Well I finally got a chance to break into my Banshee! The cockpit is a little bare as far as detail. I started with this area as the rest of the kit is pretty good. Here are some pics. For those of you out there that my have references I need some help with the interior color for my H-19.....Italeri shows it as "pale green." I was wondering if it isn't interior green instead. Any help is appreciated.

Added "tape" seatbelts with wire buckles (first time attempting this). The ejection handle was a guess from some pics I have seen. I made it from stretched sprue.

A closer inspection of the pic I posted does seem to show a slightly different landing gear arrangement to the one Mach 2 offer with their PBM Mariner , it looks similar to what you would see on the PBY Cataliner flying boats ; Here is a link to the Mach 2 kit ...

Squadron.com had the Martin PBM Mariner in action book and the Air War over korea book , so I have ordered both those to supplement by ever growing stash of Korean War bird kits , hopfully the Mariner book should provide some additional info on the different landing gear set up .

Your very interesting picture has a PBM-5A (amphibian), which, like a PBY-5A, has self contained retractable landing gear. I personally prefer the true boat hull, like the kit.

I have that kit too. The one very obvious problem seems to be the clear canopy which is pretty bad, and there are no replacements available. But that's something one could live with for such an imposing craft.

As with the H-19 , I airbrushed the interior of my H-19 medium gray [Gunze H-317] and the other three parts around the rotor base Gunze H-58 interior green

Hello all.  I got some work done on the Corsair.  I finished up the office, and the engine, and then sealed up the fuselage.  I think I finished up the seam work on it too.  I was test fitting the wings together, and that is going to require some filling.  The stock engine was pretty bland, but some wiring, and a wash and I think it looks pretty decent.  If I build another one of these, I will definetely go with some aftermarket stuff.  There really isn't that much more detail than the old Monogram -4.  The fit is better though.

Gamera , thanks for posting the pic of the B-29 sprue , I suddenly realized I will have to constuct a new display cabinet for the B-29 , the wing span is quite big .

I've masked the bottom of the Airfix Sea Fury to give the wheel wells a few coats of silver , as well the landing gear doors and gear struts and rockets .

One of the wheel lugs was broken off the strut so I just cut a piece of 1.2mm rod and super glued on a replacement lug . Airfix call for Humbrol paints 90 Sky and 123 Extra Dark Sea Grey , I matched those to Gunze Sangyo H-31Whit Green and H-331Dark Sea Grey . I found a pilot and painted him up , I'll glue him into the cockpit later tonight and then the canop on .

I don't know about the price, Tower has it listed for $13.99 which is quite a bit more reasonable, although still higher than some more recently tooled kits. Unfortunately it doesn't include any Korean war markings, (Blue Angels & a mid 50s USMC aircraft) although it shouldn't be that hard to whip something up.

I was also curious about the color of the pilots uniform in the Korean War , I found an article in my aircraft magazines on the F-84 Thunderjet in Korea , there is two pic's of USAF pilots , one seems to be wearing a light khaki flying suit , the other pic show's a dark olive drab suit ?

Is the different color because of the different seasons...Summer/Winter ???

I don't know about USAF flight suits but I picked up the Squadron F9F book, and one photo shows a pilot in a dark colored flight suit climbing into his F9F. The caption says it is a winter fight suit, a rubberized coverall over long underwear, worn to provide some protection from cold water if the pilot had to bail out into the ocean. It also mentioned the summer flight suit was khaki.

I was searching around google for Korean War aircraft and came across a web site on the PB-1W Flying Fortress ...http://vw1assoc.tripod.com/pb-1w_days_2.html

I have an old Hasegawa B-17G Flying Fortress which I have re-built at least four times ; My last attempt was to delete the nose and belly turrets and filled in with plastic sheet and also the roof turret . I also have one of those Vacuform APS-20 belly radar radome which is designed to fit onto an AD-5W Skyraider .

From what I read on the net , I'm pretty sure that the PB-1W used the same type of radar , so I was wondering about using it on the B-17 re-build

I'm not quite sure where the actual position on the belly the radome shoud fit ???

 I saw that RVHP have a conversion for PB-1W roof Radome which I think looks really different than the belly option , but it's priced at $44.00 , I wonder how I could modify my vacuform radome to fit on the roof instead ?

PB1W?  Wow, you learn something new every day.  That is cool.  That is one of the reasons I like group builds.  You learn a lot about the subject not just modeling.

I haven't accomplished much.  Today I've been working on a Revell Roush Mustang for a GB at modelcarsmag.  It is made with hideous red plastic.  Makes me miss my grey plastic corsair!  I hope everybody has a great weekend.

well Ive been away a bit....still looking for a MIG-15 kit...meanwhile I've been keeping the elves busy on Tamiya'a F4U-1D...been a slow build,,,,been busy at work....anyway..got the pit done and the engine....the engine really tried my patience with the wiring....still looks like it will turn over,...Im ok with it..not my best but Im happy....

I was looking at my stash this evening and I noticed that I had two Academy B-17F's ...

Well I guess my curiosty got the better of me and I went and raided the coin jar and scrapped enough together to order this ;

As the box say's , the conversion set comes with both roof and belly radomes as well as decals for the korean War based aircraft .

I'll put the old Hasegawa bird aside for another time and build one of the Academy B-17 with the RVHP conversion set , starting from the begining with WIP pic's .

Another bird to the ever growing Korean War stash .

Helo,you are a one man Korean War GB all by yourself! The PB-1W should be very nice. I built that Academy Fort as a gift many years back. A great kit.

No work on my Centurion in the past week, But I did finish up another kit for a now passed GB, War In the Pacific.. The old Otaki/Arii F6F-3. I took it to the local IPMS last night and took first place in the advanced division. Now to have my Centurion to turn out so well...
