is on so I don't know why I was so worried about matching the color.

I hope to get more pictures up on Sunday but we will see how things work out.

Ok, my last build for this GB. While I'm awaiting all my AM for my Bf 109 for the Weathering GB I picked up this from my LHS. Quality is terrific! Nice panel lines and rivets on the fuselage, great cockpit detail, gun bays, wheel bays. Also going to try some tricks to get nice subtle aluminum definitions in different shades. I'm also going to try Alclad for this build.

These mid range 1/48 Tamiya kits are really something.

Julez looks like your son is doing a fine job of it from the picture you posted, and, AND I can tell you aint a proud Daddy either . Please do let us know when its finished and post a pic or two.

Got a bunch of work done on the pit for the F-15 the last few days and will have pictures tomorrow sometime.

Shame the Future/Solvaset issues… I use both, but did not have an issue. I usually let the Future dry for days after application, more a function of time between modeling sessions than anything, but that extra dry time seems to make a difference in not making Future misbehave with other solvents (Solvaset, odorless turnpentine, acrylic washes, etc).

Randy, yeah buddy i know what you mean, it gives me a a lot of pleasure to watch my boy building his model knowing that he will probably make them(on and off) for the rest of his life...After his Stuka he's told me he wants to do a mustang in RAAF markings and i just happen to have a couple in the stash so i may let him join the NMF GBIII with that one....

Sorry I havent been around guys, been a bit under the weather but feel better now.

Julez those barrels look great man, are they PE or machined like they look from here. I hope you will post a pic or two of your sons Stuka. To my eye there is nothing better in modeling than seeing a young ones work.

I have a 3 year old nephew that likes to build the Testors fast build kits, we did a P-51D last spring ( his first one) and just last week he finally broke it. He brought it to me and stated "Uncle Randy I broke my fan" then his eyes watered up, poor little guy. So I will be taking me to Michaels for another for him. He also has a Sherman tank and a C-130 he treasures.  I hope soon he will be ready for the snap-tight models.

As far as the Streak Eagle goes, I got the fuse glued together yesterday. Started back on the pit and discovered that the IP was missing, personally me thinks the cat walked off with it. Anyway I stole another from a kit on the shelf, cut out the HUD and got it ready for painting. Got the metalic gray green  mixed ( best guess for the tone ) and painted and will pick out details today by dry brushing. I also have an AM ejection seat ( I dont like working with resin but have to in this case) that is washed and ready for PE to be added then paint. I also ordered more Talon aluminum paint so I will have plenty to play with mixing the colors. I think the chem-film color will be the toughest to match.

Ahhh forgot to mention that i've ordered a dozen of these Aber barrels in preferance to the Karaya ones i was going to use....
